Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of netizens’ perceptions toward Jennifer Coppen’s personal branding on TikTok across various phases of her personal life that attracted public attention. The study aims to understand how public perception is formed, negotiated, and transformed through digital interactions within the algorithmic environment of social media. This research employed a qualitative method with a narrative analysis approach by analyzing netizens’ comments on Jennifer Coppen’s TikTok account from May 2023 to August 2025. The research data consisted of nine TikTok posts and 72 netizen comments selected purposively and categorized into criticism, hate comments, disappointment, empathy, appreciation, and support. Data analysis was conducted using Stuart Hall’s reception theory and Peter Montoya’s Eight Laws of Personal Branding concept. The findings indicate that netizens’ perceptions of Jennifer Coppen’s personal branding are dynamic and influenced by social values, emotional engagement, and the consistency of the image presented on social media. During the phase of pregnancy before marriage, netizens’ responses were dominated by criticism and moral judgment. In the phase of family life and mourning, public perception shifted toward empathy, support, and appreciation of Jennifer as a resilient mother figure. However, when Jennifer introduced a new partner, public perception once again generated criticism and disappointment because netizens associated the action with narratives she had previously conveyed. This study concludes that personal branding on TikTok is not entirely controlled by public figures, but is continuously negotiated through audience reception, emotional attachment, and collective narratives within the digital sphere.

Abstract

As a station dedicated to preserving local Javanese culture, Puspa FM faces challenges in expanding its audience and increasing advertising revenue within a competitive media landscape. This study examines Radio Puspa FM's strategic adaptation in Pacitan, Indonesia, amid digital transformation and cultural commodification. Using a qualitative approach and virtual ethnography, researchers interacted with the station as listeners, community members, and contributors. Seven informants were purposively selected based on their active involvement in Puspa FM's management, cultural programming, and online listener communities. We triangulated in-depth interviews, participant observation, and a focus group discussion as our data collection methods. The findings reveal that Puspa FM utilizes digital platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube to extend its reach and attract advertisers, while participatory engagement sustains its cultural authenticity. It also shows that the station reconfigures its content and business model to enhance engagement and sustainability while maintaining its cultural mission. The study implies that integrating digital innovation with participatory values can serve as a practical model for local cultural media seeking to balance tradition, audience engagement, and financial resilience in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how cultural representation in documentary videos plays a role in the destination branding strategy of Abafala Village, Timor-Leste. The study employed a qualitative method with a case study approach, focusing on the analysis of the documentary's visual narrative as the primary object. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with community leaders, observations of cultural practices, and analysis of the documentary's audiovisual content. The analysis was conducted thematically to identify elements of cultural representation and the construction of the destination image. The results show that the documentary serves as a representational medium that constructs destination identity through visualizations of landscapes, traditional architecture, and community cultural practices. This representation not only reflects social reality but also constructs symbolic meanings that strengthen the village's authentic image. Furthermore, distribution through social media broadens the reach of representation and encourages audience engagement as part of the destination image formation process. This study confirms that documentary videos function not merely as promotional media but as a communication mechanism that integrates narratives, symbols, and experiences in shaping cultural identity-based destination branding.

Abstract

Saringembat Village, Singgahan District, Tuban Regency, faces the challenge of high-calcium groundwater quality, which contributes to high stunting rates. To address this issue, the UPN "Veteran" East Java community service team developed a prototype for a semi-automatic, energy-efficient, and easy-to-operate plastic cup filling machine. The project, conducted in collaboration with the Mekar Sari Saringembat Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes), involved designing the machine, creating a logo and brand for the drinking water product, training in machine operation, and developing branding and marketing strategies. The results of the project include: (1) the availability of a low-power (180–250 Watt) cup filling machine prototype; (2) the registration of the drinking water logo and trademark design; (3) increased capacity of BUMDes human resources in operations, maintenance, and marketing; and (4) the establishment of a new village-based bottled water business unit. This program supports SDGs 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). Going forward, this innovation can be replicated in other areas facing similar challenges.

Abstract

Abstract

Film "fiksi." is one of the Indonesian films that convey a message about the importance of caring for family harmony. This qualitative research uses the John Fiske semiotic method, with a corpus on the behavior of the main character Mia (played by Ladya Cheryl) as herself. The method is suitable for examining texts, images, and symbols that have a cultural connection to particular social contexts. The theory of social reality construction and representation is useful for exploring interpretations of the symbols and signs displayed in the film. Scenes that become the corpus include Mia's speech, actions, and decisions in resolving problems and getting their goals. The analysis uses three levels, first the level of reality that examines: physical appearance, clothing, cosmetology, setting, gestures, the intonation of sounds, and facial expressions. Second, the level of representation that looks at the position of the camera, lighting, musical system, and editing. Third, the level of ideology that examines the values and ideologies implied through dialogue. Mia's various acts of violence, such as cheating, manipulating, beating, strangling, and killing, shows the liberation of her identity as a woman. Despite giving appreciation to the figure of the man she loved, the character Mia took action and carried out her decision as her own choice. The construction of women in Mia is a woman who has full authority over her body and mind. A woman who is the subject and sets her line of life. Keywords: Gender and Media; Liberation of Identity; Cultural Studies; Representation
