Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model integrated with ethnophysics in enhancing students' scientific literacy on Newton’s Laws. The low level of scientific literacy among students underscores the need for a contextualized learning approach through the integration of local wisdom, specifically, the use of Becak Lawu as an instructional context. A quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design involved two eleventh-grade classes selected through purposive sampling. Class XI-2 as the experimental class with 35 students and class XI-5 as the control class with 36 students The research instruments consisted of a questionnaire on students' responses to the science literacy of Newton's Laws material. Data were analyzed using SPSS. The results indicate that the lesson implementation reached ≥88%, categorized as very good. The experimental group achieved an N-Gain of 0.53 (moderate), while the control group obtained 0.24 (low). Item number 1 is in the moderate category, and item number 3 is in the difficult category, and student responses to the learning model reached ≥86%, also categorized as very good. These findings suggest that the ethnophysics-based PBL model is effective in improving students’ scientific literacy.

Abstract

Project-based Inquiry Science (PjBI-Science) is one of the embodiments of innovative learning designed for students to have abilities like scientists and to experience various investigative methodologies, which include experimentation, modelling, simulation, and data analysis in the fields of earth science, life science, and physical sciences. Not only beneficial for students, but PjBI-Science also facilitates teachers to be able to design detailed learning processes and conduct assessments according to students' thinking skills and abilities, both individually and in groups. This study aims to identify the characteristics and find the benefits of implementing PjBI-Science learning. The research method used is a systematic review with a meta-aggregation method that summarizes the results of research related to PjBI-Science qualitatively. Based on the literature review results to identify the characteristics of the implementation of PjBi-Science, conclusions were obtained regarding the benefits of implementing learning. For students, it can improve the quality of abilities in the natural science field and accommodate the learning needs to optimize thinking skills, while for teachers, it can holistically provide alternative teaching styles in an innovative way and conduct an effective assessment of the activities and cognitive abilities of students.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of G-Sites-based learning media to improve students' critical thinking skills, particularly in understanding the physics topic of the electrical obstacle series. With the growing need for engaging and flexible digital learning solutions, this research addresses how interactive web-based media can enhance learning outcomes in science education. Method: The research employed a 3D development model consisting of Define, Design, and Develop. Learning needs were identified through student surveys, and the media was designed using G-Sites, which incorporated features such as videos, quizzes, and interactive simulations. The developed media was validated by experts and tested on 59 high school students in a limited classroom trial at SMAN 1 Ngimbang. Data were analyzed quantitatively using validity scores and gain scores from pre-and post-tests. Results: The validation results showed that the learning media was highly valid in terms of design, content, interactivity, and technical aspects, with scores exceeding 90%. Student learning outcomes improved significantly, as shown by increased post-test scores. Feedback indicated that students found the media engaging, accessible, and preferable compared to conventional methods. Novelty: This study introduces the innovative use of Google Sites as a free, accessible, and flexible platform for developing interactive physics learning media. Unlike many commercial platforms, G-Sites allows educators to independently create customized, multimedia-rich content tailored to their students' needs, representing a practical and scalable solution for digital learning in resource-constrained environments.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to describe the implementation of the guided inquiry learning model assisted by a 3D e-worksheet on global warming, analyze improvements in students' critical thinking skills after the learning, and determine students' responses to the learning. Method: The study used a pre-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test group without a control group. The subjects were grade X students of SMA Negeri 1 Kebomas in three classes (experimental class and two replica classes). The research instruments included observation sheets for learning implementation, critical thinking tests (pre-test and post-test) based on Ennis indicators, and student response questionnaires. Data were analyzed using normality and homogeneity tests, paired t-tests, N-Gain, ANOVA, Cohen's effect size, and descriptive analysis of responses. Results: Learning implementation was categorized as very good, with meeting percentages of 86.30%, 89.81%, and 90.74%. There was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (Sig. 0.000). The average N-Gain values in the three classes were 0.443, 0.554, and 0.396 (moderate category), indicating increased critical thinking skills. ANOVA results showed Sig. 0.000, meaning improvement varied across classes. Student responses were good, with average percentages above 70%, reflecting interest and new experiences in technology-based physics learning. Novelty: The novelty lies in integrating 3D e-worksheet, supported by PhET simulations, into a guided inquiry framework on global warming to train students' critical thinking skills, with consistency tested across three classes.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in improving the critical thinking skills of science education students in a biophysics course. The research employed a pre-experimental design using the One Shot Case Study method with posttest-only data. The participants were fourth-semester undergraduate students from the Science Education Study Program at the State University of Surabaya, who took the Biophysics course in the 2023/2024 academic year. The study was conducted in June 2023. Data analysis using the Shapiro-Wilk test showed a significance value of 0.086, indicating that the data were normally distributed. A one-sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.417, which supports the conclusion that PBL has a positive influence on students’ critical thinking skills. Overall, the implementation of PBL in biophysics lectures demonstrates its potential to enhance critical thinking among science education students.

Abstract

Implementation of the Independent Curriculum requires teachers to innovate and develop themselves through various independent teacher training and programs. The results can be shared by teachers through various platforms such as the Merdeka Mengajar Platform (PMM). However, various jobs in this era of rapid technological development are required to be completed quickly, teachers even must do multitasking work in order to carry out their professional duties optimally. As a result, teachers experience obstacles in producing scientific writing. This article has benefits 1) as a means of exchanging information and 2) as a tool to help document academic work. Through this activity, partners hope to increase their ability to produce good scientific writing so that they can contribute to knowledge for other teachers. Apart from that, scientific writing can also be used as an additional prerequisite for career advancement. This PKM activity provides solutions related to priority problems for partners. This PKM will train science teachers to write writing with design ideas assisted by artificial intelligence applications. The data sources used are data that can be obtained by teachers during class lessons or when teachers carry out assessments. From the implementation of PKM that has been carried out, science teachers have high enthusiasm when interacting with AI Chatbot-based applications such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Perplexity, and Connectedpapers. Teachers can draft scientific writing with the aim of exploring and describing their scientific writing ideas in written form. Participants gave positive responses regarding the implementation of PKM in Blitar City, namely 85% gave very good responses and the remaining 15% gave good responses.
