Abstract

This study investigates the pedagogical strategies employed by teachers in delivering local history lessons of West Kalimantan at SMK Negeri 3 Pontianak. The research is primarily motivated by the limited integration of local historical content within the national curriculum, particularly in vocational schools where the emphasis is often placed on practical skills. Utilizing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews and comprehensive document analysis involving both history teachers and students. The findings reveal that teachers effectively implement integrative and contextual strategies by linking national historical topics with relevant local content, such as the histories of the Pontianak and Sambas Sultanates. To enhance student engagement, a variety of media are utilized, including PowerPoint presentations, educational videos, and virtual tours to historical sites. However, teachers encounter several challenges, including limited time allocation, insufficient teaching materials, and a lack of adequate institutional support. Despite these constraints, teachers demonstrate remarkable creativity by developing their own materials and employing digital and problem-based learning (PBL) approaches. Consequently, students exhibit positive responses, showing increased motivation and a heightened awareness of their cultural identity. The novelty of this study lies in its illumination of how vocational education successfully integrates local history through innovative digital learning strategies, thereby significantly enhancing students’ historical understanding and fostering local character formation.

Abstract

This study examines the transformation of Monterado, Bengkayang Regency, from a gold mining center managed under the kongsi system to a Dutch colonial administrative region during the period 1850–1879. While previous research has touched on this aspect, there is a historiographical gap regarding an in-depth analysis of the drastic transition from a consensus-based governance system to a hierarchical colonial bureaucracy, and the impact of this transformation until the late 1870s. Using historiographical methods through economic, political, and sociological approaches, this study analyzes the dynamics of the collapse of the gold kongsi and its impact on the socio-economic structure of the community. The findings indicate that internal conflicts between kongsi due to the depletion of gold reserves, Dutch military intervention through the Kongsi War (1850–1854), and the formal dissolution policy in 1854 were the main factors behind the collapse of the kongsi system. The dissolution triggered a mass migration of approximately 4,000 refugees to Sarawak and thousands more to coastal areas of West Kalimantan. This transformation ended the democratic kongsi government that had existed since 1776 and replaced it with a hierarchical colonial bureaucracy, placing the assistant resident as the highest authority. The main contribution of this research is to fill the narrative gap regarding the process of social disintegration and demographic reorganization, and to explain the roots of the formation of a hybrid Chinese-Malay identity in the coastal region by tracing three waves of post-war migration. These fundamental changes not only reshaped the political landscape but also created economic decline and structural dependence on the colonial government with long-term consequences.

Abstract

The main problem faced by history teachers is that historical materials are often perceived as abstract and less engaging, and many teachers are not yet accustomed to using digital media such as Prezi effectively. This training aimed to equip teachers with the skills to design engaging history learning materials that align with the characteristics of digital native students through the use of Prezi. The activity was conducted at Universitas Tanjungpura and involved 15 senior high school history teachers in Pontianak City who are members of the History MGMP, as well as pre-service teachers. The core workshop was held on September 20, 2025, using a training–practice–mentoring model that integrated conceptual delivery, hands-on practice, and technical assistance. The results showed a significant positive impact, as participants improved their understanding of digital native learning behaviors and their technical skills in operating Prezi. Teachers were able to present history materials in a more dynamic and interactive manner, reflecting the integration of technological and pedagogical knowledge (TPACK). Participants’ questionnaire responses also indicated very positive perceptions of the usefulness and quality of the training.

Abstract

History learning in vocational high schools often suffers from low student engagement due to the traditional teaching methods. This study examined the effect of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model supported by interactive maps on Grade X students history learning outcomes at SMK Negeri 3 Pontianak. A quasi-experimental design was used, with an experimental class taught using PjBL and interactive maps and a control class taught conventionally. Data were collected through cognitive tests and psychomotor assessments and analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test dan effect size calculations. The results showed significant differences between classes (p < 0,000), with the experimental class achieving higher cognitive (89,18 vs. 71,63) and psychomotor scores (85,45 vs. 57,73). Effect size for cognitive (r = 0,78) and psychomotor outcomes (r = 0,855) indicate a strong influence. The novelty of this study lies in the combination of PjBL with interactive maps, supported by a relatively large sample size and rigorous analysis of both cognitive and psychomotor learning outcome.

Abstract

Kubu Raya Regency is the second-largest corn (Zea mays L) producer  of corn after Bengkayang Regency in West Kalimantan. Kubu Raya Regency has launched a food security and food barn program through the cultivation of corn kernels on a minimum of 1 hectare of corn kernels in each village. However, corn kernel production in Kubu Raya has not yet met the target. The average corn production in Kubu Raya is only around 29 quintals/hectare, while Bengkayang Regency can reach 39 quintals/hectare. This indicates indications of problems in agribusiness development such as the lack of implementation of Appropriate Technology (TTG). The purpose of this empowerment activity is through technological transformation and innovation provided by introducing and implementing science and technology in the form of Appropriate Technology (TTG) resulting from research and patents of the Implementation Team. This empowerment activity also supports the Food Security program of Kubu Raya Regency. The partner in this activity is the Rajawali Farmers Group which is engaged in plantations and horticultural crops. The main focus of the Rajawali Farmers Group is corn cultivation. The second partner in this activity is the Women's Farmers Group (KWT) "KPJ Aneka Rasa," which processes agricultural products such as cassava, bananas, sweet potatoes, and corn into various food products. This community service activity is conducted using a participatory approach, involving all partner members. This Community Service Program (PKM) activity resulted in several improvements for both partners in several aspects, including the use of TTG machines and tools, understanding post-harvest corn quality, digital marketing, and machine and production equipment maintenance. Overall, this community empowerment activity through technological transformation and innovation has met its established targets.
