Abstract

The higher-order thinking ability of students in Indonesia is still in the low category. This research aims to see the effect of the application of a problem-based learning model on higher-order mathematical thinking skills in terms of student's initial abilities and mathematical beliefs. This research uses a quasi-experimental design with a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. Data on students' higher-order mathematical thinking skills were taken using a test instrument. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 27 Jakarta with a total of 165 students obtained from cluster random sampling. Based on the analysis of the three-way ANOVA test, it was found that the problem-based learning model had a positive effect on students' higher-order thinking skills. Problem-based learning model gives better results than conventional learning models. This also applies to students with the initial ability and mathematical beliefs in the high category. Problem-based learning can be an alternative for teachers to improve students' higher-order mathematical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of the Rasch Model for modern test evaluation using a custom Python prototype, validated against Winsteps software. Focusing on dichotomous exam data from a significant sample, the research estimates participant ability and item difficulty with high precision, achieving standard errors below 0.30. The model identifies misfitting items, such as Item I5 with an outfit mean square of 1.45, enhancing test design reliability. Item Characteristic Curves (ICC) and Item Information Functions (IIF) support the efficacy of Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT) across varying ability levels. Results demonstrate the prototype's consistency with Winsteps (correlation = 0.98), affirming its potential as a flexible tool for educational assessment. Limitations include the command-line interface and the need for larger datasets, suggesting future improvements in scalability and usability. This work advances modern testing practices, offering a foundation for adaptive and fair assessment systems.

Abstract

This study addresses the critical issue of insufficient spatial thinking abilities among students, which significantly affects their performance in higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) tasks, particularly in trigonometry. Focusing on 11th-grade students in Tanjungpinang, Indonesia, the research investigates how spatial thinking influences the ability to solve trigonometric comparison problems. Employing a mixed-method approach, the study integrates quantitative data from the Higher-Order Thinking Skills in Trigonometric Comparisons Assessment (HOTS-TCA) with qualitative insights from post-test interviews. Rasch Model Analysis evaluates the quality of an assessment instrument by providing measures of respondent abilities and item difficulties, fit statistics to ensure model alignment, reliability, and separation indices for consistency, a Wright Map for visualizing the relationship between skills and difficulties, and checks for unidimensionality and potential item bias to ensure fairness and validity. The Rasch analysis further confirms the reliability and validity of the HOTS-TCA instrument, highlighting its effectiveness in measuring spatial thinking across varying ability levels. The study finds that students with high spatial ability excel in visualizing geometric relationships but struggle with complex three-dimensional tasks. In contrast, medium-ability students have difficulties with mental manipulation and real-world applications, and low-ability students face significant challenges in basic visualization and interpreting geometric structures, leading to frequent misconceptions.

Abstract

In general, integral calculus courses are difficult for students because the problems involved require strong problem-solving skills. For university students, integral calculus courses also require them to do self-regulated, or independent, learning. Another aspect that makes learning difficult for these students is their mathematical beliefs and prior knowledge. This study aims to see how different types of mathematical beliefs affect self-regulated learning in terms of students' prior knowledge. This research was conducted on students in a mathematics education study program at a private university in Tangerang with a sample of 120 students. This research is an ex post facto quantitative study using a two factorial design. The variables in this study consisted of independent variables in the form of mathematical beliefs, the moderator variable in the form of students’ prior knowledge, and the dependent variable in the form of self-regulated learning. The results obtained are: (1) self-regulated learning by students with logical consistency mathematical beliefs is higher than students with memorized and procedural beliefs, (2) there is an interaction between mathematical beliefs and prior knowledge towards self-regulated learning, (3) student in the high prior knowledge gorup logical consistency beliefs had higher self-regulated learning than students with memorized and procedural beliefs, and (4) self-regulated learning in the low mathematics prior knowledge group with logical consistency beliefs is lower than students with memorized and procedural beliefs.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Mata kuliah kalkulus integral pada umumnya masih menjadi kesulitan bagi mahasiswa karena permasalahan yang terkandung membutuhkan pemecahan masalah yang kuat. Abstract

This study employs an empirical methodology to investigate the calculation of indices for determining the unit costs of equivalent education. This study compares the Construction Cost Index (CCI) and Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) in order to evaluate their relative effectiveness. A review of the existing literature on these indices reveals a need for more refined calculation and comparison methods. The study employs data from the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (CSA), including CCI and PPP figures from 2021 and allocations for School Operational Assistance (SOA) for non-formal education in 2022, to examine the relative significance of the CCI and PPP. The findings indicate that the CCI exerts a greater influence than the PPP. Furthermore, the application of a relative importance approach through multiple regression analysis reveals a robust positive correlation between the CCI and PPP, underscoring their intricate interrelationship.
