Abstract

Cellulose, a ubiquitous and renewable biopolymer, has garnered significant attention for its potential in material applications. This overview highlights the properties and applications of cellulose nanofibers, a nanoscale form of cellulose with exceptional properties. Cellulose nanofiber exhibits high surface area-to-volume ratios, inherent crystallinity, and favorable mechanical properties. They can be extracted from various sources using chemical and mechanical treatments, including alkali treatment, bleaching, acid hydrolysis, and ultrasonication. These processes effectively reduce cellulose fibers to the nanoscale, enhancing their properties. Cellulose nanofiber has demonstrated significant potential as reinforcing agents in biocomposites, improving interfacial adhesion, homogeneity, and mechanical strength. Their applications extend to diverse sectors, including biomedicine, packaging, and 3D printing. In biomedicine, Cellulose nanofiber show promise in tissue engineering, drug delivery, and wound healing due to their biocompatibility. Their lightweight yet strong nature and biodegradability make them ideal for sustainable packaging solutions. Moreover, cellulose nanofiber serves as effective reinforcing agents in composites, enhancing the mechanical properties of polymers for applications in automotive and aerospace industries.

Abstract

Early marriage in Indonesia has garnered attention from international forums, urging the eradication of this practice to safeguard children’s rights. Despite national regulations raising the minimum age of marriage to 19 for both males and females, this practice persists due to legal loopholes allowing marriage dispensations granted by the court. Utilizing a socio-legal approach, this article analyzes 14 verdicts from the Wonosari Religious Court in 2022. The authors find that religious judges employ juridical, theological, psychological, and sociological argumentations in approving marriage dispensations based on three reasons presented by applicants. Among these reasons, two are granted not based on ‘urgent reasons’ but rather on interpretations of Islamic law and prevailing social norms. In-depth interviews with four religious judges handling these cases reveal variations in interpreting ‘urgent reasons’ in the context of marriage dispensations. The authors argue that the interpretation of ‘urgent reasons’ should prioritize the best interests of the child rather than merely considering potential violations of religious and social norms. This study provides profound insights into the dynamics of legal interpretation in the marriage dispensation decision-making process.

Abstract

Environmental problems have occurred in the global scope, both developed and developing countries. Environmental problems are not only problems of developed countries or industrialized countries including Indonesia. Efforts to overcome environmental problems in developing countries have no other choice but to carry out development. Without the level of development, people will decline, and the environment will be increasingly damaged. Development must still be carried out without damaging the environment. This balance must be maintained in order to preserve the environment. Indonesia has been paying attention to environmental management since 1972. Settlement of environmental disputes through litigation does not produce many results. Dispute resolution through non-litigation channels assumes that dispute resolution through litigation results in very disappointing results. This study wants to conduct a study related to the implementation of Government Regulation No. 54 of 2000 concerning Service Providers for Environmental Dispute Resolution Services Outside the Court and find obstacles and solutions in resolving environmental disputes out of court. The implementation of Government Regulation No. 54 of 2000 at the central government level has established a service provider institution based on the Decree of the State Minister of the Environment Number 77 of 2003 concerning the Establishment of an Out-of-court Environmental Dispute Resolution Service Provider (LPJP2SLH) at the Ministry of the Environment, but its performance has not yet been felt. Abstract

The movement to boycott pro-Israel products as a form of condemnation of Israel's aggression against Palestine demands the attention of all elements of society, government and religious leaders in various countries, including in Indonesia. This qualitative study with a content analysis approach aims to identify the construction of mass communication functions in the fatwa of the Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) Number 83 of 2023 related to the boycott of pro-Israel products. The mass communication function theory constructed by Harold Lasswell became the foundation of the perspective. This study found the construction of mass communication functions in the MUI's fatwa literacy related to the boycott of pro-Israel products, including the function of environmental monitoring related to various events, such as Israeli aggression against Palestine which received financial assistance from various pro-Israel companies, and public questions from Muslims regarding the law of supporting the Palestinian cause. Then, the function of social correlation, such as the appeal for Muslims to do philanthropy for humanitarian solidarity for the struggle of the Palestinian people, and avoid using various pro-Israel products. Furthermore, the function of social transmission is in the form of MUI's role in disseminating Islamic legal norms that can guide Muslims in responding to the boycott movement of Israeli products. This study confirms the importance of constructing a holistic mass communication function involving the synergy of the roles of the community, religious leaders, and the government in disseminating fatwa literacy related to social religious problems, such as the fatwa related to the boycott of pro-Israel products. The focus, perspective and implications of the findings of this study are also novelty to the findings of previous studies which generally focus more on the formal legal aspects related to fatwas related to the boycott of pro-Israel products. However, this study does not examine the economic impact on Muslims in Indonesia of the MUI fatwa related to the boycott.
