Abstract

This study uses a soft system methodology to examine the coconut milk supply chain, which supports the local food agro-industry, particularly for rendang products. It aims to develop a fundamental concept to optimize this supply chain. The proposed method is effective for addressing complex, multi-stakeholder problems. Using systems thinking, real-world system behaviour is converted into a conceptual model, facilitating decision-making through customer, actor, transformation, worldview, owner, and environment components. The findings include a conceptual model translated into a causal loop diagram, part of a dynamic systems approach, which shows the interconnections and feedbacks among variables in the supply chain, such as raw material supply, logistics costs, production volume, and distribution costs. This stage identifies stakeholders and systematically illustrates the relationships in managing the flow of goods. It provides a basis for designing a supply chain network aligned with local government policies for developing the coconut milk agro-industry. It aims to optimize the local food industry, particularly rendang, in West Sumatra province. After creating the conceptual model, gap analysis and validation were conducted, comparing the model with real-world insights from stakeholders, including coconut farmers, producers, rendang manufacturers, academic institutions, and local governments. Validation focused on efficiency, efficacy, and effectiveness. The results demonstrate the foundational idea for designing the coconut milk agro-industry supply chain network to support local food products, as depicted in the causal loop diagram.

Abstract

Abstract This research discusses the performance of the 2.4 GHz Zigbee wireless antenna for wide-area wireless sensor network applications. The transmitter antenna is installed on the drone as a mobile wireless sensor network medium and the receiver antenna is located in a certain location in the outdoor environment. The device settings for the transmitter antenna and receiver antenna are non-Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) mode so that the data received by the receiver in this experiment can later be compared with the results of theoretical calculations using Matlab. Non-ARQ is an alternative to reduce energy consumption in wireless sensor networks. In this experiment, a point-to-point communication model was carried out. From the experimental results, it was found that at a distance of 0m-100m, the Packet Error Rate (PER) value for each drone height increased by 17-18%. Furthermore, at a distance of 100m-150m, the PER value experienced a slight decrease, namely 15-16% for three different drone heights. Starting from a distance of 150m-250m, the PER value experiences a significant increase, reaching a PER of 70% for a drone height of 30m, a PER of 80% for a drone height of 45m and a PER of 88% for a drone height of 15m. At a distance of 250m-350m, the PER value appears to remain constant for a drone height of 45m and a height of 30m, namely reaching a PER value of 78% at a distance of 350m, while for a drone height of 15m, the PER value increases to reach 98% at a distance of 350m. The simulation results with Matlab show Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) to the distance between the transmitter antenna and the receiver antenna for a transmitter antenna height of 15m and receiver antenna height of 1.5m. The RSSI value continues to increase -66 dBm at a distance of 20m and this is the best RSSI value. Furthermore, the height of the transmitter antenna is 30m and the receiver antenna is 1.5m. The RSSI value continues to increase -73 dBm at a distance of 45m and this is the best RSSI value. At a distance of 3m the RSSI value continues to increase -76 dBm at a distance of 62m and this is the best RSSI value.

Abstract

Indonesia's horticulture sector has undergone rapid expansion, driven by rising demand from both domestic and international markets. However, small-scale farmers continue to struggle with limited market access, price volatility, and high production costs, affecting their profitability and long-term sustainability. This study conducted a comprehensive literature review of 135 scientific articles to analyze three dominant supply chain models: direct marketing, contract farming, and cooperatives. Direct marketing allows farmers to secure higher prices by bypassing intermediaries but poses challenges in terms of operational scale, financial resources, and market access. Contract farming provides stability through guaranteed pricing, input support, and technical assistance, though profit distribution often favors contracting firms. Meanwhile, cooperatives offer better market access and collective bargaining power but require strong organizational structures to function effectively. The findings emphasize the importance of policies that support farmer education, improve market infrastructure, and encourage fair contractual agreements. Additionally, agribusiness stakeholders must invest in supply chain innovations and risk mitigation strategies to enhance efficiency and transparency. Strengthening these aspects is crucial for fostering a more resilient and sustainable horticultural sector in Indonesia

