KATA KUNCI: asupan zat gizi; kurang energi kronis; siswi; SMA    ABSTRACTBackground: Chronic energy deficiency (CED) is a condition in teenage girls or women of reproductive age who are experiencing long-term energy and protein deficiencies. CED is still a nutrition problem in teenagers that must be addressed because it has serious long-term impacts. The most prominent CED occurs at the age of 15-19 years, especially in adolescent girls. CED can be seen from the size of the upper arm circumference (MUAC) <23.5 cm Nutritional intake is a direct factor that causes CED. Lack of nutritional intake that does not meet needs can result in weight loss and if it continues can result in chronic energy deficiency. Objectives:  to analyze the relationship between nutritional intake and the incidence of chronic energy deficiency in female high school students in urban and rural areas of Kediri Regency. Methods: The research method used is analytical observational with case control design, the sample consists of six high schools which are divided into three high schools in urban areas and three high schools in rural areas with a total sample of 144 students, each school has 24 samples. Data collection used a 2x24 hour food recall questionnaire taken on weekdays and weekends. Data were analyzed using SPSS Version 26 with chi-square.Results: The results showed that there is a relationship between Nutrient intake in urban areas (energy intake (0.000), protein (0.03), carbohydrates (0.000 and fat (0.04)) and rural areas (energy intake (0.000), protein (0.018), carbohydrates (0.000 and fat (0.018) with the incidence of chronic energy deficiency in female high school students in Kediri Regency Conclusions: Therefore, female students can know that nutritional intake (energy, protein, carbohydrate and fat intake) is the cause of chronic energy deficiency (CED) so that it can be used as a reference to prevent experiencing chronic energy deficiency.  KEYWORD: nutrient intake; chronic energy deficiency; female students; high school

Abstract

Caesalpinia bonduc (L) Roxb is a medicinal plant commonly utilized in traditional Indonesian medicine, particularly for the treatment of diabetes mellitus (DM). This study examined the effects of varying doses C. bonduc extract on fasting blood sugar (FBS), malondialdehyde (MDA), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β), and pancreatic histology in male and female wistar rats with diabetes. The study design included six groups of 18 male and female rats (Wistar strain) each. To develop diabetes, nicotinamide (NA) (110 mg/kg) and streptozotocin (STZ) (45 mg/kg) were supplied, followed by oral administration of C. bonduc extract at dosages of 200, 400, and 600 mg/kg for 21 days. We utilized ELISA to analyze biochemical parameters and employed H&E staining to evaluate histological changes. A factorial design was employed for the statistical analysis to examine the effects of both dosage and sex. This study offers a unique comparative examination of the antidiabetic efficacy of C. bonduc across genders, a dimension seldom explored in experimental diabetes research. The findings indicated that C. bonduc markedly reduced levels of FBS, MDA, TNF-α, and TGF-β (p < 0.05) enhanced the structural integrity of the pancreas. There were no significant differences between males and female (p > 0.05). The dosage and sex influenced MDA and TGF-β. The extract of C. bonduc shown the ability to lower blood sugar, fight free radicals, and reduce inflammation; however, the intensity of these benefits depended on the dosage given. This means that it might assist persons with diabetes minimize oxidative stress and damage to the pancreas.

Abstract

Background: Dysmenorrhea is a common reproductive health problem among adolescent girls and often interferes with daily activities. Various management strategies are used to alleviate dysmenorrhea, including the use of traditional medicine. This study aimed to examine the influence of Health Belief Model (HBM) constructs on the choice of traditional medicine for reducing dysmenorrhea among adolescent girls. Subject and Methods: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design carried out in Boyolali Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. A total of 200 female adolescents were selected using stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a standardized questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Multivariate data analysis was conducted using path analysis to identify both direct and indirect effects among variables. Results:  The selection of traditional medicine for dysmenorrhea management among adolescent girls was directly influenced by perceived benefits (b = 1.29; 95% CI= 0.61–1.97; p < 0.001) and perceived severity (b= −0.14; 95% CI= −0.71 to 0.43; p= 0.631). Meanwhile, perceived susceptibility (b= 0.81; 95% CI= 0.17–1.45; p= 0.013), perceived barriers (b= −1.53; 95% CI= −2.29 to −0.77; p < 0.001), cues to action (b= 1.44; 95% CI= 0.80–2.09; p < 0.001), and self-efficacy (b= −0.98; 95% CI= −1.61 to −0.34; p = 0.003) had indirect effects on the choice of traditional medicine. The resulting path model demonstrated good goodness-of-fit. Conclusion: Health Belief Model constructs can be effectively applied as a framework for understanding the selection of traditional medicine. HBM-based interventions that emphasize increasing perceived benefits and managing perceived barriers are recommended to support informed reproductive health decision-making among adolescents

Abstract

Background: Discontinuation of contraceptive use among women of reproductive age can hinder the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Sociodemographic factors of women may be related to the contraceptive use duration before they decide to discontinue. It can be used as a basis for formulating interventions to ensure they are on target. The aim of this research to identify and analyze the association between sociodemographic factors and duration of last contraceptive use among women of reproductive-age who ever had experienced discontinuity of their contraception. Methods: The study was a cross-sectional, women aged 20-49 years who ever experienced contraceptive discontinuation as the population. Sampling based on purposive stratified random sampling with proportional allocation obtained a sample of 150 people. The study was conducted in Kediri Regency which was carried out in August-September 2025. Age, education, employment status, number of children, and the last contraceptive method used when discontinuing use were observed as independent variables. The duration of the last contraceptive use for the dependent variable. Primary data collection used a questionnaire and was analyzed using Spearman's Rho test. Results: Research outcomes presented a significant relationship between women’s age and the duration of last contraceptive use (p = 0.007).Conclusions: The correlation between women’s age and duration of last contraceptive use can be used as a basis for developing interventions to extend the duration of contraceptive use through comprehensive and ongoing education or counselling about the benefits and management of side effects of contraception in younger mothers.
