Abstract

Background: The conventional drugs for dyslipidemia theraphy needed to be concerned in the usage because of the side effect of the drugs. The Anthocyanin was one of the flavonoid compound that can be used as an alternative theraphy for dyslipidemia. The leaf of the purple sweet potato have been proved containing anthocyanin.Aim: The study aims to know the effectivity of the sweet potato leaf on lipid profile of male wistar rats induced by dyslipidemia feed extract.Method: The study design was pre and post-test control group design. Thirty white male rats were divided into five groups. All of the groups were given high-cholesterol diet for three months. Negative control groups of rats were given only high-cholesterol diet alone, positive control groups were given dyslipidemia drugs and the treatment groups were given sweet potato leaf water extract with the doses of each group were 3cc, 6cc and 9cc. Before and after treatment, lipid profile levels were measured.Results: There was a decrease in total cholesterol, triglyseride and LDL in treatmen group with 6cc and 9cc dose significantly (p<0,05) compared with the negative control group.Conclusion: The sweet potato leaf extract can improve the lipid profile of the dyslipidemia rats. Latar Belakang: Obat konvensional yang biasa dipakai untuk terapi dari dislipidemia masih harus diperhatikan dalam pemakaiannya karena masih adanya efek samping yang tidak diinginkan. Senyawa antosianin merupakan salah satu senyawa flavonoid yang dapat berpotensi sebagai terapi alternatif untuk dislipidemia. Pada daun ubi jalar ungu terbukti terdapat senyawa antosianin yang dapat digunakan sebagi terapi alternatif dislipidemia. Tujuan: untuk mengetahui efektivitas dari ekstrak daun ubi jalar ungu (Ipomoea batatas) terhadap profil lipid tikus putih jantan galur wistar yang diinduksi pakan dislipidemia. Metode: Rancangan penelitian adalah pre and post-test control group design. Penelitian dilakukan pada 30 ekor tikus putih jantan yang dibagi menjadi lima kelompok. Kelima kelompok tikus diberi makanan tinggi kolesterol selama tiga bulan. Pada kelompok tikus kontrol negatif hanya diberi pakan kolesterol, kontrol positif diberikan juga obat dislipidemia dan tiga kelompok perlakuan diberikan ekstrak air daun ubi ungu dengan dosis masing-masing kelompok 3cc, 6cc dan 9cc. Sebelum dan setelah mendapat perlakuan dilakukan pengukuran profil lipid. Hasil: Terdapat penurunan pada kolesterol total, trigliserida dan LDL pada kelompok perlakuan dengan dosis 6cc dan 9cc secara signifikan (p<0,05) dibandingkan dengan kontrol negatif. Kesimpulan: Pemberian ekstrak air daun ubi jalar ungu dapat memperbaiki profil lipid tikus dislipidemia.

