Abstract

The focus of this study is how the process of learning to make batik for children in Kampung Batik Tanjung Bumi not only functions as a skill inheritance, but also as a means of preserving local cultural values. The main problem raised is the low interest of the younger generation in traditional cultural heritage, especially Madurese batik, amidst the currents of modernization and globalization. This study aims to formulate a creative ethnopedagogy learning model based on local wisdom through batik activities, so that it can increase children's interest while maintaining the sustainability of tradition. The methodology used is a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with batik artisans, children participating in the learning, parents, and local traditional figures, as well as documentation of activities. Data analysis was carried out thematically by mapping interaction patterns, transmitted values, and creative innovations in learning. The results of the study show that learning to make batik in Tanjung Bumi is able to integrate ethical values, aesthetics, hard work, and respect for nature and ancestors. Children not only learn batik techniques, but also understand the philosophy of motifs, local history, and symbolic meanings contained in each motif. The formulated creative ethnopedagogy model emphasizes a participatory approach, educational games, and expressive space for motif innovation. Thus, batik learning for children becomes an effective means for the regeneration of craftsmen as well as the preservation of cultural heritage.

Abstract

Indonesia has the potential to become a globally popular halal tourist due to its large Muslim population and beautiful and diverse cultural attractions. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the country faced several challenges in developing this sector. Halal tourists continue to experience a decline due to foreign and domestic tourists not making visits by considering many factors, including health, the economy, and the attractiveness of tourist attractions. This study seeks to explore strategies for increasing halal tourism in Indonesia by using a SWOT analysis consisting of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. After observing and analyzing, we present research results based on the SWOT sub-indicators. The first is strength. Indonesia has a rich cultural heritage, diverse and attractive natural resources, a large Muslim population, and the availability of many places of worship for Muslim tourists which can be utilized to develop halal tourism. The country also has a well-developed tourism infrastructure, with international airports, hotels, and a transportation system in major cities. Second, weakness. Despite its potential, Indonesia faces several challenges in developing halal tourism, such as the ongoing pandemic that endangers the safety of tourism, limited accessibility, problems with halal certification standards, and weak marketing. The third is opportunity. Indonesia can exploit the growing demand for halal tourism by developing targeted marketing using platform media, creating halal-friendly accommodations and services, and streamlining the halal certification process. The country can also take advantage of emerging trends such as ecotourism and adventure tourism to attract more tourists. Fourth, threats. Indonesia faces competition from other countries that are also investing in halal tourism, such as Malaysia and Turkey. The country also faces external threats such as political instability and the COVID-19 pandemic which can disrupt the halal tourism industry. Therefore, to overcome these challenges, Indonesia can develop a comprehensive strategy that focuses on improving halal certification standards, promoting halal-friendly accommodations and services, and creating optimal and targeted marketing to attract Muslim tourists. Governments can also invest in infrastructure development, such as expanding airports and transportation systems, to enhance the tourism experience.

Abstract

Tour of Lake Toba is a musical performance initiated by Rumah Karya Indonesia as the organizational institution responsible for this performance which is based on the idiom of traditional musical culture in the Lake Toba area. The Tour of Lake Toba musical performance has the theme Sira, which is an acronym for Sinergi Rasa. Sira in the lexicon of the North Sumatra Cultural region means salt brought by sira travelers or salt bearers from coastal areas to the highlands as an artifact of the exchange of objects and knowledge that occurred in the past. The aim of this research is to discuss the actor and power dimensions in the Tour of Lake Toba musical performance. The method used in this research is qualitative using a naturalistic approach. The research is discussed using Jo Hatch's rational organization theory approach. The research results show that the tour of Lake Toba musical performance involves various actors, both main actors and supporting actors. These actors create cooperation that produces a performance output that is bound by a cooperation agreement. From this agreement, a process emerged consisting of planning, organizing, mobilizing and supervising the musical performance tour of Lake Toba in the cities of Bandung, Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Solo. Rumah Karya Indonesia Institution builds a strong social network. These connections and relationships are used to obtain support, resources, and information. So this becomes a network that provides specific power in carrying out North Sumatran traditional performances on the island of Java.

Abstract

This study examines the psychosocial determinants of loan default among Millennial and Gen Z users of Islamic fintech microfinance in Indonesia, applying General Strain Theory (GST) to compare behavioral dynamics across urban and rural contexts. Data were collected from 307 respondents and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results reveal notable contextual differences: in urban settings, default intention is significantly influenced by social difficulties, feelings of inferiority, life dissatisfaction, loneliness, and weakened moral norms. In contrast, loneliness emerges as the only significant predictor in rural areas. Economic pressure did not serve as a major driver, emphasizing the greater influence of psychosocial strain over financial factors. These findings suggest that fintech providers should refine credit risk assessments by incorporating psychological and social indicators. Interventions such as financial literacy programs, moral reinforcement, and community-based support systems may be particularly effective, especially in rural areas where social isolation is prevalent. This study offers a novel application of GST in the Islamic fintech domain, providing theoretical advancement and practical implications for more ethical and socially inclusive fintech development.

Abstract

Dancers’ makeup in a performance is an attraction for the community of connoisseurs and observers of the Ebeg. The Mega Laras group in Tanjunganom, Rakit, Banjarnegara was plagued by problems with the makeup of its performers in staging performances, caused by the lack of knowledge and skills of the dancers and makeup artists. With full support from the village government and all group members to conserve Ebeg as an Indonesian cultural heritage, Universitas Negeri Semarang through its community service team provided a solution through facilitation-based action learning model training. The purpose of this activity was to improve the makeup skills of the group members, with main stages of implementation of preparation, training, and result analysis. The preparation included coordinating with partners about the place and time of the activity, and team coordination regarding technical implementation. The training phase included planning, workshop, and mentoring. During the training, a set of tools and makeup materials were distributed to partner. Analysis of the overall activity showed that 80% of participants demonstrated significant skill improvement after the training. The community service activity supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) 4, namely Quality Education, for providing lifelong learning opportunities for the traditional arts practitioners.
