Abstract

Strengthening literacy in secondary education is essential in responding to the demands of 21st-century learning. Teachers play a crucial role in integrating literacy into classroom practices; however, their understanding and skills in implementing literacy-based learning are often still limited. This community service program aims to enhance teachers’ competencies in developing literacy-based instruction at State Senior High School 5 Purworejo through a participatory and sustainable training and mentoring approach. The program involved 30 teachers and was conducted in three stages: preparation and planning, implementation, and mentoring and evaluation. The results show a significant improvement in teachers’ understanding of literacy, with the average score increasing from 62.4 to 84.7. A total of 87% of teachers were able to design literacy-based lesson plans effectively, while 73% successfully implemented them in classroom practice. Positive impacts were also observed among students, who became more active in discussions and more confident in expressing their ideas. Qualitatively, the program revealed a shift in teachers’ perspectives, where literacy is no longer seen as an additional activity but as an integral part of meaningful learning that fosters critical and reflective thinking. Overall, this program not only improved teachers’ technical competencies but also strengthened their professional awareness in creating more meaningful learning experiences. The mentoring process played a key role in supporting this transformation by providing a reflective and supportive space for continuous learning and growth.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of media, films, in shaping understanding of gender among teenagers. In the context of education, the use of films as a learning medium in the classroom can help students understand various perspectives, including gender roles and masculinity. The purpose of this study is to: (1) describe the masculinity of male characters depicted in the film Call Me Father, directed by Benni Setiawan, using Janet Saltzman Chafetz's theory. (2) describe the relevance of the representation of masculinity of father characters in the film Call Me Father, directed by Benni Setiawan, as learning in high school. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with the object of research in the form of the film Call Me Father, directed by Benni Setiawan. The research instrument used in this study is a data recording card. In collecting data, the documentation method is used. From the results of this study, it was found that: (1) the masculinity of male characters obtained includes: 1) physical appearance 2) functional 3) sexual 4) emotional 5) intellectual 6) interpersonal 7) personal character. (2) the relevance of the masculinity of the father figure in the film Call Me Father by Director Benni Setiawan as a comprehensive learning tool that combines educational elements with a captivating visual narrative, so that it is able to provide a profound impact in the learning process that is more meaningful and relevant to everyday life.

Abstract

Culture in novels is important to study in order to understand the depiction of society's culture in literary works. This research aims to describe cultural elements in the novel Kemarau di Sedanau by Asroruddin Zoechni using a qualitative method and a literary anthropology approach based on Koentjaraningrat's theory. Data were obtained through library studies with techniques of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show the presence of cultural elements such as the Malay language; knowledge systems about nature, flora and fauna, and customs; the social organization of fishing communities; living tools and technology such as pump boats, docks, bicycles, radios, dugouts, and belian wood; livelihoods as fishermen, nyuloh, and traders; religious systems including prayer, reading the Qur’an, managing funerals, and performing ablution; as well as arts such as Zapin Malay dance and Malay music.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the representation of cultural elements in the novel Brianna dan Bottomwise by Andrea Hirata based on Koentjaraningrat's seven universal cultural elements, and to describe their utilization in teaching novel texts at senior high school level. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a literary anthropology approach. Data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques from the novel. The results show that the novel represents all seven universal cultural elements: (1) language, reflected in the use of Malay dialect and kinship terms; (2) knowledge system, covering geographical and musical knowledge; (3) technology and equipment systems, including musical instruments, weapons, and vehicles; (4) livelihood systems, covering the professions of musician, journalist, police officer, and detective; (5) religious system, reflected in expressions of faith; (6) arts, particularly Malay music and popular music; and (7) social system, reflected in mutual cooperation values and marriage traditions. These findings can be utilized as learning materials for novel texts in senior high school, particularly in identifying cultural values and analyzing extrinsic elements of literary works in accordance with the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This study was motivated by unengaging learning practices resulting from conventional methods and a lack of innovation in instructional media. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the deep learning-based Articulate Storyline instructional media on the poetry-writing skills and learning interest of 11th-grade students at SMK TKM Teknik Purworejo. This study is a quantitative study using an experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of the 11th-grade Electrical Power Installation class as the experimental group and the 11th-grade Machining class A as the control group. The author conducted data analysis prerequisite tests to determine whether the collected data were normally distributed, homogeneous, and whether there were any significant differences. The findings of this study indicate that there is an effect of the deep learning-based Articulate Storyline on students’ poetry writing skills, with a score difference of 15.68. The results show a significant difference in students’ poetry writing skills between the experimental group and the control group. The deep learning-based Articulate Storyline approach influenced students’ interest in learning, resulting in a 3.73% increase; therefore, this approach can enhance students’ poetry writing skills as well as their interest in learning poetry writing.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the representation of cultural elements of Central Javanes society in Filiananur’s novel Sang Maha Sentana : A Study of Literary Anthropology. This study is a descriptive qualitative study, the focus of this study is the representation of cultursl elements of Central Javanese society in Filiananur’s novel Sang Maha Sentana. Data collection techniques are carried out using interactive analysis techniques. Data analysis is carried out using interactive analysis techniques. Data presentation techniques are carried out using informal techniques. The data source in this paper is Filiananur’s novel Sang Maha Sentana. From the results of the study, it is concluded that the representation of cultural elements of Central Javanese society in the novel Sang Maha Sentana consists of: (a) language systems in the form of Javanese, literary language, and Dutch; (b)the knowledge system is divided into three, namely knowledge of natural flora, knowledge of substances, raw materials and objects araind them, knowledge of the nature and behavior of fellow human beings is divided into three subsystems, namely matchmaking customs, marriage customes, norm systems, knowledge of space and time; (c) the system of equipment and life technology is divided into six, namely weapons, containers, food, clothing, shelter, and transportation; (d) livelihood systems;(e)religious systems; (f) art.

Abstract

This study aims to construct a hypothetical design of a school-management-based character learning management model for elementary schools in Purworejo Regency. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach; however, this article is limited to the preliminary study, needs analysis, theoretical and philosophical review, and model-design construction. The study was conducted in three elementary schools in Purworejo Regency in April 2026 and involved 3 principals and 32 teachers. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis, and were analyzed qualitatively through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The preliminary findings indicate that character values had been incorporated into school visions and missions, school programs, habituation activities, and classroom learning. Nevertheless, their management remained general, was not yet systematically integrated, and was not supported by a management design connecting planning, role distribution, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up. Accordingly, the proposed design integrates school-based management principles with the management functions of planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling (POAC). These managerial processes are directed toward value internalization through ngerti (knowing), ngrasa (feeling), and nglakoni (doing). The design positions principals, teachers, education personnel, parents, and the community as collaborative actors and uses feedback to support continuous improvement. The result of this study is a hypothetical model design and not a final model.