Abstract

Background: The recent Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM) management by antibiotic Chloramphenicol 1% ear drop seems to be ineffective due to the bacterial resistance, ototoxic effects, and the idiosyncratic response. Traditional medicine from Hoya carnosa leaf as ear drops has been suggested for alternative medicine because of its antibacterial properties. This study aims to evaluate the inhibition test of Hoya carnosa leaf-extract towards gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria causeMethods: An experimental study with a completely randomized post-test control group design has been conducted to the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC), which consists of Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa dan Enterobacter spp. The Hoya carnosa leaf extract in-ear drop emulsion has been divided into 3 concentrations, such as 1%, 3%, and 5% w/v by simple random technique. As a positive control used Chloramphenicol 1% and as a negative control using 96% ethanol. Each treatment was repeated 5 times and data were analyzed by SPSS version 17 for Windows.Results: There was a significant difference in inhibitory diameter (IH) from ear drop dosage of (Hoya carnosa) leaf emulsions to Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria in concentrations of 3% and 5% (p<0.05). There was a significant difference from the inhibitory drug resistance (DDH) ear drop emulsion preparation leaf extract "tebel-tebel" (Hoya carnosa) concentrations of 1%, 3% and 5% with Cholrampenicol 1% against Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria (p<0.05)Conclusion: There was a significant difference in inhibitory diameter (DDH) and inhibitory drug resistance from Hoya carnosa leaf emulsions ear drops to Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria. Latar Belakang: Penatalaksanaan Otitis Media Supuratif Kronis (OMSK) saat ini dengan antibiotik Kloramfenikol tetes telinga 1% tampaknya tidak efektif karena adanya resistensi bakteri, efek ototoksik, dan respon idiosinkratik. Obat tradisional dari daun Hoya carnosa sebagai obat tetes telinga telah disarankan untuk pengobatan alternatif karena sifat antibakterinya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi uji daya hambat ekstrak daun Hoya carnosa terhadap bakteri penyebab gram positif dan gram negatifMetode: Telah dilakukan penelitian eksperimental dengan rancangan acak kelompok kontrol post-test pada American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) yang terdiri dari Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa dan Enterobacter spp. Ekstrak daun Hoya carnosa dalam emulsi tetes telinga dibagi menjadi 3 konsentrasi yaitu 1%, 3% dan 5% b / v dengan teknik acak sederhana. Sebagai kontrol positif digunakan Kloramfenikol 1% dan sebagai kontrol negatif menggunakan etanol 96%. Tiap perlakuan diulang sebanyak 5 kali dan data dianalisis dengan SPSS versi 17 untuk Windows.Hasil: Terdapat perbedaan bermakna dalam uji diameter daya hambat (DDH) antara dosis tetes telinga emulsi daun Hoya carnosa terhadap bakteri Streptococcus pyogenes pada konsentrasi 3% dan 5% (p <0,05). Ada perbedaan yang bermakna antara ekstrak daun “tebel-tebel” (Hoya carnosa) sediaan emulsi tetes telinga konsentrasi 1%, 3% dan 5% dengan Cholrampenicol 1% terhadap bakteri Streptococcus pyogenes (p <0,05).Kesimpulan: Ada perbedaan yang bermakna pada diameter hambat (DDH) dan resistensi obat penghambat emulsi daun Hoya carnosa tetes telinga terhadap bakteri Streptococcus pyogenes.

Abstract

Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an organism that is difficult to handle because it has the ability to resist various antibiotics. Two mechanisms have been studied regarding how Pseudomonas aeruginosa is resistant to both intrinsic and adaptive action of antibiotics. This study aims to determine the antibacterial effect of young and old soursop (Annona muricata L.) leaves ethanol extract against Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 9027.Methods: This study uses the True Experimental Control Group Design method. Samples were divided into 3 groups, namely the control group (K), the intervention group young soursop leaves (EDM) and old soursop leaves (EDT). The control group was divided into negative and positive controls and the intervention group was divided into three groups based on the dosage of using the ethanol extract of Annona muricata L leaves in each isolate with a concentration of 25 mg/mL, 50 mg/mL, and 100 mg/mL, respectively, in group of young and old soursop leaves. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20 for Windows.Results: The results of the Kruskal-Wallis test showed that there was a significant difference in the inhibition zone in the treatment group, namely the concentration of young and old soursop leaves ethanol extract (25%, 50%, 100%) against the inhibition zone of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria (P <0.05. ).Conclusion: The ethanol extract of young soursop (Annona muricata L.) leaves did not have the effect of inhibiting the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria in vitro. Besides that, the ethanol extract of old soursop (Annona muricata L.) leaves did not have the effect of inhibiting the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria in vitro. Latar Belakang: Pseudomonas aeruginosa  merupakan organisme yang sulit untuk ditangani karena memiliki kemampuan resistensi terhadap berbagai antibiotik.  Terdapat dua mekanisme yang telah dipelajari mengenai bagaimana Pseudomonas aeruginosa resisten terhadap kerja antibiotik baik intrinsik maupun adaptif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek antibakteri ekstrak etanol daun sirsak (Annona muricata L.) muda dan tua terhadap Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 9027.Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode True Experimental Control Group Design. Sampel dibagi dalam 3 kelompok yakni kelompok kontrol (K), kelompok intervensi daun sirsak muda (EDM) dan daun sirsak tua (EDT). Kelompok kontrol dibagi atas kontrol negatif dan positif serta kelompok intervensi dibagi atas tiga kelompok berdasarkan dosis penggunaan ekstrak etanol daun Annona muricata L. pada masing-masing isolat, dengan konsentrasi 25 mg/mL, 50 mg/mL, dan 100 mg/mL pada masing-masing kelompok daun sirsak muda dan tua. Data dianalisis dengan SPSS versi 20 untuk Windows.Hasil: Hasil uji Kruskal-Wallis yang dapat dilihat menunjukan terdapat perbedaan bermakna zona hambat pada kelompok perlakuan yaitu konsentrasi ekstrak etanol daun sirsak muda dan tua (25%, 50%, 100%) terhadap zona hambat bakteri Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P < 0,05).Kesimpulan: Ekstrak etanol daun sirsak (Annona muricata L.) muda tidak memiliki efek menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Pseudomonas aeruginosa secara in vitro. Disamping itu, ekstrak etanol daun sirsak (Annona muricata L.) tua tidak memiliki efek menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Pseudomonas aeruginosa secara in vitro.

