Abstract

Food literacy and food waste have not received special attention from both the Indonesian government and society. However, considering that the country produces the second largest food waste in the world, ranking 100th at literacy and a stunting prevalence rate of 24.4% in 2021, the introduction and education of students about this issue is very important and urgent. This study aims to determine the urgency, constraints, and strategies for food literacy and food waste for children at school. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection through the study of research literature and relevant information. The results of the study show that the introduction of food literacy and food waste has a high level of urgency considering the environmental impact and future sustainability of Indonesia. Another supporting factor is that Indonesia's 2030 green growth policy can be used as a driver and basis for policy. Then, there are three obstacles to the success of this effort, teacher capacity, culture, policies, and alignments. This research also describes strategies that can be used, literacy school programs, use of interactive educational media, and collaboration with social media influencers and public figures.

Abstract

This study investigates the speech acts and psychological dimensions of characters in Cantik Itu Luka by Eka Kurniawan through a psychopragmatic approach. Focusing on how speech acts reveal psychological states, the research examines expressions of trauma, inner conflict, social injustice, and emotional resilience in the novel. Utilizing a qualitative method with a case study design, the study selects significant dialogues and categorizes them into expressive, commissive, and representative acts to explore how language reflects the psychological experiences of each character. Results indicate that expressive speech acts unveil deep-seated emotions tied to past traumas, while commissive acts highlight social bonds and commitments, revealing the character’s coping strategies and emotional resilience. Through psychopragmatics, the analysis illustrates that language in literature serves not only as a communication tool but as a mirror to the characters' mental conditions, thereby enriching the narrative with complex psychological dimensions. This research contributes to literary and linguistic studies by demonstrating how language functions as an expression of inner life, opening pathways for future psychopragmatic explorations in literature.

Abstract

The phenomenon of food vloggers sharing their culinary experiences through videos presents an interesting area for sociopragmatic studies. This research focuses on understanding the social interactions and pragmatic contexts within food vlogging content. Specifically, the study aims to map the development of sociopragmatic research on the YouTube platform in relation to food vlogging. Using qualitative methods and bibliometric analysis, this study identifies and analyzes publications related to sociopragmatics and food vlogging from electronic databases such as Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Keywords such as "sociopragmatics," "food vlogging," and "YouTube" were used to gather relevant data. Bibliometric analysis was conducted using Publish or Perish and VOSviewer software, enabling the processing and visualization of data in this field. The findings indicate a growing interest in food vlogging as a research subject, although studies explicitly examining sociopragmatic aspects remain limited. These findings highlight opportunities for in-depth research on sociopragmatic aspects, such as the use of speech acts, politeness in language, vloggers' communication strategies, interactions between vloggers and viewers, the construction and negotiation of social identities in vlog content, and the reflection of cultural values and social norms in social media interactions, particularly on YouTube.

Abstract

Purpose-This study was conducted to show that speech acts in WhatsApp conversations can be a factor in the emergence of Schadenfreude. This study aims to show what kind of speech acts significantly influence the emergence of Schadenfreude and describe the kinds of Schadenfreude that often occur from these speech acts.Methodology-The type of research that was conducted is qualitative research with a phenomenological design. Researchers apply MDAP (Manual Data Analysis Procedure) to analyze data sources to become data. MDAP, or Manual Data Analysis Procedure, is a qualitative research data analysis method that helps researchers analyze their research data.Findings-From the results, a picture of the Schadenfreude phenomenon is formed by perlocutionary speech acts. Any Schadenfreude in perlocutionary speech acts will be able to trigger responses from other students to join in making fun of what is being discussed. The most common types of Schadenfreude are compensation and Aggression. Compensation because they both feel the same difficulty at the same time. Aggression occurs because they are in the same group or want to try to be accepted by others, so they do the same thing: Schadenfreude.Signifinace-It can be seen that Schadenfreude is related to bullying. The factors that cause bullying are internal factors (mental and emotional health, such as high and low empathy, for example, Schadenfreude) and external factors (family, peers, school (one of which is the school climate, and the surrounding area). Keywords: Schadenfreude Speech acts WhatsApp groups Phenomenology MDAP (Manual Data Analysis Procedure)

Abstract

This ethnographic study investigates the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in creative pedagogy for Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL) at SD Tahfidz Al Basyir, Bogor. The research explores how AI tools, such as adaptive learning systems and ChatGPT, are employed alongside creative teaching methods to enhance language acquisition and foster creativity among children. Findings reveal that AI significantly contributes to personalized learning, increased student engagement, and the provision of immediate feedback, thereby improving the overall learning experience. However, the study identifies key challenges, including limited access to AI tools, inadequate infrastructure, and insufficient teacher training, which hinder effective AI integration. The research underscores the pivotal role of teachers in mediating AI use and recommends targeted professional development programs to equip educators with the necessary skills. This study not only enhances understanding of AI’s role in creative language pedagogy but also offers practical strategies to optimize AI-based teaching practices, particularly in resource-constrained settings, while addressing equity and accessibility issues.

Abstract

Fostering creative thinking skills is a crucial objective within 21st-century education. This research applied content analysis to several articles published in Indonesian Applied Linguistics journals between 2014 and 2024, focusing on creative thinking as the central theme. The findings indicate a notable increase in the number of publications emphasizing creative thinking over the past four years, with qualitative research being the predominant methodology. Undergraduate students were the most frequently studied population, and a variety of materials were utilized in the research spanning the last decade. Questionnaires were the most commonly employed data collection tool, while thematic analysis was the most frequently used method for data interpretation. Based on these findings, several recommendations are offered for future research on creative thinking skills, including expanding the range of research designs and employing more refined data analysis techniques.

Abstract

This study examines the speech development of SY, a 3.5-year-old child with speech delay, living in a bilingual environment with early exposure to screen time. Through a case study approach, data was collected via observations, interviews with SY's mother and therapist, and therapy records. Initially, SY displayed significant speech limitations, including omitting sounds, using incomplete words, and having a limited vocabulary. Factors such as frequent screen exposure and reduced direct interaction were identified as potential contributors to SY's speech delay. After six months of Speech-Language Therapy (SLT) led by an experienced therapist, SY has shown improvements in word completion, clearer articulation, vocabulary expansion, and social engagement. However, challenges remain in maintaining SY's focus during therapy sessions, a common issue for children his age. The study underscores the importance of early intervention, reduced screen time, and increased face-to-face communication in managing speech delays. Findings suggest that a structured therapy approach combined with supportive family interactions can effectively foster language development in young children, even in bilingual settings, reinforcing the role of active parental involvement in enhancing communication outcomes.
