Abstract

Tuna Susila (WTS) women are women who sell themselves and perform sexual acts as a livelihood, in terms of religion and health, the actions of Tuna Susila (WTS) women violate the norms in living life. In overcoming their efforts, there needs to be a guidance for Women Tuna Susila (WTS) to change their mindset so that they leave acts that are not following the prevailing norms in life. They can find better jobs and develop the knowledge that is in themselves as well as the knowledge that has been given while in the institution and return to the right path. The theory used in this study is the social theory of phenomenology (phenomenology Sociology), which was put forward by Alfred Schutz, who states that human action becomes a social relationship if humans give meaning or meaning to their activities as something meaningful. This study uses qualitative methods with descriptive types to develop the problems to be studied. From the results of the study, it was concluded that the coaching process that was obtained by Women Tuna Susil (WTS) while in the Andam Dewi Solok orphanage, had made most of the Tuna Susil Women (WTS) leave their jobs as Tuna Susil (WTS) and could continue their lives towards better. Forms of guidance given to Women with Tuna Susil (WTS) at Andam Dewi Solok orphanage can be grouped into four of them: (a). Physical guidance aims to improve the physical and health conditions of Tuna Susila Women (WTS) to be able to absorb the guidance material delivered. (b). Thoughtful guidance, the aim is to guide and improve the mental or psychological of the client. (c). Community social guidance aims to lead to harmony and community life togetherness. (d). Skills guidance, the purpose of this skill is for those who are trained to gain knowledge and skills so they can open their own business from the skills they have.

Abstract

Abstract

This paper seeks to investigate the effectiveness of virtual laboratory in enhancing elementary school pupils’ scientific process skills and interests in the learning of science. A quantitative approach employing a quasi-experimental design was adopted including two groups of pupils i.e. a group that utilized virtual laboratories and a group that was taught using the traditional methods. The research instruments comprised of the science process skills pretests, which were administered prior to the intervention, and science process skills post tests, which were administered after the intervention together with questionnaires that measured students’ interest in the learning of science before and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed using percentage frequency, means and standard deviations, single factor ANOVA testing for homogeneity, independent t-tests and N-Gain to evaluate the level of effectiveness of the intervention. The findings highlight that the experimental group gained significantly more than the control group. The experimental group that employed the use of virtual laboratories had a higher mean posttest score of 0.67 indicating a high Ngain and thus higher science process skills acquisition. However the control group only showed a N-Gain of 0.20. Further, the analysis of the questionnaires showed an even greater gain in learning interest of members of the experimental group indicating that virtual laboratories enhance the acquisition of higher order skills through more active learning approaches. Research of this type suggests that technology-based media especially virtual laboratories can serve as an alternative for the improvement of student learning outcomes and interest in science education. Hence, the use of virtual laboratories can be seen as an innovative pedagogical approach that helps to increase target outcomes of 21st century education in science, in particular

Abstract

This study was conducted because there are still many fifth grade elementary school students who still have difficulty in understanding the contents of the reading, especially when asked to think critically or evaluatively. They have not been able to assess or give opinions about the reading properly. In addition, their reading ability is still low. The purpose of this study was to determine students' ability to understand reading evaluatively. This study used a case study method with a qualitative approach. The researcher involved five fifth grade elementary school students as research subjects. The data for this study were obtained through observation, evaluative reading comprehension ability tests, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that fifth grade students still have low evaluative reading comprehension abilities. Students have not been able to answer questions or complete exercises related to the contents of the reading correctly, have difficulty assessing ideas or ideas conveyed by the author based on their experience and knowledge, cannot state reasons for choosing certain ideas or ideas, and have not been able to compare the main ideas in the text with personal experiences properly. Several factors that cause this low ability are students' difficulty in maintaining concentration while reading, lack of interest and motivation in reading activities, and support provided by the family environment.

Abstract

Persuasive writing is a skill that students need to master in conveying ideas in a structured and convincing manner. However, initial observations showed that the majority of students had difficulty in developing ideas and constructing logical arguments in persuasive writing. Several factors caused this, 1) lack of student motivation in writing, 2) lack of variation in learning strategies, and 3) limited use of media and learning resources that are relevant to the world of students. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive research method, namely observation which aims to improve students' persuasive writing skills using a multiliteracy learning model that can improve students' understanding and knowledge. The subjects of the study were several fifth grade elementary school children. The results of the interim study showed that the application of a significant multiliteracy learning model can improve students' understanding and ability in writing persuasive texts as indicated by an increase in the average score of students' writing compared to the results of previous studies in persuasive writing.