Abstract

Background: Xanthine oxidase (XO) is an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of xanthine to uric acid. Hyperuricemia is a condition in which uric acid levels in the blood are > 6.8 mg/dL. Hyperuricemia is managed by administering uric acid-lowering drugs that work by inhibiting the activity of XO. Allopurinol, as the first-line drug, has several side effects. Flavonoids and betalains have been shown in numerous studies to have the ability to inhibit XO. The purpose of this study is to examine the ethanol extract of red beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) with its flavonoids and betalains content in inhibiting the activity of XO. Methods: This study was an in-vitro experimental study using UV-Vis spectrophotometry (ë 285 nm). Red beetroot was extracted with 96% ethanol solvent using the maceration method. Allopurinol was used in this study as a positive control. This study was carried out in triplicates, with a test sample consisting of 5 different concentrations. The results of this study were analyzed using the Kruskal Wallis.Results: The ethanol extract of red beetroot inhibits XO enzymatic activity (55.11%) at 1000 ?g/ml. There was a statistical difference between the control group, the ethanol extract of red beetroot group, and the allopurinol group in the inhibition of XO enzyme activity (p= 0.001).Conclusion: The ethanol extract of red beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) can inhibit xanthine oxidase (XO).

Abstract

Fatigue is a process of decreasing tolerance to physical activities. Metabolism burns energy where it breaks down carbohydrates to become lactic acid which results in fatigue. There are many ways to treat fatigue, such as sports massage. This research will guide the effect of sports massage on decreasing fatigue of Indonesia’s water ski athletes. Research method Treatment by Subject Design. The population of this study were all Indonesian athletes in overall water skiing who were still active in 2019. The subjects of the study were 18 Indonesian athletes of overall water skiing and divided into two different treatment periods. Period 1 was given sports massage treatment and Period 2 was given active rest treatment, between treatments was given a break for 3 days, so the research lasted for 5 days. Lactic acid measurement is measured by taking a blood sample and measured using an accurted lactate tool. Based on the test result, we find that the mean of lactic acid levels before sport massage and after active rest. When viewed from the average difference before and after sport massage treatment can be concluded that the sport massage treatment is more effective in reducing levels of lactic acid compared to active rest. Sport massage and active rest can both reduce levels of lactic acid, but sport massage is more effective than active rest. The suggestion in this study is that the trainers are expected to be able to provide a good recovery method after the athlete has done the exercise.

