Abstract

Cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) is the ability of the circulatory and respiratory systems to supply oxygen during sustained physical activity. One of the factors that affect cardiorespiratory fitness is sedentary behavior and lifestyle. One indicator of sedentary behavior is screen time (ST). The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between ST and CRF. This cross-sectional study obtained primary data from 92 students of the Medical Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Mulawarman University who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Screen Time Questionnaire (STQ) instrument was used for collecting ST data and Queens College 3-Minute Step Test for CRF. Data analysis was done using Spearman’s correlation test. The results showed that the majority of respondents were 20 years old (39.1%), female (57.6%), with normal body mass index (60.9%). The average daily screen time is 6.00-22.17 hours per day with a median value of 10.60 hours per day. The most frequent CRF group was moderate (46.7%). The relationship between ST and CRF showed p value of 0.250 (p>0.05). Therefore, it is concluded that there was no relationship found between ST and CRF in Mulawarman University Medical Students.

Abstract

Background : Ameloblastoma and odontogenic cysts have similar clinical and radiographic features but different treatments. Diagnosis is established by histologic features, but sometimes this step have difficulty making appropriate assessment because epithelial cells can show various variations. Preoperative misdiagnosis may result in inefficient treatment. In such situations, immunohistochemistry (IHC) with the use of proper markers might be needed for the differentiation of these lesions. Purpose : This study aimed to assess calretinin expression in ameloblastoma and various odontogenic cysts so that calretinin can be used as a specific diagnostic marker for ameloblastoma. Method : This was a retrospective analytical study of immunohistochemical examination of calretinin expression in ameloblastoma and odontogenic cysts. A total of eighty cases, in which thirty four cases of ameloblastoma and forty six cases of odontogenic cysts were included in the study. Slides were made from the paraffin blocks of each case and were stained immunohistochemically with calretinin. Results : In ameloblastoma, almost all subjects expressed calretinin, i.e. 33 (97.1%), followed by radicular cyst 7 (46.7%), odontogenic cyst 2 (40.0%), then dentigerous cyst 6 (26.1%) and OKC 0 (0.0%). The results of the analysis of the Chi-Square test showed a significant difference with a p-value < 0.001. Conclusion : The study concluded that calretinin was mainly expressed in ameloblastoma, whereas majority of  odontogenic cyst groups showed negative for calretinin in various percentages. Calretinin may be a specific immunohistochemical marker for ameloblastoma. Keywords : Ameloblastoma, Calretinin, Immunohistochemical, Odontogenic cyst, Odontogenic tumor

Abstract

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a disease caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). Due to the severity and transmission of SARS-CoV-2, exploration of risk factors for mortality in COVID-19 patients as early as possible becomes very important for appropriate actions and interventions and to improve the cure and quality of prognosis of COVID-19 patients. This study aimed to determine association of NLR and D-dimer with COVID-19 patient mortality. An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional study approached using 90 data from medical records of adult COVID-19 patients who were hospitalized at Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie Hospital Samarinda from July to December 2021. Statistical analysis using Spearman’s correlation, p <0,05 was significant. The results showed male patients = 51 and female patients = 39. The mean age of survived patients = 52 years and deceased patients = 50 years. Median neutrophil count of survived patients = 5.5 x 103/μl and deceased patients = 6.95 x 103/μl. Median lymphocyte count of survived patients = 1.11 x 103/μl and deceased patients = 1.03 x 103/μl. Median NLR of survived patients = 4.99 and deceased patients = 6.14. The median of D-dimer level of survived patients = 1.08 μg/ml and deceased patients = 1.83 μg/ml. The association of NLR with COVID-19 mortality showed p = 0.031; r = 0.228. The association of D-dimer levels with COVID-19 mortality showed p < 0.001; r = 0.416. It was concluded that NLR and D-dimer levels each had a significant relationship with mortality in COVID-19 patients.
