Abstract

Teluk Nare, situated in North Lombok Regency, is a coastal region abundant in marine resources, serving as a hub for fisheries and marine tourism. This research seeks to evaluate the abundance and diversity of plankton as a measure of the ecological health of Teluk Nare’s aquatic environment. Sampling was conducted in February 2025 across ten stations using the purposive sampling technique. Water samples were collected with a plankton net, preserved using Lugol’s solution, and analyzed at the University of Mataram’s Hydrobiology Laboratory. The findings revealed 18 plankton genera from seven classes, with Coscinodiscus, Copepoda, and Nauplius being the most prevalent across all stations. Plankton abundance ranged from 12,000 to 32,333 cells per liter, with the highest concentrations observed near river estuaries. The diversity index indicated moderate levels (1.67–2.08), the evenness index was high (0.71–0.89), and the dominance index was low (0.16–0.26), suggesting no single dominant species and a relatively stable ecosystem. Factors such as currents, salinity, and water transparency were found to influence plankton distribution and abundance. These results offer valuable insights for the sustainable management of Teluk Nare’s coastal ecosystem.

Abstract

Global warming occurs as a result of greenhouse gas emissions and has become one of the world's biggest environmental problems today. Mangrove ecosystems play an important role in mitigating global warming through their ability to absorb and store carbon in their biomass. This study aims to determine the vegetation composition, biomass, and estimated carbon stock in mangrove biomass in the Poton Bako Hamlet mangrove area, Jerowaru District, East Lombok. The method used is a non-destructive method by measuring trunk diameter (DBH) using an allometric model approach to calculate above-ground and below-ground biomass, which is then converted into carbon stock. Four mangrove species were found at the research location: Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora stylosa, and Sonneratia alba. The mangrove density in Poton Bako Hamlet is 2,611.11 individuals/ha, categorized as dense. Sonneratia alba is the mangrove species with the highest biomass content among the other species, with above-ground biomass values of 61.37 tons/ha and below-ground biomass of 33.04 tons/ha, with a total carbon stock value of 43.43 tonsC/ha. The total above-ground biomass value of the Poton Bako mangroves is 110.22 individuals/ha, and the below-ground biomass is 52.16 tons/ha. With this biomass value, the Poton Bako mangrove area is estimated to have a total carbon stock of 74.69 tonsC/ha, consisting of 50.70 tonsC/ha above-ground carbon stock and 23.99 tonsC/ha below-ground carbon stock.

Abstract

Jukung Bay is a bay on Lombok Island. Lobster (Spiny lobster, Panulirus sp.) or crayfish is a type of crustacean that has important economic value. Water quality is very influential in lobster cultivation and plays a very important role in the survival of the lobster itself. Before cultivating lobsters, it is necessary to check the suitability of the water quality in the waters. Because water quality has a function that is greatly influenced by nature and human activities. Water quality is closely related to the process of mineral weathering in bedrock, the process of evapotranspiration in the atmosphere and the deposition of dust and salt by the wind as well as the activities of living creatures over time. This research was carried out in Ujung Betok Hamlet (Jukung Bay waters), Pemongkong Village, Jerowaru District, East Lombok Regency. The sampling locations were carried out at three points, namely, point 1 in IMTA KJA, point 2 in non-KJA waters and point 3 in non-IMTA KJA. At point 1, namely KJA, which is carried out using the IMTA system, at point 2, waters where there are no KJA and at point 3, KJA, people who cultivate lobsters do not use the IMTA system. The research was carried out from October 2022 to July 2023. In this time period, 3 samples were taken, namely in July 2022, October 2022 and February 2023. Based on the results of research using the IMTA system, it has not shown maximum results. This condition is due to the fact that at IMTA cultivation locations many floating net cage businesses are being carried out by local residents, so that the cultivation of the IMTA system being developed is still affected by the large number of cages owned by residents.
