Abstract

Folktales about water sources in Klaten have not been widely accessed, causing values related to environmental conservation and water sustainability to be insufficiently conveyed. The purpose of this research is to inquire into the ecological knowledge contained in Klaten folktales about water sources and how they might be used to teach Indonesian language skills to junior high school students. This study takes an ethnographic approach to its qualitative descriptive methodology. Water sources and associated folktales were the focus of the research in six subdistricts of Klaten. Using purposive and snowball sampling approaches, data was collected from a variety of sources, including village leaders, cultural figures, local citizens, and relevant authorities. Triangulation of methods and sources was used to verify the data collected from in-depth interviews. An interactive model was used for data analysis. A number of ecological wisdom principles, including cosmic solidarity, concern for nature, environmental preservation, justice, and moral integrity, are included in the folktales, according to the research. The dominant ecological wisdom value is the principle of living simply and in harmony with nature, as manifested in the story of Roro Amis, who sailed on a banana trunk, and Prince Sidotopo, who played the traditional game nglarak blarak.

Abstract

Lake Rayo in West Sulawesi, Indonesia, has been proposed as a potential meteorite impact structure, yet direct evidence supporting this origin remains limited. This study aims to provide a preliminary stratigraphic and granulometric characterization of Lake Rayo’s basin fill to clarify its genesis and support its geoheritage significance. Core sediment samples were collected from the basin floor and analyzed for grain size distribution, color (Munsell system), texture, and crack morphology using standard laboratory techniques. Seven stratigraphic intervals (BR1–BR7) were identified, showing clear vertical variations in granulometric parameters, sorting, and sediment color. Distinct fragmentation horizons, changes in color, and the occurrence of bedding cracks were interpreted as possible signatures of high-energy events, potentially associated with a meteorite impact. Comparative analysis with established impact structures, such as Lonar and Ries, revealed similar sedimentological features, supporting the impact hypothesis. These findings provide initial scientific evidence for the classification of Lake Rayo as an impact-related geoheritage site in Indonesia. The study also highlights the importance of integrating sedimentological data with future multidisciplinary research—such as geochemical and mineralogical shock analysis—to substantiate the impact origin more robustly. Overall, the results contribute valuable insights for geoheritage conservation, geoeducation, and the broader understanding of rare impact structures in Southeast Asia.

Abstract

This study assesses the geosite potential of two emerging geotourism locations Rayo Lake and Sosokan Waterfall in North Musi Rawas Regency using the Modified Geosite Assessment Method (M-GAM). The research aims to address the limited empirical application of M-GAM in developing geotourism regions of Indonesia, thereby filling an important methodological and regional gap. The assessment incorporates expert and visitor perceptions to evaluate Main Values (MV) and Additional Values (AV) across geological, educational, and touristic criteria. Field surveys and questionnaire-based evaluations were conducted with 22 experts and 55 visitors. The results show that Rayo Lake attained a high MV score and a moderate AV score, placing it in quadrant Z33, indicating strong geological significance supported by adequate visitor-related attributes. In contrast, Sosokan Waterfall was positioned in quadrant Z22, reflecting moderate performance in both MV and AV categories, primarily constrained by limited infrastructure and accessibility. These findings confirm that geological attributes alone are insufficient to elevate geosite readiness without parallel development of visitor-oriented facilities. The study’s novelty lies in providing the first M-GAM-based comparative assessment for geosites in North Musi Rawas, offering actionable insights for regional planning. Strengthening infrastructure, interpretive media, and accessibility is recommended to optimize geotourism development strategies.