Abstract

Latar Bekalang : Energi diperlukan dalam segala jenis aktivitas salah satunya adalah aktivitas aerobik. Aerobik membutuhkan pasokan energi secara terus-menerus untuk menghindari hipoglikemia. Asupan makanan dengan nilai indeks glikemik rendah diduga berpengaruh positif dalam mempertahankan performa aktivitas aerobik. Tiwul singkong yang merupakan makanan asli Indonesia diketahui memiliki nilai indeks glikemik rendah. Tujuan : Membuktikan bahwa pemberian asupan tiwul singkong sebelum aktivitas lebih meningkatkan performa aktivitas aerobik ergocycling pria dewasa yang tidak terlatih daripada pemberian asupan roti tawar putih. Metode Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental menggunakan Treatment by Subject Design. Sembilan subjek menerima dua intervensi yang berbeda yaitu pemberian asupan tiwul singkong dan pemberian asupan roti tawar putih dengan jeda waktu antar kedua intervensi (wash out period) selama 7 hari. Setelah mengonsumsi asupan makanan, subjek menjalani kegiatan berupa aktivitas aerobik ergocycling hingga subjek menyatakan tidak dapat melanjutkan aktivitas (exhaustion). Hasil : Rerata durasi bersepeda maksimal pada intervensi pemberian asupan tiwul singkong adalah 93,7±30,114 menit sedangkan pada pemberian asupan roti tawar putih hanya 58,09±21,066 menit (ρ=0,001). Rerata jarak bersepeda maksimal yang mampu ditempuh pada intervensi pemberian asupan tiwul singkong adalah 30,85±12,042 km sedangkan pada pemberian asupan roti tawar putih hanya 18,69±6,837 km (ρ=0,001). Simpulan : Mengonsumsi tiwul singkong sebelum aktivitas lebih meningkatkan aktivitas aerobik ergocycling dibandingkan dengan mengonsumsi roti tawar putih baik dari segi durasi maupun jarak yang mampu ditempuh pada pria dewasa yang tidak terlatih.Kata kunci : Performa, Ergocycling, Tiwul Singkong, Roti  Tawar Putih.

Abstract

Temulawak is one of medicinal plants which possess antibacterial activity against two major causes of infection in acne namely Staphylococcus epidermidis and Propionibacterium acnes. The active compounds of temulawak are curcumin and xanthorrhizol essential oil, which possess antibacterial activity as antiseptic and antibiotic. Sambiloto (known as Andrographis paniculate), contains active compound andrographolide, which is also assumed to possess antibacterial activity. This community program was the implementation of our research for community wellbeing, which aimed to raise the knowledge and skill of PKK women at Mambang village, Selemadeg Timur, Tabanan especially in producing liquid and solid soap from natural substances (temulawak and sambiloto extract). The program was conducted by visiting our partner company PT Bali Tangi and training for liquid and solid soap production from temulawak and sambiloto (as one form of temulawak and sambiloto utilization for skin health especially for acne management). We assess participant knowledge improvement by using questionaire before and after conducting the activity. There was an improvement in participant knowledge regarding the production of soap from natural substances (temulawak and sambiloto). In conclusion, this program had increase the knowledge and skill of PKK women at Mambang village regarding liquid and solid soap production from natural substances. Abstract

Background: Recent developments in tablet preparation of extract have brought advantages to keep active ingredients from plants in stable forms physically and chemically. This study aims to compare the liquid and tablet preparation of purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) extract to lipid profile, MDA, and SOD level in rats after given high-cholesterol diet. Methods: A randomized pre- and post-test control group experimental study was conducted during 4 weeks among 21 male Wistar rats. They were divided into 3 groups in this study namely: control (only high-cholesterol diet), Treatment 1 (T1) group (high-cholesterol diet and 200mg/day tablet of purple sweet potato extract), and Treatment 2 (T2) group (high-cholesterol diet and liquid form of purple sweet potato tubers extract about 2 mL/day). Lipid profile, MDA, and SOD level examination were performed twice from retro orbital sinus blood drawn and analyzed using ANOVA in SPSS version 17.Results: Mean value of lipid profile was significantly lower in T2 group (Cholesterol 84.48 ± 3.38; LDL 23.05 ± 2.32; HDL 63.39 ± 1.56; and triglycerides 96.03 ± 3.82; P < 0.05) after study period. The mean value of MDA was also significantly lower in T2 group (1.25 ± 0.09; P < 0.05) and SOD level was significantly higher in T2 group (73.72 ± 4.14; P < 0.05) in the end of study. Conclusion: Liquid preparation of purple sweet potato extract showed a better efficacy in reducing lipid profile and MDA level, as well as enhancing SOD level in rats given high-cholesterol diet.Keywords: Lipid Profile, Liquid, MDA and SOD Level, Purple Sweet Potato, Tablet.

