Abstract

Psychological factors are important factors in sports achievement. Psychological training programs in sports have been used in various fields to improve skills. This study uses survey with a test and measurement approach, a type of quantitative descriptive research. The subjects of this study were 8 rock climbing athletes. The instruments used were concentration, anxiety, and confidence. The results of the analysis obtained from the calculation of the psychological profile of the NTB rock climbing athletes are concentration with an average of 10.87, anxiety with an average of 19.50, motivation with an average of 115.87, and confidence with an average of 120.50. The weakest psychological indicator was concentration, while anxiety and self-confidence were average indicators. On the other hand, motivation was a strong point and was categorised as good. There were several limitations to consider in this study. First, this study focused on four psychological factors, namely concentration, anxiety, motivation, and self-confidence, while potentially neglecting other significant aspects of the psychological profile of the athlete. Second, there were only nine participants in the sample, limiting the generalizability of the results. Future research should surmount these limitations by incorporating a broader range of psychological factors and increasing the sample size to produce more exhaustive and representative results. The findings of this study highlight the significance of continuous mental training to enhance the performance of rock climbers. In addition, this study provides practitioners and researchers with a valuable resource for addressing issues related to an athlete's psychological well-being.

Abstract

Background: Engagement and sports success are two important aspects for young athletes in various sports including table tennis, but there is still limited research reporting on factors that can influence these two aspects. Objectives: This study investigates the relationship between coach support and exercise habits with engagement and sports success among young table tennis athletes. Methods: This study adopted a correlational research method to reveal the relationship between each variable. Participants included young table tennis athletes (n = 50), who were assigned to complete questionnaires on coach support, exercise habits, engagement, and sports success. Finding/Results: The study results are as follows. First, a strong positive correlation was observed ranging from r = 0.72* to r = 0.95*, indicating that higher levels of perceived coach support are associated with greater engagement. Meanwhile, correlations ranged from from r = 0.48* to r = 0.87*, indicating a moderate to strong relationship between coach support and sports success. Second, a significant correlation was found, ranging from r = 0.45* to r = 0.92*, demonstrating that consistent exercise habits contribute to higher engagement. Meanwhile, correlations ranged from r = 0.45* to r = 0.87*, indicating a moderate to strong relationship between exercise habits with sports sports. Conclusion:  The results highlight the importance of coach support and exercise habits in fostering engagement and enhancing sports success among young table tennis athletes. A limitation of our study is the relatively small number of participants, consisting only of young table tennis athletes. Therefore, we recommend that future research include participants from other sports, such as tennis, badminton, or sepak takraw.

Abstract

Background: Motor tasks (MT) and team performance (TP) are important aspects for young basketball athletes. However, empirical evidence examining the mediating role of specific motor tasks in the relationship between coach–athlete relationships and team performance among youth basketball athletes remains limited. Objectives: Thus, our current study aims to investigate how CAR is related to MT and TP and how MT mediates TP. Methods: Our current study employed a cross-sectional design. We also recruited 180 young basketball players. The Coach-Athlete Relationship Questionnaire (CAR) was used to measure performance. This study employed Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) analysis. Results: We observed that CAR was significantly related to MT (β = 0.68, p < 0.001) and TP (β = 0.45, p < 0.001). In addition, we observed that MT mediated the effect directly with TP (β = 0.52, p < 0.001). Conclusion: We conclude in our findings that the quality of MT and TP is greatly influenced by CAR. Therefore, it is important for coaches to start focusing on the development of CAR in young basketball athletes. Therefore, this study contributes to the literature on how TP is significantly related to CAR and MT. Furthermore, the findings of this study provides valuable information for basketball coaches about the importance of CAR and MT for future athlete performance.

Abstract

Background: Evidence indicates that cricket match results depend on the quality of sport motivation (SM) and technical skills (TS) of elite athletes, and both aspects can be improved through coaches' verbal encouragement during circuit training (CVEdCT). However, limited research has examined the combined effect of verbal encouragement within structured circuit training on both psychological and technical outcomes in cricket. Objectives: Our study aims to examine the effect of CVEdCT on improving SM and TS. Methods: This study adopted an experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. We involved 38 elite cricket athletes in this study. Overall, this study was conducted over a period of 9 weeks. The SM and TS aspects were measured at the pretest and posttest stages. Results: Our research results show that there is a time × group effect on the SM variable in all indicators of intrinsic motivation (p = 0.007), integrated regulation (p = 0.0012), external regulation (p < 0.001), amotivation (p = 0.010), and TS variables with indicators of batting accuracy (p < 0.001), bowling speed (p = 0.006), bowling accuracy (p < 0.001), and fielding efficiency (p = 0.024). Meanwhile, we observed a time effect on the indicators of intrinsic motivation (p = 0.002), integrated regulation (p = 0.031), external regulation (p = 0.013), and amotivation (p = 0.048). Additionally, the TS variable showed significant effects for the indicators of batting accuracy (p = 0.007), bowling speed (p = 0.003), bowling accuracy (p = 0.011), and fielding efficiency (p = 0.006). Based on the Poshoc Bonferroni analysis, there was a significant effect of both groups on SM and TS, but the increase was greater in CVEdCT than CTG. Conclusion: Thus, this study concludes that CVEdCT can improve SM and TS among elite cricket athletes better than CTG.
