Abstract

This study aims to decide the impact of vocabulary mastery on the reading comprehension of junior high school students. This study utilized a quantitative strategy with simple linear regression analysis. This research data was collected through a test consisting of vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension. The sample of the research was determined using random sampling. There are 59 students from SMP Negeri 2 Pangkajene and 16 students from SMP Negeri 4 Pangkajene. The aftereffects of this study show that there is an impact of vocabulary mastery on students’ reading comprehension. It is clear from the consequences of the computation of the correlation (R) is 0.573 with a coefficient of determination (R Square) of 0.329 which infers that the impact of the independent variable (vocabulary mastery) on the dependent variable (reading comprehension) was 32.9%. This shows that i 0.000 < 0.05. The conclusion is (Ho) is dismissed and (Ha) is acknowledged.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the results of using Youtube media in improving students' vocabulary mastery in class XI MAN 1 Barru. This research uses the quantitative method. This research is a type of Classroom Action Research. The research data was collected using multiple-choice tests consisting of pre-test and post-test. The sample of this study was cluster random sampling with the assumption that class XI MAN 1 Barru was homogeneous or the same there were 23 students in class XI. The results of this study indicate that there is an increase in students' vocabulary mastery and activities in learning English through the use of Youtube Videos. that the mastery of vocabulary through the use of Youtube videos obtained in cycle I and cycle II there is a significant increase. This increase can be seen by an increase in vocabulary mastery where in the first cycle there are (26.09%) of students have achieved a complete score or score with an average value of 65.07 while in the second cycle, it increases to (100%) of students who have achieved a complete score with an average score of 84.49. This means that it shows an increase in students who get complete scores (73.91%).

Abstract

This research aimed to find out how students’ use and to assess their perception of the Duolingo application as a medium for learning pronunciation. This current research used a descriptive qualitative method with subjects of this research were two students of English Education at Universitas Negeri Makassar and random sampling was used in which the subjects that were being randomized had been using the Duolingo application for a long time. The instruments used in this research were observation by observing students using the Duolingo application using an observation checklist, and interviews using semi-structured interviews, namely interviews using interview guides originating from the subject concerned. The results of the research concluded that:  The use of Duolingo application consists of; students chose the level on the application, students do pronunciation exercises in the application, students studied vowels and consonants features in the application, students get feedback from the application, students have and use several additional features contained in the application. Furthermore, students positive perception of the Duolingo application; in cognitive aspects, students perceive that the Duolingo application is an online learning tool that can be used as a learning medium for learning pronunciation, in affective aspects students feel helped and made it easier when learning pronunciation using this application because there are interesting features that can increase students' excitement and make it easy for students to understand the instructions, in conative aspect, students using Duolingo application with follow the instructions provided and focus on each exercise and material contained in the application. While using this application, students can feel changes in their pronunciation. The changes in pronunciation experienced by students do not take long because they often use it in everyday life. The Duolingo application can be used every day, wherever and whenever because it is online-based and also free. Therefore, the Duolingo application can be used as a learning medium for learning pronunciation.

