Abstract

This study addresses the underexplored global patterns in research on Islam and morality, which has been fragmented across various academic disciplines. The central problem lies in the absence of a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the existing literature, leaving gaps in understanding the volume, thematic distribution, and geographical trends in the field. The objective of this research is to systematically map the academic output on Islam and morality by employing a bibliometric approach, focusing on the publications indexed in Scopus between 2015 and 2025. The methodology involves three stages: a literature review, a database search for relevant articles, and an in-depth analysis of publication trends, authorship, and thematic connections using tools like RStudio and VOSviewer. The findings indicate a substantial increase in research output from 2015 to 2024, with a notable peak in 2024, signaling a growing interest in the subject. Key thematic areas that emerged from the network analysis include morality, Islamic law, ethics, and gender, demonstrating the interdisciplinary nature of the field. The study also highlights a dominance of certain countries like Indonesia, the United States, and Turkey in contributing to the literature. The results suggest that Islam and morality are gaining importance not only in religious studies but also in bioethics, social sciences, and gender studies. The implications of this research stress the need for further exploration of underrepresented topics, such as sustainability and bureaucracy, and call for increased global collaboration to bridge knowledge gaps.

Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe strategies and methods aimed at improving the quality of Islamic Religious Education learning at MTs Muhammadiyah Kudus. This study applies a qualitative approach through the use of observation, documentation, and interviews with three Islamic Religious Education teachers. The findings of the research show that the approaches applied to improve the quality of the learning process include objectives that focus on character development, the creation of contextual materials such as memorization of verses from the Qur'an and Hadith, worship practices, and interactive methods such as Index Card Match (ICM) and playing videos on Islamic history. Teachers act as role models and mentors, while students actively participate in learning and worship activities. Religious character building is carried out through the habit of performing congregational prayers, reading the Qur'an, reciting Asmaul Husna, and fasting on Mondays and Thursdays. The obstacles faced include limited facilities, diversity of teaching methods, and decreased motivation to learn. Overall, the strategies implemented by PAI teachers reflect the madrasah's vision of shaping students who are knowledgeable in science, noble in character, and excellent in achievement.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI), particularly Islamic History (Tarikh Islam), is often delivered through textual and teacher-centered approaches that may limit student engagement and religious literacy development. This study aims to design and develop an interactive learning media prototype, namely the RELIGI BOARD, which integrates gamification and Augmented Reality (AR) to support Islamic History learning at the junior high school level. The research employed a Research and Development approach, adopting the first three stages of the ADDIE model: Analysis, Design, and Development. Data were collected through needs analysis interviews with teachers and analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods to examine the design feasibility and theoretical foundation of the media. The results indicate that the RELIGI BOARD prototype is functionally and structurally feasible as an interactive learning medium. The integration of board game mechanics with AR-based visualizations supports the presentation of abstract historical concepts in a more concrete and engaging form. From a theoretical perspective, the convergence of gamification principles and AR technology offers a potential solution to motivational and cognitive challenges in Islamic History learning. Although limited to the prototype development stage, this study suggests that the RELIGI BOARD has potential as an innovative learning media to support religious literacy in Islamic Education.

Abstract

Qur’anic reading and writing skills remain a challenge for junior secondary school students with diverse religious backgrounds. This study examines the implementation of extracurricular-based Islamic Religious Education learning methods for Qur’anic reading and writing at SMP Negeri 2 Lasem, a public junior high school in Central Java, Indonesia. The study aims to identify the learning methods applied and their contribution to improving students’ Qur’anic literacy skills. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed through classroom observations, interviews with Islamic Religious Education teachers, extracurricular instructors, and seventh-grade students, as well as documentation analysis. The findings show that Qur’anic Reading and Writing extracurricular activities function as supportive learning spaces beyond formal classroom instruction. Lecture methods introduce basic tajwid and letter articulation, while discussion and question-and-answer methods facilitate interactive correction of reading errors. Guided practice emerged as the most effective approach for improving reading accuracy and fluency. Despite challenges such as limited time, varied student abilities, and inconsistent motivation, the integrated use of these methods contributed to improvements in students’ Qur’anic reading competence and religious character development. The study concludes that extracurricular-based Islamic Religious Education learning offers a practical model for enhancing Qur’anic literacy in public secondary schools.

Abstract

This study explores the strategies employed by Islamic Religious Education teachers in responding to the challenges of modernity at SMPIT Al-Uswah Magetan, an integrated Islamic junior high school in Indonesia. The study was conducted in the context of increasing exposure to digital technology, globalization, and social change that influence students’ learning behavior and religious character. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with Islamic Religious Education teachers and the school principal, classroom observations, and document analysis. The findings show that teachers apply several empirically observed strategies, including regulating students’ use of digital devices during school hours, strengthening religious literacy through Qur’an reading and discussion activities, providing regular spiritual guidance through worship practices, maintaining collaboration with parents and external institutions, and demonstrating exemplary behavior in daily interactions. The study also identifies supporting factors such as a religious school environment, leadership support, and teacher commitment, as well as constraints including social media influence, limited parental involvement, and diverse student backgrounds. These findings indicate how Islamic Religious Education teachers adapt instructional and character-building practices to maintain Islamic values within a modern educational setting.
