The aim of the activity is to provide an in-depth understanding of forest betel cultivation techniques and post-harvest for making botanical insecticides. Train participants in the process of cultivating, harvesting and processing forest betel effectively to produce quality raw materials. Introducing the latest technology in forest betel cultivation and processing to increase efficiency and yield. Providing an environmentally friendly alternative for pest control through forest betel-based botanical insecticides. The activity method used is the delivery of material regarding the theory of forest betel cultivation, post-harvest processes, and making botanical insecticides through lecture sessions. The result of this activity is that participants gain practical skills in cultivating forest betel and the process of making botanical insecticides. Participants understand the importance of forest betel in making insecticides and the optimal way to process it. The conclusion that can be obtained from this activity is that the use of forest betel as a raw material for botanical insecticides provides an environmentally friendly alternative for pest control. Continued efforts are needed for the development of cultivation techniques, as well as further research into the effectiveness and market acceptance of forest betel-based botanical insecticides.

Abstract

Literacy comic-based packaging for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Nagari Sikabu Bukik, Lubuk Alung, Padang Pariaman, West Sumatra, was developed to overcome the low competitiveness of local products due to unattractive and uninformative packaging designs. The main problem faced is the lack of skills in designing effective packaging to increase the selling value and strengthen the brand identity of local products. The purpose of this activity is to increase the capacity of MSMEs, especially those incorporated in the Saiyo Sakato Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMNag), in designing attractive, educational, and competitive product packaging. This activity involved 46 participants, including BUMNag administrators and MSMEs engaged in local food production, such as cookies and traditional foods. The methods used included socialization, tutorials on literacy comic-based packaging design techniques, and hands-on practice sessions using the Canva Pro platform. The training began with an explanation of the concept of literacy comic-based packaging design, continued with technical guidance on making designs, and ended with independent practice by participants. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' skills in creating innovative and functional packaging. This literacy comic-based packaging is not only visually appealing but also able to convey educational messages to consumers. In addition, the handover of Canva Pro access to Nagari Sikabu Bukik is a sustainable step to support independent design development. Training in designing literacy comic-based packaging designs has succeeded in improving the quality of MSME product packaging, strengthening brand identity, and expanding the marketing potential of local products.

Abstract

Nagari Sikabu, located in Padang Pariaman Regency, is an agrarian area with strong potential in corn production as its leading agricultural commodity. However, the utilization of corn has largely been limited to sales in raw form, resulting in relatively low economic value for the local community. This condition indicates a gap between abundant natural resources and the community’s capacity to transform them into value added products. Therefore, this community service program was designed to empower local residents through a sustainable business incubation model for corn based products using a participatory approach. The methods applied included field observations, participatory interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and SWOT analysis to map the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in developing processed corn products. The results identified that derivative products such as corn chips, corn emping, and corn brownies have strong prospects to become local flagship products. Training sessions and workshops successfully improved community skills by 42%, particularly in food processing techniques, packaging, pricing, and digital marketing. Furthermore, the program facilitated the establishment of a Community Business Group (Kelompok Usaha Bersama/KUB) as an institutional platform for collective business development and local economic strengthening. In conclusion, the corn based business incubation program proved effective in enhancing community capacity, strengthening business institutions, and opening new entrepreneurial opportunities in Nagari Sikabu. For sustainability, continuous assistance is required in product legalization, innovative packaging technology, and integration with digital marketing channels so that processed corn products can penetrate wider markets and contribute to local economic independence.
