Abstract

Writing is a fundamental language skill that plays a crucial role in academic and professional success. Descriptive writing, in particular, requires students to vividly portray ideas, experiences, or concepts using words. The purpose of this study is to provide educators and policy makers with valuable insights into targeted interventions to help students overcome barriers and achieve proficiency with writing descriptive. The use of a purposive sampling method ensures targeted selection of participants, taking into account factors such as program specialization. This is achieved by ensuring comprehensive representation of the student population, through a strategic selection of participants who will offer a variety of insights. n conclusion, The teacher uses the "picture to picture" method, where students are asked to observe the picture and its description. Some students who feel confused by the picture to picture method, students find it more difficult to observe and express the characteristics of quiet people, lack of confidence in writing descriptions, limited mastery of English vocabulary and grammar. This causes students to lack confidence in writing descriptions using grammatically correct English.

Abstract

The aimed of this research was to find out students' difficulties in Learning English and the teachers' efforts to solve students' difficulties in Learning English at Vocational High School. The research used a qualitative approach with case study method. The subject of this research were six students of the Accounting and Finance Department in the twelfth class one of the vocational high schools in Karawang. The research used observation and interviews to collect the data. The result of the research showed that the ability to speak and listen is the most difficult to acquire by the students due to lack of confidence, limited vocabulary, and people’s perception when they speak in a wrong spelling. The solution suggested by the teacher involves quizzes with a gamification approach and do more to implement the used of English in school. Therefore, students in Vocational High Schools can further develop their abilities in English learning.

Abstract

This article examines the development of intercultural literacy among students in the English Language Education Program at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang. Using a mixed-method approach, this research explores students' awareness, understanding, and application of intercultural competence in both local and global contexts. The findings reveal that while most students recognize the importance of intercultural literacy, significant gaps remain in its practical implementation. The study offers strategies for enhancing intercultural communication skills through international exchange programs and experiential learning activities. It recommends strengthening the intercultural components of the curriculum to better equip students to become culturally competent educators in multicultural environments.

Abstract

English is the main international language. In educational institutions, English is taught from an early age. Among other English language skills, Speaking is a crucial ability to develop in English. However, students continue to struggle with remembering all of the English vocabulary and speaking English in front of the class. Self-confidence is one of the factors that influence English language proficiency. Therefore, this study was done to assess the influence of self-confidence on the English speaking skill in grade XII students at SMKN 3 Karawang. This study uses quantitative research with a non-probability sampling method with a snowball sampling technique. The instrument in this study uses a self-confidence questionnaire based on Schwarzer's theory and an English-speaking ability questionnaire based on Brown's theory which was constructed by the researcher himself. Respondents in this study amounted to 240 respondents who were calculated based on the Slovin formula with a 5% error rate. The results of this study show a sig. Value. 0.000<0.005 means that self-confidence influences the ability to speak English in class XII students at SMKN 3 Karawang with a large influence of self-confidence of 15%.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process in class with flashcards and the role of flashcards in learning vocabulary. The method of this research is the qualitative descriptive method that uses random sampling. This research was conducted in Senior High School in Karawang. The instruments of this research used observation and interviews to collect data. Other information, in analyzing the data of this study using the Interactive Model. The results obtained from this study are that flash cards make the class more productive, increase student motivation, increase student response rates, increase student participation, make students active and participatory enthusiastic in the learning process, increase students’ pronunciation, increase students’ fluency and increase students’ comprehension.