Abstract

This study explores the potential of agroecology in developing a sustainable sugar palm agroindustry in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The sugar palm (Arenga pinnata) is a vital economic resource, yet its development faces limited technology, traditional management practices, and low-quality seed availability. The research aims to analyze the demographic characteristics influencing the adoption of agroecological principles among sugar palm craftsmen and assess the agroindustry's sustainability and productivity. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving in-depth interviews with 100 respondents, including sugar palm farmers and craftsmen, alongside secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency. The findings reveal that most artisans are in the productive age group, with low formal education but significant practical experience. While 65% of respondents practice crop diversification, challenges remain in soil conservation and adopting environmentally friendly technologies. The study forecasts increased palm sugar production, projecting growth from 664.4 tons in 2022 to 790.8 tons by 2026, indicating potential for enhanced productivity. Integrating traditional knowledge with modern agroecological practices is essential for improving sustainability and competitiveness in the sugar palm agroindustry. Training programs that respect traditional values while promoting sustainable practices are necessary to empower artisans and enhance regional food security. This research underscores the importance of community collaboration among farmers, government, and research institutions to foster a more resilient and equitable agroecological system.

Abstract

Local rice seeds are crucial to Indonesia's food security and agricultural sustainability, especially in West Sumatra. Seed management has yet to achieve seed independence, hindering the development of breeders and seed users. Overcoming this requires collaboration between stakeholders because locals can take collective responsibility and build trust in the Government through collaborative seed governance. This study introduces the concept of assessing the level of collaboration between stakeholders to analyze the stages of cooperation currently occurring in the governance of local rice seeds in West Sumatra. This study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. The study involved interviews with experts and a literature review, identifying 14 indicators influencing collaboration in seed governance. After validation by 5 (five) Experts, 13 (thirteen) indicators were obtained for further analysis using the Fuzzy Delphi, which was applied through a questionnaire distributed to 30 (thirty) informants representing stakeholders in five Regencies/Cities selected purposively in West Sumatra Province. The results were analyzed using a Likert scale and converted to fuzzy logic. These indicators are categorized into 5 (five) characteristics of collaboration. This study found that the level of collaboration between stakeholders is at the "cooperation" stage, which shows a significant lack of effectiveness in the interaction between stakeholders. This study offers valuable insights for stakeholders to enhance the collaborative process of local rice seed management, thereby achieving food security and sustainable agriculture.

Abstract

The building sector consumes about 30% of the world's primary energy demand. Conventionally, reducing building energy consumption is done through energy saving or energy conservation activities. Nearly zero energy building (nZEB) itself can be defined as a provision that implies a value of energy consumption that is as low as possible or an energy-efficient building, then determines the energy source that is able to meet these energy needs. These strategies can generally be done with passive design, active design, and comprehensive energy management approaches [6]. This article presents an overview of the implementation of nZEB and finds out the shortcomings in terms of strategies and techniques used for different types of buildings and climates. Given the differences in climate and building characteristics, we found that each region has different challenges in applying the nZEB concept.

Abstract

The sequence of product assembly affects the efficiency and effectiveness of production because it reduces cycle time and production costs and reduces production errors. The application of artificial intelligence is growing to optimize the problem of assembly sequences of components or products, including genetic algorithms and fuzzy logic. These two models can complement each other to produce the best assembly sequence. This research consists of several stages: model formulation, model analysis, solution, and model verification and validation. A hybrid fuzzy and genetic algorithms model can optimize product assembly sequences more effectively and efficiently. Fuzzy logic can help determine the variables that must be optimized, while genetic algorithms can help find the optimal solution by combining these variables. Experiments using hybrid fuzzy logic and genetic algorithms to minimize assembly cycle time have resulted in product part assembly sequences that accommodate all geometric constraints, including assistive devices.

Abstract

Indonesia is listed as the second largest contributor to plastic waste in the world. The problem currently faced is the increasing amount of plastic waste which is one result of the business processes of companies using plastic packaging or plastic packaging manufacturers, one of the plastic packaging waste that comes from cooking oil packaging. The method to solve the problem of processing cooking oil packaging waste carried out in this study is to modify the existing system into a reverse logistics system. Currently, cooking oil companies have not implemented reverse logistics to reduce plastic packaging production. The reverse logistics system applied in this study is to modify cooking oil packages into packages that can be used repeatedly. The reverse logistics system that is applied is then modeled linerly to find out the minimal costs in implementing reverse logistics for the packaged cooking oil. Based on the development of the packaged cooking oil waste management model, it is known that the results of determining the model solution with the linear programming model are the minimal costs for reverse logistics of packaged cooking oil. The model is designed to do a sensitivity analysis by making changes to the reverse logistics cost parameters, changes in the reverse logistics cost parameters resulting in changes to the results that are directly proportional. The designed model is implemented using PT. XYZ which has a similarity with the designed system.
