Abstract

Abstract

The implementation of academic supervision at elementary schools in Nalumsari did not run optimally. The problems came from the teacher’s low performance of teachers in managing learning in the classroom, the lack of teacher comfort when adapting to the supervision applied by the principal, the lack of teacher ability in analyzing the learning successfully, the lack of teacher ability to represent the self-reflection, and the lack of guidance carried out by the principal as follow-up supervision that could help teachers to improve their performance. Hence, this article analyzes the effectiveness of the Motirtar coaching-based academic supervision model. The research is a Research and Development to analyze the effectiveness of the development of the Motirtar coaching-based academic supervision model for elementary school teachers in Nalumsari. Data were collected by observation, documentation, interviews, and questionnaires. Data were analyzed through qualitative descriptive analysis, n-gain test, and t-test at a significance level of 0.05. The effectiveness of the Motirtar coaching-based academic supervision model was applied through product trials conducted at SDN 2 Gemiringlor, SDN 3 Ngetuk, SDN 1 Nalumsari, and SDN 1 Tunggul as an experimental class. SDN 2 Gemiringkidul, SDN 3 Bendanpete, SDN 2 Karangnongko, and SDN 2 Blimbingrejo are the control class. The results showed the effectiveness of the MOTIRTAR coaching-based academic supervision model to improve teacher performance as seen from the increasing value from first and final supervision in the control and experimental classes were Sig (2-tailed) 0.491 > 0.05 with an average value of 29.61 and 41,43.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a Problem Based Learning (PBL) model based on the traditional game “Bakiak” for mathematics learning at elementary schools. This study employed Research and Development (R&D) methods using the Borg and Gall model, which was simplified into eight steps: (1) potential and problem analysis, (2) data collection, (3) product design, (4) design validation, (5) design revision, (6) product testing, (7) product revision, and (8) trial use. The subjects of this study were fifth-grade elementary school students from several schools in Kabupaten Pati. The results of the study produced a PBL model based on the “Bakiak” game for mathematics learning at the elementary school level on the topics of speed, distance, and time for grade V. In the guiding phase, individual and group investigations were integrated with the “Bakiak” game. The syntax for developing the model consisted of seven stages, namely student orientation to problems, organizing students to learn, guiding individual and group investigations, assisting in data analysis, helping students discover mathematical concepts, developing work results, and analyzing and evaluating the learning process. The product and research instruments were validated by media experts, material experts, and learning experts, obtaining a score of 3.47 in the very good category. Therefore, the development of a PBL model based on the “Bakiak” game was feasible for use in mathematics learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the need for developing teaching materials based on confident character education, to describe the product design of teaching materials development, and to explain the acceptability of developing teaching materials based on confident character education in order to improve studennts’ reading skills at grade IV. This study was conducted at three elementary schools in Kecamatan Kaliwungu Kudus in November 2020. Teaching materials referred to a set of learning materials/substances (teaching materials) arranged systematically, presenting a complete figure of the competencies that students should master in learning activities. According to Lauster in Ghufron (2011: 36), the aspects contained in self-confidence included: self-belief, optimism, positive attitude, objective, responsible, and rational. Research and development (R & D) method was utilized to develop or validate the products used in education and learning. This teaching material was effective in improving students' reading aloud skills. This was evidenced from the results of the increase in the n-gain index in the experimental class which was higher than the control class. The experimental class experienced an increase in gain of 0.57 in the medium category and the control class by 0.25 in the low category

Abstract

This study investigated the development, characteristics, and effectiveness of a 4C-based Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) assessment in enhancing sixth-grade students’ critical thinking abilities in mathematics learning at elementary schools in Kudus. Specifically, the objectives were: (1) to formulate a 4C-based HOTS assessment design aimed at improving students’ critical thinking skills; (2) to describe the defining characteristics of the developed 4C-based HOTS assessment; and (3) to analyze its effectiveness in improving students’ critical thinking abilities. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach by adapting the Borg and Gall development model, which consists of ten systematic stages. The field trial involved 73 sixth-grade students, comprising 37 students from SD 1 and SD 2 Gribig as the experimental group and 36 students from SD 1 and SD 3 Klumpit as the control group. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, tests, and interviews. To determine effectiveness, data were analyzed using gain score analysis and t-tests at a significance level of 0.05. The results indicated that the developed HOTS assessment based on the 4C framework possessed seven main characteristics: (1) measuring higher-order thinking skills, (2) promoting divergent thinking, (3) utilizing multiple representations, (4) incorporating contextual and problem-based situations, (5) applying varied questioning techniques, (6) assessing communication skills, and (7) evaluating collaboration skills. Statistical analysis demonstrated that the 4C-based HOTS assessment was effective in improving students’ critical thinking abilities and learning outcomes. This was evidenced by an increase in the average critical thinking score of the experimental group to 80.59, categorized as moderate, and an increase in the average learning outcome score to 89.05, also within the moderate category. In conclusion, the implementation of a 4C-based HOTS assessment significantly enhanced sixth-grade students’ critical thinking abilities in mathematics learning at elementary schools in Kudus, thereby supporting the integration of 21st-century skills within assessment practices.
