Abstract

This study aimed at developing a media, named a multilingual thematic picture dictionary to support the development of fourth grade elementary school students’ literacy. This study applied Design and Development research with Analysis, Design, Development, and Evaluation model proposed by Richey and Klein (2007). The subjects of the research were the fourth grade elementary school students who studied in rural and urban area. The data in this study were obtained from observation, interview, questionnaire, document analysis, content validity judgment, and quality judgment. The data obtained were collected by using four instruments, namely; observation sheet, interview guide, questionnaire, and expert judgment sheet. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that the multilingual thematic picture dictionary contents were relevant to the criteria of a good multilingual thematic picture dictionary and was categorized as an excellent category. Keywords: literacy, young learner, dictionary

Abstract

The uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted many sectors, including the education sector. Students, teachers, and institutions must be able to survive in conditions where distance learning is implemented. Blended Learning (BL) is one of the methods applied internationally during the pandemic. This study aims to investigate the advantages, challenges, and effectiveness of BL. The research method is a systematic literature review (SLR) with a qualitative descriptive research type. This research is a systematic literature review. Researchers explore various literature from various journals accredited by Scopus to Sinta. This study reveals various findings regarding its advantages, challenges, and effectiveness. The main results of this study are to show that this model offers high flexibility and effectiveness in the learning process. This study found that blended learning not only increases the accessibility of education but also encourages higher student engagement through the use of technology and interactive media. In addition, this model allows for personalization of learning, where students can learn according to their own pace and learning style. It also provides opportunities for teachers to develop more innovative and responsive learning strategies to change. This research implies that these findings encourage the development of a more flexible and adaptive curriculum that can optimally combine online and face-to-face learning.

Abstract

Tujuan utama dari artikel ini adalah untuk membahas temuan dari hasil kuesioner dan hasil observasi tentang efektivitas pelatihan penggunaan bahasa kelas (classroom language) yang dilaksanakan dalam rangka kegiatan P2M DIPA Undiksha tahun 2014. Pelatihan yang diberikan merupakan salah satu jenis pengembangan profesi dalam jabatan (in-service training) sebagai upaya meningkatkan profesionalisme guru-guru pengampu mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Kegiatan pelatihan diikuti oleh 25 guru pengampu mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris di SD di Kecamatan Sukasada. Hasil kuesioner membuktikan bahwa pelatihan yang diberikan secara keseluruhan dinilai oleh para guru memiliki tingkat efektivitas yang sangat baik, yaitu 87%. Hasil observasi kelas pasca pelatihan oleh tiga guru yang mengimplementasikan bahasa kelas juga membuktikan adanya peningkatan kemampuan mereka dalam menggunakan bahasa kelas jika dibandingkan dengan observasi awal pra-pelatihan. Ketiga guru terkategori baik dlam penggunaan bahasa kelas berdasarkan hasil observasi 2 pasca pelatihan (72%).

Abstract

The Independent Curriculum requires teachers to have the ability to use technology in the learning process and improve students' literacy skills. However, there are still many teachers who experience difficulties in using technology and increasing student literacy. For this reason, this study aims to identify the effect of multimodal training on increasing teacher readiness to implement technology-based literacy learning. This research is a mixed-method study with a concurrent triangulation design involving 24 English teachers. Methods of data collection through questionnaires, interviews and observation. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. This study found that teacher readiness in implementing technology-based literacy learning increased significantly after multimodal training. These results are supported by qualitative data showing that teachers feel better prepared to teach literacy in English. This study also found that teachers positively perceive multimodal training. It can be concluded that multimodal training positively affects teacher readiness in implementing technology-based English literacy learning. Thus, implementing multimodal training can be used as a solution to solve teacher problems in conducting the teaching and learning process using technology and increasing student literacy.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop an English for culinary book for eleventh-grade students at SMKS Pariwisata Triatma Jaya Singaraja. The type of this research is Research and Development using the ADDIE model by Branch (2009). This model is perceived to be more reasonable and complete during product development processes. There were 5 phases to carry out the study, including Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The subject of this study was eleventh-grade students majoring in culinary arts at SMKS Pariwisata Triatma Jaya Singaraja, Bali. The researcher in this study also applied the theory of layout principles, which helped the researcher designed the cover and each material on each page in the book to be better organized and attractive. The research instruments used were an interview guide, questionnaire, document analysis, and checklist. This study showed that the product developed was categorized as very good and valued by two expert judges in some aspects. The users valued the product positively, in this case, the eleventh-grade student majoring in culinary at SMKS Pariwisata Triatma Jaya.

