Abstract

Capital structure is a complex financial decision because it is related to other financial decision variables. This study aims to determine what factors affect the capital structure of pharmaceutical companies listed on the IDX in 2016-2021. The population in this research is all pharmaceutical companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2016-to 2021. The sample was selected using the purposive sampling method and obtained a sample of 10 pharmaceutical companies. The data source is secondary data from the website (www.IDX.co.id). This study uses panel regression analysis. Company Growth, Tangibility, and Firm Size are three variables that have a significant effect on capital structure. Liquidity, NDTS and profitability had no effect on capital structure. As a result, this variable does not need to be used as a proxy for investment considerations, particularly in the pharmaceutical sector.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to study the dividend policy in the Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) in lights of its magnitudes, strategy and stability. The magnitudes will be measured using simple descriptive statistic over 11 years (1992 – 2002) for each sector therein. Meanwhile a dividend payment strategy in conjunction with company’s earnings will be measured using multinomial logistic model. Finally the stability will be measured using Lintner Model (1956), utilizing panel data techniques. The result shows that over the observation periods, sector that pays dividend most out of its earnings is Consumption Goods Industry. On the other hand, sector that pays dividend less out of its earnings is Property and Real Estate. On the strategy side, the result on multinomial logistic model shows that when there is an increase in earnings, decrease in earnings, and negative earnings, most of the firms in JSX will follow the strategy of increasing, decreasing, and omitting dividends, respectively. Finally, using panel data on Lintner Model, firms in JSX generally follow unstable dividend policy, meaning that when there is a change in earnings, it will be immediately followed by a change in dividend payment. This results confirmed previous studies which conclude that firms in developing countries tend to follow an unstable dividend policy, while those in a well developed countries choose a stable dividend policy.

Abstract

This research examines the determinant of bank risk with Bank Scale as the moderating variable. The determinants of bank risk in the study are Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Non-Performing Loan (NPL), Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR), Market Power (MP), Exchange Rate (ER), Interest Rate (IR), and Technology Investment (TI). Standard Deviation (STD) and Value at Risk (VaR) are proxies of bank risk. The bank scale is based on Bank Umum Kelompok Usaha (BUKU Bank). The unit of research analysis are conventional banks listed on the Stock Exchange of ASEAN-4 countries namely Indonesia Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand during the period of 2010 - 2019 with a total of 35 banks. Panel data regression is used to determine bank risk. The examination was conducted on banks in ASEAN-4 countries and Indonesia. The results found that banks in ASEAN-4 countries: CAR, MP, ER, IR, TI, and BB have significant negative effect on STD and LDR have significant negative effect on VaR, MP and TI have significant positive effect on VaR. For banks in Indonesia, ER positively affects STD, IR and IT negatively affect STD, NPL positively affects VaR, LDR and TI negatively affect VaR. BB has no effect on bank risk. The results of this study are expected to contribute in bank management to pay attention on bank-specific variables, especially technology investments and macroeconomic variables due to their enormous influence in increasing profitability and lowering risks.
