Abstract

Palm fronds are widely available and have not been widely used. After being used, palm fronds can be processed into activated charcoal products. Activated charcoal can be used as an additive in tissue culture media which functions to remove toxic compounds. The aim of this research is to produce activated charcoal from oil palm fronds and commercial tissue culture with materials that meet the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 06-3730-1995) and to determine the type of activator that is suitable for making tissue culture. . Activated charcoal meets Indonesian national standards (SNI 06-3730-1995). The research design used was RAL with three treatments and three samples, namely A1 (5% NaCl solution activator), A2 (100% starfruit juice activator) and A3 (9% H3PO4 solution activator). The parameters observed were charcoal availability, humidity, ash, volatile matter and iodine absorption capacity. Research has shown that A3 (palm fronds activated with 9% H3PO4) can be used as activated charcoal. The correct treatment in this study was A3 with 9% H3PO4 activator. Palm frond activated charcoal contains 9% H3PO4 activator, 37.3% water content, 9.6% ash, 20.8% valuable substances and iodine absorption capacity of 742.4337mg/g. Abstract

Pemupukan merupakan salah satu upaya untuk meningkatkan produktivitas pertanian. Efisiensi unsur nitrogen (N) dari pupuk urea cukup kecil karena bersifat higroskopis dan mudah larut dalam air sehingga mudah hilang saat pengaplikasian. Cara untuk meningkatkan efisiensi penggunaan pupuk urea yaitu menggunakan metode slow release fertilizer (SRF). Pelapisan atau coating merupakan salah satu teknik SRF untuk menurunkan kecepatan pelepasan zat hara pada pupuk. Penggunaan minyak atau lemak sebagai bahan baku coating urea memiliki keuntungan yaitu memiliki sifat hidrofobik, sehingga mampu menghambat interaksi antara uap air dengan pupuk. Bahan coating yang digunakan adalah stearin yang mengandung kadar asam lemak bebas (ALB) tinggi yang dikombinasikan dengan parafin. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mendapatkan perlakuan terbaik komposisi bahan coating untuk menghasilkan pupuk urea SRF. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) non faktorial dengan 5 taraf perlakuan yang diulang sebanyak 5 kali. Perlakuan penelitian terdiri dari perbandingan stearin dan parafin yaitu: C1= 20%:80%, C2= 40%:60%, C3=50%:50%, C4= 60% : 40% dan C5= 80%:20%. Parameter yang diamati yaitu analisa kadar ALB stearin, morfologi granula, daya serap air dan udara bebas, uji perendaman, pengaruh pH terhadap kelarutan pupuk coating serta uji mikrografis lapisan yang terbentuk pada permukaan dan patahan pupuk SRF. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hanya perlakuan C5 yang tidak bisa membentuk granular. Perlakuan C2= 40%:60% merupakan perlakuan terbaik yang berpengaruh terhadap parameter perendaman selama 60 hari. Secara mikrografis, penambahan bahan pelapis terlihat pada permukaan dan patahan pupuk urea SRF sehingga mampu membuat pupuk urea SRF tidak mudah larut.

Abstract

Ganoderma sp. is a fungal pathogen that causes basal stem rot in oil palm, leading to production losses of up to 80%. One potential method to inhibit fungal growth is the use of plant-based fungicides derived from bintaro fruit (Cerbera manghas L.) extract. This study aims to determine the effective concentration of C. manghas fruit extract for controlling Ganoderma sp., the causal agent of basal stem rot disease in oil palm, under in vitro conditions. The extract was tested at concentrations of 0%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10% using a Completely Randomized Design with five treatments and five replications. The extract was prepared using distilled water (simple extraction) and incorporated into PDA medium. Observed parameters included fungal colony area, mycelial dry weight, and mycelial fresh weight. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at the 5% significance level. The results indicated that C. manghas fruit extract inhibited the growth of Ganoderma sp. The 6% extract concentration exhibited the highest inhibitory effect, reducing colony area by 15.49%, dry weight by 31.30%, and fresh weight by 30.77%.
