Through a deep understanding of the concept of multicultural education and a reconceptualization of the classroom as a cultural entity, we can observe how social interactions, identities, and daily life practices within it make valuable contributions to inclusive and meaningful learning. This research tried to focus on the understanding of the learners in their cultural awareness in order to have respect of others who have variety in sociocultural background and their identity. To respect on others, they have to know themselves so that they can appreciate another culture or everyone without considering their races and gender.  The subject of the study was 23 students of English department of university of Lampung who come from different background and ethnicity. The method was descriptive qualitative by giving open ended questionnaire in gathering the data. The data analysis uses coding in order to get meaningful and clear description. The result shows that the students who come from different background in terms of gender, ages and ethnicity, also have variety in their learning styles. The students think that differences in sociocultural background are not big problems for them. There are ways to overcome problems that might be happened in sociocultural differences among students; for example, understand and respect each other, do not harm or make fun of others, it is also influenced by the attitude of the members which more tolerance and open minded. Their opinions on the way to achieve gender equality in the classroom is through active student participation, not discriminating, students have the same duties and obligations, increasing awareness, equal treatment and opportunities, having to think openly, having the same rights to learn.

Abstract

In this qualitative study, we would like to discover the national character development and cultural education from a local wisdom. The results obtained indicate that Indonesian national education today still faces a number of significant problems. The educational outcomes have not met the expected expectations, in which the learning process in schools is still unable to form the integrity of the graduates and reflect the character and culture of the nation. The education process tends to focus on the cognitive aspects, while the affective aspects that are essential for living in society have not been optimally developed. Therefore, the development of the education of the character and culture of the nation has become a must to be done in schools. Schools as the centre of change must pursue education based on the character and culture of the nation with seriousness. The character and the culture of a nation developed in the school must be in harmony with the local, regional, and national character and cultures. To these goals, the education of character and cultural nation must be developed based on local wisdom.

Abstract

This study analyzes the contribution of Digital Instructional Leadership (DIL) and Distributed Leadership (DL) in improving teacher performance through the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) approach in the context of Indonesian value education. The research uses a qualitative method with data collection through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and focused group discussions. The study found that the implementation of DIL facilitates the integration of digital technology in the learning process, while DL encourages effective collaboration between teachers. Coaching Supervision based on the Ki Hadjar Dewantara Education Trilogy is a key element that mediates the effective implementation of PjBL. However, this study also identifies challenges such as resistance to change, limited technological facilities, and lack of technological competence of teachers. As a solution, it is recommended to strengthen technology training, collaboration between teachers, and intensive supervision support. This research emphasizes the importance of synergy between DIL, DL, and PjBL in creating meaningful learning that instills national values.

Abstract

This study develops and evaluates the effectiveness of the TRANS-HIS (Transformative–Historical Consciousness) learning model in enhancing high school students’ historical literacy and interpretive (verstehen) abilities in Lampung Province, Indonesia, addressing the persistent dominance of memorization-oriented history instruction that limits reflective understanding and historical empathy. Employing a Research and Development approach with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design, the model was implemented and tested in two senior high schools (SMAN 2 Metro and SMA YP Unila Bandar Lampung). The model integrates transformative learning and historical consciousness frameworks grounded in cognitive-constructivist, psychosocial, field learning, independent learning, and andragogical perspectives to promote reflective, contextual, and empathetic historical learning. Quantitative data from pretest–posttest assessments and student response questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings indicate a significant improvement in the experimental group’s learning outcomes, with mean scores increasing from 46.94 to 80.07 (N-Gain = 0.62; p < 0.001), compared to the control group’s increase from 46.81 to 65.21 (N-Gain = 0.30). Additionally, 81% of students reported that the TRANS-HIS model fostered more reflective, empathetic, and relevant learning experiences. These results demonstrate that integrating transformative pedagogy with historical consciousness effectively strengthens students’ interpretive competence beyond factual recall and supports meaningful engagement with historical values and contemporary contexts. The study contributes theoretically by operationalizing the integration of Weberian verstehen and transformative learning within a coherent instructional framework, and practically by providing a validated pedagogical model aligned with 21st-century history education, character formation, and reflective citizenship development.