Abstract

Transformasi pendidikan di era digital menuntut sinergi antara literasi teknologi, layanan konseling, dan penguatan nilai budaya lokal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru dan siswa melalui pelatihan interaktif yang mengintegrasikan Generative AI, konseling dasar, dan pembelajaran berbasis kearifan lokal. Program dilaksanakan di SMA Muhammadiyah 6 Yogyakarta dengan melibatkan 14 guru dan 30 siswa. Metode pelaksanaan mencakup workshop partisipatif, simulasi, serta penyusunan produk dan RPP. Hasil pre-test dan post-test menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman siswa sebesar 80 % dan guru sebesar 85 %. Siswa menghasilkan konten berbasis AI yang etis dan terverifikasi, sementara guru mampu menyusun RPP kontekstual dan menerapkan teknik konseling dasar. Refleksi peserta mengindikasikan perubahan perspektif terhadap peran teknologi, pentingnya empati dalam pendidikan, serta kesadaran terhadap nilai budaya dalam pembelajaran. Program ini terbukti efektif dalam menciptakan ekosistem pendidikan yang berakar lokal namun adaptif secara digital. Temuan ini menguatkan pentingnya pendekatan interdisipliner dalam menjawab tantangan pendidikan abad ke-21.

Abstract

Program pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan kompetensi penulisan artikel jurnal ilmiah bagi guru SMP Nurul Falah Johar Karawang melalui pelatihan dan pendampingan berbasis blended learning. Metode pelaksanaan terdiri atas tiga sesi tatap muka intensif, pendampingan daring berkelanjutan, serta penggunaan teknologi seperti AI generatif dan perangkat lunak manajemen referensi. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman struktur artikel, literasi sitasi, serta kesiapan memanfaatkan teknologi pendukung penulisan. Meskipun masih terdapat tantangan dalam perumusan masalah penelitian dan rasa percaya diri menulis, strategi mentoring mingguan dan klinik tematik dinilai efektif untuk mengatasinya. Refleksi teoritis menguatkan bahwa kombinasi pelatihan berbasis praktik dan coaching berkelanjutan merupakan model yang efektif dalam memperkuat kapasitas publikasi guru. Rekomendasi diarahkan pada pengembangan komunitas penulis sekolah agar tercipta keberlanjutan jangka panjang.

Abstract

Globalisasi telah memengaruhi berbagai aspek kehidupan, termasuk pendidikan bahasa Inggris. Untuk menghadapi tantangan global dan menghargai budaya lokal, diperlukan bahan ajar yang relevan, dikenal dengan konsep 'Glokalisasi'. Pelatihan berbasis teori semiotika sosial dan linguistik fungsional sistemik (LSF) ini dirancang untuk guru Bahasa Inggris SMP di Kabupaten Karawang, membantu mereka mendesain bahan ajar yang mengintegrasikan elemen global dan lokal. SFL, diperkenalkan oleh Michael Halliday pada 1960-an, memberikan kerangka kerja untuk memahami bagaimana makna dibangun melalui bahasa dalam berbagai konteks budaya. Pelatihan ini melibatkan penggunaan Siklus Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran (TLC), yang memfasilitasi siswa dalam menulis, berbicara, dan memirsa dengan bimbingan guru sebelum berlatih secara mandiri atau kolaboratif. Studi sebelumnya menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan glokalisasi dapat meningkatkan motivasi dan minat siswa, membantu mereka memahami budaya lain, dan memperkuat identitas budaya mereka. Penggunaan teknologi dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris juga menambah interaktivitas dan akses ke sumber daya global. Hasil pelatihan ini menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas peserta telah memahami dan mampu mengaplikasikan konsep glokalisasi dan SFL dengan baik, meskipun beberapa memerlukan lebih banyak praktik.

Abstract

This paper is an attempt to analyze the use of language functions of the conversation text found in When English Rings a Bell textbook. To achieve this purpose, the conversation texts in the textbook are carefully analyze through Halliday’s (1975) language function model. The results reveal that the conversation texts in the textbook is lacking some of the language functions. In regard with this, some implications were proposed.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the seating arrangement of teachers and the reasons for their seating preferences. This study was carried out at SMK Negeri 8 Bekasi, with three English teachers serving as research subjects. This study's instruments were observations and interviews. According to the study's findings, the seating arrangement that supports students demonstrates things like comfort, flexibility in carrying out activities, completing assignments, spaciousness, and cooperation with teachers. As a result, students are supported in terms of concentration, participation in class discussions, and collaboration with teachers in order to improve student performance.
