Abstract

Finding out how well one can solve issues involving mathematical sequences and series is the primary goal of this study. The confidence that students feel after they have solved a problem is strongly correlated with their problem-solving ability, which is why this study was carried out. A quantitative technique based on survey methodology is used in this study. Thirty students from class IXA at SMPN 8 Pontianak made up the sample for this research, which used basic random sampling to determine the population. The tool used consisted of a 26-statement self-efficacy questionnaire with Likert scale measurements and a 4-question problem-solving skill test with four indications. The results were examined by using the Spearman Rank method to the collected data. Since the study data included both ordinal and interval variables, the Spearman Rank method was used. Findings indicated that self-efficacy and problem-solving skills were unrelated.

Abstract

This Community Service Activity began with a discussion between the mathematics education study program lecturers, the faculty of teaching and educational sciences at Tanjungpura University, and the chairman of the Kubu Raya Subject Teachers' Conference about the rapid development of technology, especially in mathematics learning. Through this discussion, it was found that many teachers still need to utilize technology in teaching mathematics. One technology that is often used in mathematics learning is GeoGebra. GeoGebra is an application with various features that can be used to explain concepts and numbers in mathematics learning, such as plane geometry, space geometry, algebra, etc. Therefore, teachers need technology-related training to assist in learning, especially GeoGebra. Mastery of this technology is an unavoidable demand, and it also plays a role in improving education in Indonesia, especially in West Kalimantan. This training was held on 8 August 2024, with a total of forty-five participants consisting of thirty-five mathematics teachers from various junior high schools in Kubu Raya, three mathematics education students, and seven lecturers at the Tanjungpura University mathematics education study program. This training aims to increase teachers' motivation and ability to use GeoGebra in mathematics learning. Abstract

Abstract

During mathematics lessons, most teachers still used limited teaching media, such as blackboards, that tended to be monotonous. This had an impact on low motivation and learning outcomes for students. This study analyzed the effect of implementing Plickers media in the NHT type cooperative learning model on student motivation and learning outcomes in class X. The type of this research was quasi experimental with a nonequivalent posttest only control group design, using a quantitative approach. All tenth-grade students were the population. The sample used purposive sampling, with class XC consisting of 33 students as the experimental class. Data collection instruments included non-test methods such as a learning motivation questionnaire with 18 statements and a learning outcome test consisting of 5 multiple-choice questions with varying difficulty levels. The questionnaire data were converted using the Method of Successive Interval, and the students' learning outcomes were analyzed using the t-statistical test after meeting the prerequisites of homogeneity and normality. The research showed that student motivation and learning outcomes in classes that implemented Plickers media in the NHT cooperative learning model were better than in classes without Plickers media. Thus, it was concluded that applying Plickers media in the NHT type cooperative learning model significantly impacted students' motivation and learning outcomes. This research implied that applying Plickers media in the NHT type cooperative learning model could be an alternative for teachers to enhance student motivation and learning outcomes.

Abstract

International standard evaluation, PISA, one of which tests problem solving and literacy skills in the Uncertainty and data content on the topic of statistics, until now Indonesia is still below the OECD average. This study is here to describe how the ability of prospective teachers in problem solving is based on the Polya stages. This research needs to be done, where students who will become teachers should have national and international standardized abilities so that Indonesian education can compete globally. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative which describes the problem solving of the research subjects based on the Polya steps, namely understanding the problem, making a plan, implementing the plan and looking back. The work data from the PISA question instrument that has been adapted, modified according to the surrounding culture and has been validated by experts. In addition, the interview technique was carried out based on interview guidelines developed from the indicators of each Polya step. The research subjects were semester VII students who were selected based on the fulfillment of a greater credit load which could provide definite information on the output of prospective educators in the future. The results of the study showed that from the 4 Polya steps of the 4 questions analyzed, it was found that high group students had very good problem solving. Meanwhile, the students in the medium group are divided into two categories, one is almost at low ability and the other is in the medium group. One sample of the medium group has moderate obstacles in step 2 for questions 2 and 4 and the other is only constrained by number 2. For the low group, it is almost similar to the medium group, the difference lies in the implementation of steps 2,3 and 4 on polya which are incomplete except for number 4.