Abstract

The Sawahtambang Formation in Sijunjung Regency, West Sumatra, is primarily composed of thick sandstones, which are of significant interest due to their potential as oil and gas reservoirs. However, the mineralogical and petrographic characteristics, as well as the depositional and tectonic origins of these sandstones, remain poorly understood, particularly in relation to the tectonic processes that influenced their formation. This knowledge gap poses challenges for accurate geological interpretation and resource assessment. The objective of this study is to investigate the mineral composition, petrographic properties, and provenance of the sandstones from the Sawahtambang Formation. The methodology employed includes petrographic analysis and provenance studies. The results of the provenance analysis indicate that the sandstones are derived from a Recycled Orogen source, suggesting that they were primarily formed in collision or subduction zones. This tectonic setting is characterized by a low feldspar and volcanic lithic content and a higher quartz content. The findings of this study contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the geological information and origin of the Sawahtambang Formation sandstones in West Sumatra

Abstract

Abstract

Morphology learning in higher education is important to improve students' understanding in determining words and correct word formation. This study aims to describe the application of Project-based learning in morphology learning, material on morphological and morphophonemic processes in texts. The method used is descriptive qualitative which combines classroom observation methods and document analysis of learning outcomes. The research participants were 15 students from the Indonesian Language Education Study Program, Universitas PGRI Adi Buana Surabaya, class of 2024, selected through a purposive sampling method. The project type was to identify morphological and morphophonemic processes in texts. The assessment used was a scored process assessment with criteria. The results of the study indicate that student learning outcomes using Project-Based Learning (PjBL) are successful, this can be seen in the student's score. The use of Project-Based Learning is effective in this learning because students will contribute to each other in analyzing texts that undergo morphological and morphophonemic processes. Based on these findings, it can be suggested that the use of Project-Based Learning is effective but does not rule out the possibility of using more diverse, interactive, and fun methods. The results of this study provide an important contribution in improving learning outcomes using Project-Based Learning (PjBL).

Abstract

Abstract

Samigaluh District and its surrounding areas, Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, form part of the Kulon Progo Mountains, which lie within the eastern segment of the Southern Serayu Mountains zone. This region exhibits complex geomorphological conditions resulting from the interaction of tectonic activity, volcanism, and ongoing denudational processes. This study aims to provide knowledge and benefits for relevant stakeholders and readers, thereby supporting related scientific fields and areas of expertise. The research method involved field observations combined with analyses using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data. Geomorphological characteristics were analyzed by correlating drainage patterns, slope gradients, and lithological units to identify landform features within the study area. The results indicate that the geomorphic units in the Samigaluh area consist of Volcanic Denudational High Hills, representing remnants of ancient volcanic edifices that have undergone prolonged weathering and erosion over geological timescales; Intrusive Hills, formed by the intrusion of igneous rocks into surrounding strata and subsequently exposed by erosion; and Karst High Hills, which developed predominantly through carbonate dissolution processes. The diversity of these geomorphic units reflects the strong influence of geological dynamics on the landscape evolution of the study area.

Abstract

Sequence stratigraphy involves studying a series of rock layers deposited during a full change cycle in accommodation or sediment supply, bounded by subaerial unconformities and marine correlative conformities. This study aims to identify the stratigraphic sequence that controls the coal accumulation models and their influence on the coal geometry. The research methodology includes geological mapping, analysis of geophysical logs (gamma-ray and short density), and core log analysis. The data were analyzed, combined, interpreted, and simulated to create a model of coal accumulation and geometry. The M2 Member of the Muara Enim Formation comprises six lithofacies, as determined by analyzing four drill holes. The M2 Member of the Muara Enim Formation exhibits four depositional environments (crevasse splay, mire/swamp, mudflat, lagoon, and tidal/mouth/distal bar) and three facies associated with the fluvial delta–tidal plain facies (fluvial dominated upper delta plain, tide-dominated lower delta plain,  and marginal tidal plain and lagoon). This research identified four system tracts, namely TST-1, HST-1, TST-2, and HST-2. TST-1 and TST-2 show continuous coal deposition, inclined to steeply inclined, interspersed, and characterized by the presence of three layers of clay bands. Similarly, HST-1 and HST-2 exhibit continuous coal deposition with gentle to steep inclined and interspersed, ranging from moderately thick to very thick, and containing one to five layers of clay bands. The tectonic activity after deposition caused the deposited coal to deform. The findings of this study contributed to guiding the exploration of coal seams in the South Sumatra Basin and Muara Enim Formation, in particular.
