Abstract

Background: Drama texts translated into various languages are a form of communication across linguistic boundaries and a window that reveals the richness of diverse cultures. For actors, engaging in the performance of a multilingual script provides an incredible opportunity to explore the nuanced complexities of different cultures. Actors learn new words and soak up the soul of a culture that may be very different. Purpose: The main aim of this research is to (1) find out the extent to which language variations are used in translated drama scripts and (2) the extent to which language variations influence the way actors understand and portray characters. Design and methods: This research uses a content analysis method on intralingually translated drama texts sourced from the Matara Production archives. Results: The results of this research reveal (1) that three languages are used (English, Indonesian and Sundanese) and (2) that multiple languages are used to show narrative diversity, subtlety of relationships in roles and cultural context. The importance of using regional languages in specific cultural contexts becomes clear, as in the depiction of the local ghost, Kuntilanak, which adds another layer of cultural richness. It can be concluded; this research highlights the significance of the use of multiple languages in the expression and communication of actors. Multilingualism allows actors to convey characters with greater depth, creating an immediate bond with multilingual audiences. Language is not only a means of communication but also a key holder of cultural identity, bringing to life cultural aspects that are difficult to explain in words.

Abstract

In this 21st century, the incorporation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has become a prominent practice in various educational domains, including the learning of languages in the classroom. However, there are a small number of teachers who are not familiar with incorporating ICT in their classrooms due to numerous causes. By the given situation, this study aims to identify the disparities in students' engagement between English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms that utilize Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and those that do not. Additionally, it seeks to determine the predominant and higher forms of engagement in these two types of EFL classrooms. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied in this research. To obtain the data, the authors examined the level of student involvement during teaching and learning activities in two types of classrooms: those that employed ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and those that did not. Subsequently, the acquired data was scrutinized and categorized based on the parameters of students' involvement (behavioral, cognitive, and emotional). The results indicate that both classrooms are primarily characterized by students' behavioral involvement. The class that included ICT in its teaching and learning process experienced a 9.5% increase in students' cognitive engagement. The implication of this research is to encourage teachers to incorporate ICT in the classroom so that the students’ three engagement types can be achieved better proportionally.

Abstract

Psycholinguistic understanding helps teachers to detail teaching strategiesthat take into account how students process Arabic information, understandsentence structure, and overcome potential learning difficulties. Cognitivetheory emphasizes aspects of understanding, mental processes, and organizationin language acquisition. This view states that the stages of students' cognitivedevelopment influence their language development. In this research, theeffectiveness of the cognitive model in learning Arabic becomes a benchmark indetermining whether the teacher's role is fulfilled in applying psycholinguistic teststo students. So that the latest alternative for learning Arabic has emerged basedon its new understanding. In this research, the researcher limited it to languagestructure material or often referred to as nahwu (syntax). Because learning nahwuholds great urgency in developing Arabic language skills. This research uses aqualitative descriptive approach, as well as the use of metasynthesis techniques forSLR (systematic literature review) research. With the systematic literature reviewmethod, research will be carried out using systematic, explicit and reproduciblesteps to synthesize (identify, evaluate, interpret) a number of research works andideas that have been produced by researchers. The results of this research, in thecognitive aspect, researchers found that structural learning of Arabic (Nahwu) withthe TBL (Task Based Learning) and PBL (Problem Based Learning) models is a learning model that can provide significant learning results in improving students' cognitive abilities, because both This model provides stimulus to students. Thus making cognitive abilities develop efficiently and effectively. This makes PBL andTBL alternative options in learning Arabic which is based on psycholinguisticcognitive models

Abstract

Food literacy and food waste have not received special attention from both the Indonesian government and society. However, considering that the country produces the second largest food waste in the world, ranking 100th at literacy and a stunting prevalence rate of 24.4% in 2021, the introduction and education of students about this issue is very important and urgent. This study aims to determine the urgency, constraints, and strategies for food literacy and food waste for children at school. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection through the study of research literature and relevant information. The results of the study show that the introduction of food literacy and food waste has a high level of urgency considering the environmental impact and future sustainability of Indonesia. Another supporting factor is that Indonesia's 2030 green growth policy can be used as a driver and basis for policy. Then, there are three obstacles to the success of this effort, teacher capacity, culture, policies, and alignments. This research also describes strategies that can be used, literacy school programs, use of interactive educational media, and collaboration with social media influencers and public figures.

Abstract

This study investigates the speech acts and psychological dimensions of characters in Cantik Itu Luka by Eka Kurniawan through a psychopragmatic approach. Focusing on how speech acts reveal psychological states, the research examines expressions of trauma, inner conflict, social injustice, and emotional resilience in the novel. Utilizing a qualitative method with a case study design, the study selects significant dialogues and categorizes them into expressive, commissive, and representative acts to explore how language reflects the psychological experiences of each character. Results indicate that expressive speech acts unveil deep-seated emotions tied to past traumas, while commissive acts highlight social bonds and commitments, revealing the character’s coping strategies and emotional resilience. Through psychopragmatics, the analysis illustrates that language in literature serves not only as a communication tool but as a mirror to the characters' mental conditions, thereby enriching the narrative with complex psychological dimensions. This research contributes to literary and linguistic studies by demonstrating how language functions as an expression of inner life, opening pathways for future psychopragmatic explorations in literature.

Abstract

The phenomenon of food vloggers sharing their culinary experiences through videos presents an interesting area for sociopragmatic studies. This research focuses on understanding the social interactions and pragmatic contexts within food vlogging content. Specifically, the study aims to map the development of sociopragmatic research on the YouTube platform in relation to food vlogging. Using qualitative methods and bibliometric analysis, this study identifies and analyzes publications related to sociopragmatics and food vlogging from electronic databases such as Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Keywords such as "sociopragmatics," "food vlogging," and "YouTube" were used to gather relevant data. Bibliometric analysis was conducted using Publish or Perish and VOSviewer software, enabling the processing and visualization of data in this field. The findings indicate a growing interest in food vlogging as a research subject, although studies explicitly examining sociopragmatic aspects remain limited. These findings highlight opportunities for in-depth research on sociopragmatic aspects, such as the use of speech acts, politeness in language, vloggers' communication strategies, interactions between vloggers and viewers, the construction and negotiation of social identities in vlog content, and the reflection of cultural values and social norms in social media interactions, particularly on YouTube.
