Abstract

The topic of work and energy is one of the fundamental aspects of physics education, but many students have difficulty understanding its abstract concepts. This study explores the effectiveness of differentiated learning strategies combined with the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model to improve students' understanding of work and energy at Sekadau Hilir State Junior High School 8. The research used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach, involving 36 eighth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through pre- and post-intervention tests and questionnaires, focusing on the student's conceptual understanding of the material. The intervention involved four sessions, with the PBL model tailored to students' individual learning styles. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in students' learning outcomes, as indicated by the posttest scores (mean = 82.22) compared to the pretest scores (mean = 33.47), with a p-value of 0.000, indicating a statistically significant difference. The effectiveness of the intervention was further supported by a high Cohen's effect size of 3.650, categorizing it as highly effective. The study concludes that differentiated learning, when integrated with the PBL model, effectively enhances students’ understanding of complex physics topics. This approach not only addresses diverse learning styles but also encourages active participation and problem-solving, making it a promising strategy for improving science education outcomes in junior high schools. Future studies should explore the broader application of this model to other physics topics to confirm its generalizability.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the students difficulty of learning physics on understanding the substance pressure concept in junior high school 4 Sungai Raya. This research is a quantitative research in surveying related research with a simple descriptive method with 31 sample of students. The instrument used was a four tier diagnostic test, totaling 6 questions. The data of the test results was then analyzed to calculate the percentage of physics difficulties that students experience in understanding the concept of liquid pressure, to calculate the percentage of each category of concept understanding, and to knowing what it is learning difficulties at any problem. Based on the results of the study showed the percentage of learners who understood the concept of lower 9,14% compared wiht students of the misconception of 54,94% and did not understand the concept of 36,02%. Based on the data analysis was concluded that it is still a high percentage of learning difficulties experienced by students. Any learning difficulties students can be known from each indicator of concept understanding. This research is expected to be used as a consideration of further research

Abstract

This study aims to determine the profile of skills and improvement of critical thinking of students before and after implementing differentiated learning through the Problem Based Learning model on the material of heat and its transfer. The method used is a Pre-Experimental Design with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The research sample consists of one class with 31 students. The research data were obtained by providing a critical thinking skills test in the form of pretest and posttest questions consisting of 5 essay questions. The results show that the average score for the pretest is 47.90% (medium category) and the posttest is 69.03% (high category). Based on calculations using paired sample tests, a sig (2-tailed) value of 0.00 < 0.05 indicates a significant improvement in posttest scores after treatment with differentiated learning through the Problem Based Learning model. Therefore, it can be concluded that differentiated learning with the Problem Based Learning model can enhance students' critical thinking skills on the topic of heat and its transfer.

Abstract

This study aims to test the effect of the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model based on differentiated learning on the improvement of students' critical thinking skills in work and energy materials at SMP Negeri 2 Selakau Timur. This study uses a quantitative method with a pre-experimental experiment design, namely by using one pretest-posttest group. The results of the study show that the application of the PBL model based on differentiated learning is able to significantly improve students' critical thinking skills. The average score of the pretest students was 17.25, while after the implementation of PBL learning, the posttest score increased to 84.83. This increase is evident with an N-gain value of 0.81, which indicates a high category of improvement. In addition, the implementation of differentiated learning with the PBL model reached an average of 90-92%, indicating that the learning went well and as expected. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that differentiated learning with the PBL model is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills, especially in work and energy materials.

Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of addressing students' misconceptions in dynamic electricity topics through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by an e-module based on refutation text. The research design uses an experimental method, in the form of a pre-experimental design and a one-group pretest-posttest design, as well as the cluster random sampling technique. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Pontianak, with a research sample consisting of 31 ninth-grade students. The data collection instrument consisted of five items in the form of a two-tier multiple-choice test, and the results were categorized based on the combination of students' answers and justifications. The data obtained in the study were analyzed using normality tests and the Wilcoxon test, as well as effect size calculations using Cohen's formula as adopted by Glass. The research results show that the average misconception rate among students decreased from 43.2% to 14.9%, with an average misconception reduction of 28.3%, as evidenced by the Wilcoxon test results with an Asymp.Sig value of 0.000 (0.000 < 0.05), and an effect size calculation result of 3.14 (high category). This study proves that the application of the PBL model assisted by an e-module based on refutation text can overcome students' misconceptions in dynamic electricity topics with a high level of effectiveness.
