Abstract

College students are those people who educate themselves in university, that makes them have more knowledge than other students. But unfortunately, the more knowledge they have, the more they like to brag about themselves. Many people with higher education degree tend to brag about themselves to others in order to get appreciation, acknowledgement and respect. Those behaviors are against Islamic value that teaches us to be humble to others. This humility is called tawadhu’ in Islam. The purpose of this research is to find out the effect of religiousity and emotional intelligence to tawadhu’ in post-graduate students of UII. The subject of this research are 117 post-graduate students of UII. Based on double-regression in SPSS version 16, there is a correlation between religiousity and emotional intelligence to tawadhu’ with signification value of 0,000 (p<0,05) and F score of 14,294.

Abstract

The family is the most critical environment in early adolescent development. Every parent's parenting style in educating their children is unique. Cruel parenting and lack of warmth between parents and children or also known as US authoritarian parenting is one of the most dominant forms of parenting that can affect adolescent attitudes. This study aims to determine the relationship between adolescent aggressive behavior and perceptions of authoritarian parenting. This study uses a quantitative method with a correlational approach. Respondents in this study were aged between 15 to 21 years and still lived at home with their parents. The number of respondents in this study were 105 respondents. The sampling technique used is probability sampling technique. Data collection is done by filling out a questionnaire. Data were analyzed with Pearson Correlation Product moment. The results showed that respondents limited aggressive behavior to a very high percentage of 58.1% (61 people). While authoritarian parenting was experienced by 44.8% (47 people), it was also experienced at a very high level of 46.7% (49 people). The results of product moment analysis obtained a value of p = 0.000 (p <0.05) with a correlation coefficient of 0.892 which indicates a high close relationship.

Abstract

Informal caregivers are usually uncertain about the recovery and life expectancy improvement of schizophrenic patients.  This study aimed to determine Quran recitation listening therapy's effectiveness in increasing optimism in schizophrenia informal caregivers. Optimism was measured using the Life Orientation Test-Revision (LOT-R) developed by Scheier, Carver, and Bridges. Quran recitation listening therapy was conducted using the tartil method. The Qori’ recited surah Ar-Rahman with and without interpretation for experimental groups 1 and 2 comprising informal caregivers. Furthermore, hypotheses were tested quantitatively with the Wilcoxon analysis technique to determine the effect of the Quran recitation listening therapy on optimism. The results showed that Quran recitation listening therapy with and without interpretation effectively increased informal caregivers' optimism. The finding justified the theory that Islamic religious intervention in the Quran recitation listening therapy with and without interpretation effectively increases optimism

The number of participants was eight chronic renal failure patients that are undergoing hemodialysis for less than 1 year to 1,5 years. The participants were divided into two groups, which were experiment and control groups in which each group consist of four members. This study was conducted using the experimental design with the measurements prior to and after the training, and also the follow-up that was done two weeks after the training. The training has lasted three sessions (380 minutes). The level of anxiety was measured using the scale of DASS (Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale). Abstract

Volunteers participate in charitable activities sincerely without any certain expectations. Concerning this volunteerism, this study aims to investigate the influence of character strength on happiness in environmental and educational volunteers. Employing Seligman's happiness scale as a measurement instrument (α = 0.615) and Peterson and Seligman's (α = 0. 976) Value in Action - Inventory of Strength (VIA-IS) as a measurement instrument to determine character strength, 99 volunteers working in environmental and educational fields of voluntary organizations were recruited. The inclusion criteria for recruiting these participants included male or female participants over 18 years old, active at the organizations for at least six months, unmarried, and living in Yogyakarta. All obtained data were analyzed by using a Spearman correlation analysis technique and a regression analysis technique. The results of this study showed that some of the most influential types of character strength on happiness were leadership (r = 0.354, p = 0.000), appreciation of beauty and excellence (r = 0.337, p = 0.001), gratitude (r = 0.311, p = 0.002), forgiveness (r = 0.305, p = 0.002), and open-mindedness (r = 0.301, p = 0.002). In addition, types of character strength significantly influencing happiness are closely related to collectivistic culture.

Abstract

This paper highlights the importance of learning motivation and critical thinking skills to an EFL learner. Apart from gaining language ability in speaking, reading, listening, and writing, an EFL learner must also be equipped with other factors or skills to succeed. Hence, this study aimed to determine how much learning motivation correlates with critical thinking skills amongst tertiary English Language Education Department students at Universitas Islam Indonesia. By deploying a purposive sampling technique, 50 participants were involved in this study. It comprises 16 male students (32%) and 34 female students (68%). Critical thinking and learning motivation questionnaires were utilized to garner the data, and the data were further analyzed using the product-moment correlation. This study also utilizes in-depth interviews to gain more perspective on critical thinking, learning motivation, and how it shapes behavior. The results demonstrated that learning motivation positively and significantly correlated with critical thinking skills. Across varied levels, contexts, and periods, the current study confirmed the persistent theory concerning the correlation between learning motivation and critical thinking, as prior related studies already demonstrated. Further studies are called to be conducted by engaging a more significant number of samples to reveal broader insights