Abstract

Mahogany seeds have been used in the community as an antihypertensive and antioxidant. Antihypertensive and antioxidant efficacy of mature mahogany seeds has been proven in hypertensive rats. The purpose of this study was to compare the antihypertensive and antioxidant effect of mature mahogany seeds extract with young mahogany seeds extract. This study is a laboratory experimental design with pre-test and post-test design control groups, with Wistar rats as samples. Thirty rats were divided into 5 groups, each group consist of 6 rats. The control group was given saline every day as a rat model of hypertension. 1-4 treatment groups were each given NaCl and water extract of young mahogany seeds for treatment 1, the ethanol extract of young mahogany seeds as treatment 2, water extract of mature mahogany seeds as treatment 3 and ethanol extract of mature mahogany seeds as treatments 4. Dosages of extract mahogany seeds is 100 mg / head / day for 4 weeks. Before treatment, evaluation of rat blood pressure with special sphygmomanometer was held, and examination of blood MDA as a pre-test data. Further evaluation of MDA and SOD blood pressure are at the end of the study. The data were tested by ANOVA to see the difference between the groups. The results showed a decrease in blood pressure and levels of MDA were significant in all treatments (p <0.05) compared with control as well as an increase in SOD were significantly (p <0.05). The ethanol extract of mature mahogany seeds showed the most excellent antihypertensive and antioxidant properties (p <0.05). From these results, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of mature mahogany seeds is better than young mahogany seeds extract as an antihypertensive and antioxidant in hypertensive rats.Keywords – antioxidants, hypertensive rats, mature and young mahogany seeds

Abstract

Aqueous extract of purple sweet potato tubers have antioxidant potential in animal and human vascular endothelial, through increased expression of superoxide dismutase. This study aims to prove the comparison between ethanol extract and aqueous extract of purple sweet potato tubers increasing the expression of superoxide dismutase -2, superoxide dismutase -3, and endothelial nitric oxide synthase in human vascular endothelium. This study was an experimental study of the vascular endothelial cells which underwent oxidative stress in vitro, which is protected by ethanol extract or aqueous extract of purple sweet potato tuber at various concentrations. Observation of the superoxide dismutase -2, superoxide dismutase -3, and endothelial nitric oxide synthase in endothelial cells is done using the method immunohistochemistry with monoclonal antibodies. The results showed an increase in superoxide dismutase - 2, superoxide dismutase -3, and endothelial nitric oxide synthase was significantly (p < 0.05) in endothelium protected by ethanol extract or water extract of purple sweet potato tubers. The ethanol extract only showed its effect at concentration of 1.5625 µg/ml for superoxide dismutase -2 and superoxide dismutase -3. The effect of aqueous extract were at a concentration of 1.5625–3.125µg/ml. From these results it can be concluded that the ethanol extract or aqueous extract of purple sweet potato tubers can protect endothelial cells from oxidative stress through increased expression of superoxide dismutase -2 and superoxide dismutase -3. The ethanol extract requires much lower concentrations to show its effect compared with aqueous extracts. Keywords: Aqueous extract or ethanol  extract of purple sweet potato, Superoxide dismutase, Human umbilical vein endothelial cells.
