Abstract

This study investigates whether the use of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and Cooperative learning STAD can improve argumentation skills in the thermochemistry chapter. The research sample is 72 grade 11 high school students. The research design was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest control group design. The results of the study: (1) there was no difference in initial ability between the PBL and CL STAD classes with a significance value of > 0.00; (2) there are differences in argumentation skills between PBL and CL STAD classes with a significance value <0.00; (3) the PBL model N-Gain test was 60.50% in the "quite effective" category and CL STAD was 41.97% in the "less effective" category. Therefore, the PBL model is more effective in improving students' argumentation skills.  Keywords: problem based learning, STAD learning model, argumentation skills, thermochemistry.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v24i1.pp298-308

Abstract

This literature review research aims to determine the instrument test in identifying representational competence in chemistry. The identified abilities involve how students can use, interpret, translate, and connect multiple representations to improve representation competence. The method used in this present study is SLR method by using meta-analysis approach by comparing information in some research literature study from 2011-2021 in the ERIC database, google scholar, and SINTA. Based on the results of research on 7 reviewed articles, it showed that several open-ended questions (57.14%) and multiple-choice instruments (57.14%) are the most widely used instruments to identify students' representational competence. The findings of the research show that there are several instruments that are combined with other instruments to strengthen the analytical method in obtaining data and completing the shortcomings of other instruments. In addition, there are several instruments made by aspects to measure how far the students' representational competence are. The information obtained from the use of the instrument can be used to determine the development of students' abilities in understanding chemistry using representations. Keywords: representational competence in chemistry, instrument test, literature review.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v23i3.pp1099-1111

Abstract

Currently in the 21st century, students are required to master various abilities and thinking skills. Students' abilities do not develop well with learning that only focuses on convergent thinking training. As a result, students have difficulty in developing and improving their ability to master the learning material. Therefore, it is necessary to have an appropriate learning model to improve students' abilities. Based on this, one of the alternative learning models that can improve students' abilities is the Inquiry Learning model. This article aims to provide an overview of the application of the Inquiry Learning model to the achievement of learning objectives in chemistry so that it can improve students' abilities. The method used is a systematic literature review from a literature review with relevant and reputable sources during the period 2017 to 2021. The results show that the inquiry learning model was able to improve students' ability to learn chemistry. Keywords: chemistry, critical thinking, inquiry learning model. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v23i2.pp681-691

Abstract

Character education has always been the focus of attention in the world of education in Indonesia. Creativity as an important form of character must really be measured with the right assessment instrument. Project Based Learning is a learning model that is able to explore the creativity of students. In this paper, a meta-review is conducted on the instruments for assessing student creativity in project-based learning on studies published in journals indexed by the Scopus database in 2011-2021. The results of this study show that the assessment of students' creativity in project-based learning by utilizing local wisdom has been widely carried out but has not found an assessment that focuses on all dimensions of creativity. In each PjBL syntax an assessment can be made, by adjusting the syntax to the creativity dimension which includes the dimensions of press, process, person, and product, but based on the results of the review there are no articles related to the implementation of PjBL based on local wisdom on the assessment of students' creativity, so the learning assessment only focuses on in the final condition does not include the learning process. Keywords: project based learning, creativity, systematic literature study. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v23i4.pp1504-1514

Abstract

This study aims to test the effectiveness of the use of Guided Inquiry-Based Student Worksheets (LKPD) in improving science literacy and science learning outcomes of grade 4 students on the topic of changes in the state of matter. A quantitative research approach was applied using a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group. Data collection techniques in this research used written tests, student scientific literacy questionnaires, observation, interviews, and data analysis. The population is 43 students in class 4 of SDN in two schools in one cluster, namely UPT SD Negeri Jeblog and UPT SD Negeri Kaweron 2. Statistical analysis included Two-Way Anova to evaluate differences between groups. The two-way ANOVA results showed significant differences in scientific literacy and learning outcomes between the experimental group (guided inquiry) and the control group (conventional method). The experimental group showed a greater increase in scientific literacy (average N-Gain = 33.28%) than the control group (average N-Gain = 23.45%). Learning outcomes also increased more significantly in the experimental group (average N-Gain = 20.69%) compared to the control group (average N-Gain = 11.23%), with a sig. 0.042 < 0.05. Hypothesis testing shows significant differences in scientific literacy and learning outcomes based on initial abilities and learning methods (sig. 0.000 < 0.05). The use of guided inquiry-based LKPD significantly improves scientific literacy and student learning outcomes, and is recommended for encouraging critical thinking and active participation in basic science education.