Abstract

Akhir-akhir ini pemanfaatan media sosial di kalangan mahasiswa semakin menonjol. Sebagian besar studi tentang fenomena ini menyarankan agar wawasan yang diperbarui lebih lanjut diperlukan untuk mengumpulkan informasi penting. Berkaitan dengan hal tersebut, karena mahasiswa S1 Bahasa Inggris dikenal sebagai pengguna media sosial, maka perlu dilakukan kajian tentang bagaimana mereka memanfaatkan media sosial. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif yang menggambarkan persepsi, motivasi, dan sikap mahasiswa S1 Bahasa Inggris terhadap penggunaan media sosial. Melibatkan 186 peserta, penelitian ini menggunakan pertanyaan tertutup untuk mendapatkan informasi. Data dianalisis secara statistik dengan menggunakan konversi Interval. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) sebagian besar mahasiswa S1 Bahasa Inggris memiliki persepsi positif terhadap penggunaan media sosial dalam dua domain: kegunaan dan kemudahan yang dirasakan, (2) terdapat lima motivasi dalam menggunakan media sosial yaitu hiburan, utilitas pribadi, pencarian informasi, kenyamanan, dan altruisme, (3) siswa menunjukkan sikap positif terhadap penggunaan media sosial karena memungkinkan mereka berkomunikasi dengan profesor dan rekan-rekan mereka dengan sukses. Kesimpulannya, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media sosial memiliki peran dalam memengaruhi persepsi, motivasi, dan sikap mahasiswa S1 Bahasa Inggris terhadap proses belajar mereka.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of QuillBot on the writing skills and academic integrity of eleventh-grade students. This quantitative study addresses three main questions: 1) Is there any simultaneous significant effect of the use of the QuillBot on eleventh-grade students’ writing skills and academic integrity? 2) Is there any significant effect of the use of the QuillBot on eleventh-grade students’ writing skills? and 3) Is there any significant effect on the use of the QuillBot for eleventh-grade students’ academic integrity? Data were collected through writing tests and academic integrity questionnaire, with analysis conducted using MANOVA. The findings indicate that QuillBot significantly improves students’ writing skills by enhancing clarity, coherence, and accuracy. Furthermore, QuillBot influences academic integrity by promoting ethical writing practices, such as proper paraphrasing and plagiarism detection. The study concludes that is a valuable tool for improving both writing skills and maintaining academic integrity in educational settings when it is used responsibly and under supervision. Recommendations are provided for educators on integrating QuillBot into their teaching strategies to maximize its benefits while minimizing potential misuse.

Abstract

Project Based Learning (PBL) is highly important to be suited to the students needs as a guide in writing research proposals. The objectives of the study were to (1) describe the PBL design based on the students needs, (2) identify the problems encountered during the project writing, (3) describe the scaffolding utilized, and (4) analyze the effect of PBL implementation on the quality of students research proposal. The research used mixed methods in the form of a research and development design using the ADDIE model (which consists of steps of analyzing needs, designing the product of PBL, developing, and implementing it, and conducting evaluation). The participants were 20 respondents during the needs analysis, two lecturers, and three intact classes of 69 students during PBL implementation. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, a document study, and an experiment. A needs analysis was conducted using the Organizational Element Model (OEM), from which the PBL was developed. The data were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative analyses. The findings revealed that the PBL designed based on students needs has characteristics such as it is in the form of a framework and has systematic stages of teaching, being technology friendly, and being supported with various scaffoldings. The problems encountered concerned both grammar and content. The implementation of the PBL framework was found to have a significant effect on students research proposal writing in Research Method Course and develop their independence and learning autonomy.