Abstract

The goal of this survey is for find out if or not writing a diary is affective to improve learners’ writing ability in recount text at second grade of MTs Darul Iman Mammi. This study was applied a quantitative method with pre-experimental research design. The population was secondary level students which come about 17 students. The sample taken was one class,  obtained by using total technique sampling. The appliance of this study was a writing test with a pretest and posttest. This research showed that, the mean score of students in pre-test was 19.94 and post-test was 25.64. Also, it was found that t-test value (52.326) ˃ t table value (2.120) and the Sig value obtained (2-tailed) from Paired Sample Test result was 0.000, this value is smaller than α=0.05. It means that null hypothesis (H0) is condemned and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is effective. It matters that utilize diary writing is affective for fix learners’ writing ability in recount text on secondary level students at MTs Darul Iman Mammi, Polman.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the profile of pedagogical competence of English. The subject of the research was two English teachers at SMPN 1 Liukang Kalmas. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. The interview and documentation were used as the main tools to collect data. The results of this research showed that the two English teachers demonstrated good in organizing educational development activities due to: (1) In implementing learning activities English teachers’ lessons begin with prayer, apperception, motivation, and clear objectives, setting a positive tone. (2) In responding to learners’ mistakes as stages of the learning process teachers constructively respond to students' mistakes, offering support and rewards that enhance motivation and confidence. (3) In classroom management English teachers’ cooperative classroom atmosphere is fostered through rotating group activities, keeping students engaged. (4) In providing opportunities for learners to express opinions in discussion. The teachers also facilitate interactive discussions, and group problem-solving, and address challenges like limited internet access, ensuring sustained student enthusiasm and optimal learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research was a pre-experimental study with one group pre-test and a post-test design, which aims to investigate whether or not the Project-Based Learning method has a significant effect on improving students' speaking skills of class X DKV SMK 3 Parepare students. The sample in this study was 25 students using the cluster random sampling technique. This research used a speaking test as a data collection instrument. The results of this test were used to the effect of significant from implementing the PBL method on students’ speaking skill of class X DKV SMK 3 Parepare students after treatment. It can be proven that the t-test value is smaller than P (0.000 < 0.05), which means that (H0) of this research is rejected and (H1) is accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the PBL method has a significant effect on improving students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

This study examined the strategies used by English teachers to shape student discipline at SMPN 3 Polewali, focusing on methods such as self-directed, student-directed, and situation-directed strategies, as well as rewards and punishments. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through classroom observations, teacher interviews, and documentation. The findings revealed that teachers involved students in creating classroom rules, fostering a sense of responsibility. Positive reinforcement, including praise and additional grades, effectively motivated students, while non-verbal cues like eye contact helped maintain classroom order. Teachers also used specific punishments, such as vocabulary memorization, for recurrent discipline issues. Among these methods, reward strategies proved to be the most influential in encouraging student discipline, as they fostered intrinsic motivation and reinforced positive behavior in a conducive learning environment.

Abstract

This analysis aimed to evaluate whether the Direct Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) improves students' ability to comprehend literal reading. The researcher utilized a pre-experimental design incorporating a single-group pre-test and post-test method. The study included 20 eighth-grade students from UPT SMPN 26 Kepulauan Selayar, selected using a total sampling technique. A reading comprehension assessment, focused on the literal understanding of recount texts, was employed as the research tool. The analysis of the pre-test and post-test data, using the significance test formula, showed a t-test value of 9.958, which was higher than the t-table value of 2.09302. This resulted in the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (H1). Further examination of the N-gain value placed the results in the "great" category. In conclusion, the use of the DRTA strategy significantly enhanced students' comprehension of critical components of texts, such as details, central themes, sequences, comparisons, cause-and-effect relationships, and character traits.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out whether or not the use of social modelling improves students’ creativity in learning English. This research used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire. The participants of this research were 31 eight-grade students at SMPN 18 Makassar. They were selected using random sampling techniques. The results of the pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire, using social modelling to improve students’ creativity in learning English, are evidenced by the value of the t-test. This can be proven by a t-test value that is lower than P (0.000 < 0.05), which means that H0 of this study is rejected and HA is accepted. So, it can be concluded that the use of social modelling can improve students’ creativity in learning English in junior high school.

Abstract

The present study strives to figure out whether or not Using Memes Increases the Students' Vocabulary Mastery. The research design used during this research was quantitative with a pre-experimental research type. The population of this research was the entire seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 18 Barru. The sample was taken by using the cluster random sampling technique, which consists of 25 students of class VIII-1. This experiment was conducted in four meetings. The outcome of the data analysis shows that using memes increases the students' vocabulary mastery. The results of the data analysis exhibited that there was a difference of significant among pre-test results and students' post-test results. That is, the mean score of the students' post-test (83.24) was higher than the students' pre-test means score (30.84). This is also evidenced by the t-test value (26.31), which was higher than the t-table value (2.063899). Based on the findings and discussion of the study, the researcher concludes that using memes increases the students’ vocabulary mastery in class VIII SMPN 18 Barru.
