Abstract

There are 40% (3 billion) of the world's population at risk of suffering from malaria with the addition of some 300-500 million cases and 1.5 to 1.7 million people died from suffering from malaria. In Indonesia to date, infectious disease, especially diseases that are transmitted by animals, especially insects, are still a public health problem. This study aimed to determine the role of the community in the prevention, control and eradication of malaria. This research was a qualitative study. Subjects of the study were public, community leaders, and health care providers. Data were analyzed by using content analysis and theory validation source. Community participation in malaria vector control through several ways to eradicate mosquito breeding, usage of mosquito nets, use of insect repellent, avoiding a night out and a survey of patients who return from leave. The community plays an active role in malaria vector control efforts by closing puddles, community service every week, and some people are already using nets.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijphs.v2i4.5540

Abstract

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Antibody rapid test is one of the COVID-19 screening tests that can be used in the community. The accuracy of the rapid antibody methods needs to be appropriately assessed, it is necessary to carry out a diagnostic accuracy study using a pairwise sensitivity and specificity analysis. This research aimed to assess the sensitivity and specificity of COVID-19 rapid tests, also assesses positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) of the rapid antibody test as a method of screening for COVID-19 in Sleman Regency, Indonesia. In total, 118 respondents who have contact with COVID-19 patients and have symptoms were enrolled in this study. The study was conducted on 118 patients who had been in contact with confirmed COVID-19 118 patients who met the close contact criteria were conducted a rapid antibody test. 64.41% patients were reactive. Real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT PCR) as a gold standard was also carried out for all patients and 63.56% affirmed positive for COVID-19. The sensitivity value was 97.33%, and the specificity value was 93.02%, while the positive predictive value (NPP) was 96.05%, and the negative predictive value (NPN) was 95.24%. These results meet the minimum recommendations for the screening method.

Abstract

Recently, cancer is a major health problem in the world. Lifestyle changes and growing urbanization likely led to increasing breast cancer incidence in such in Indonesia. Therefore, this study aimed to explore lifestyle breast cancer patients among Indonesian women. The investigation was a cross-sectional study distributed among 3,392 females drawn from 13 out of 27 provinces in Indonesia. Multiple binary logistic regressions were conducted to investigate breast cancer risk among Indonesian. A significance level of 0.05 was employed in all analysis. Of the 3,392 respondents included in the analysis, more than half (52.71%; n=1,788) was aged 40–49 years old. The most common marital status of the participants was married (98.20%; n=3,331), followed by no smoking (94.69%; n=3,212) and active exercise (62.12%; n=2,107). Education level was significantly associated with breast cancer (AdjOR_Junior high school=0.21; 95%CI=0.06 to 0.70; p<0.01 and AdjOR_senior high school=0.60; 95%CI=0.15 to 2.26; p<0.05). Education level was significantly related to breast cancer. Lifestyle such as smoking and physical activity was suspected to affect breast cancer indirectly.

Abstract

Diabetes is a public health problem in Indonesia that has been increasing in recent decades. Screening for diabetes was usually identified as pregnant women, adolescents, adults, children, older and obesity, while based on investigation descendent was yet. This cross-sectional study aimed to know the random level blood glucose of family history type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The target group for screening was people with a family history in one of their descent of T2DM with age >20 years in Kulon Progo, DIY, Indonesia. We conducted a detection of random level blood glucose from a venous blood sample. A high level of blood glucose was diagnosed when random blood glucose reaches ≥200 mg/dl. The participant with high level of blood glucose was 29.0%, while borderline blood glucose (≥110-199 mg/dl) was revealed 38.7% of 15.3% subject indicated with mother history. Descendant screening of family history T2DM is early detected respondent with high glucose level and reduced the severe complication.

Abstract

Background: T2DM is a chronic illness associated with numerous comorbidities and leads to chronic complications, resulting in high morbidity and mortality, rising health care costs. However, patients with this disease, through self-care, can significantly mitigate the risk, or delay the onset of these T2DM complications Objective: To investigate factors along with Diabetes Knowledge  Method: A cross-sectional study was carried out among T2DM patients living in both rural and urban areas from the Central and Northeastern regions of Thailand were recruited from outpatient diabetes clinics of both community and university hospitals in both the Khon Kaen and Bangkok provinces of Thailand. Patients were sampled using a stratified sampling design where strata were based on locality (Province) - hospital size combinations. Firstly, we had translated all questionnaires from English to the local language then again back translated simultaneously. Then, the third step was to perform psychometric testing of the DK instrument Lastly, binary logistics mixed effect regression was used to investigate the clustering effect of the participant’s characteristic on this study. Results: After adjust for covariates derivate that age, KK and smaller hospitals, higher education, monthly income, underweight and overweight, DM treatment, and smoking nor alcohol where all found to be associated with various DK Conclusion: In future DK measurement is likely to provide valuable insights in to the epidemiology of diabetes self-management and may also be used to evaluate interventions to reduce poor self-care in T2DM patients, in turn, politically reducing the incidence of, and mortality from, type 2 diabetes mellitus complications.

Abstract

Breast cancer is a public health problem worldwide and a major cause of death among women. Breastcancer screening is well known as a method to reduce breast cancer death, while, several barriers to breastcancer screening were identified. This study aimed to explore breast cancer screening among Indonesian women.Samples were taken by stratified random sampling in 864 women aged ≥18 in three places, namely: Yogyakarta,South of Sumatera, and East Nusa Tenggara. Multinomial logistic regression was used to analyse all items of thequestionnaire against breast cancer screening. Of 864 females, the majority were aged ≥50 years (7.52%). Inaddition, respondents who performed clinical breast examination (CBE) or mammography were 18.29%. Women’sage≥ 50 years hadthe odds lower level of awareness forno perform breast cancer screening 3.07times highercompared to women aged <50 years, but women’s age who did CBE or Mammography did not show significance.Education, religion, marital status, and health insurance are significantly associated with breast cancer screening.

Abstract

Hypertension is a silent killer that is still a health concern globally including in Indonesia. Consumption of fast foods that contain a high level of natrium, fat, sodium, sugar and MSG can be one of the causes of hypertension. Therefore, this research aimed at exploring the relationship between fast food consumption and hypertension in Indonesian. This research used cross-sectional design with secondary data from Indonesian Family Life Survey 5 (2014-2015). The sampling scheme in this study is based on the 1st IFLS survey scheme, which was stratified based on provinces and urban and rural areas. Samples were taken randomly at the household level. 13 provinces were chosen which represented 83% of the total population and reflected the cultural and socio-economic diversity of the Indonesian people. Data analysis uses multivariate logistic regression. Out of 12,105 respondents those who majority of participants consumed fast foods (73%). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that fast food consumption did not have any significant relationship with hypertension (AdjOR = 1.02; Cl 95% = 0.65-1.61; p > 0.05). However, males and respondents who worked were significantly associated with hypertension. Fast food consumption patterns did not correlate to hypertension among Indonesian. However, people need to pay attention to fast food overconsumption in order to be prevented from having hypertension. Future research is needed with other methods in such case-control by adding various risk factors of hypertension.
