Abstract

Spirulina platensis is a spiral green-blue algae that is abundant in the subtropical and tropical water bodies. S. platensis has several potentials to be used in the medical fields due to its wound healing and antitumor potentials. This research aimed to evaluate the secondary metabolite compounds contained in the ethanolic extract of S. platensis from Karimun Jawa Sea, Indonesia. The dried S. platensis was macerated and extracted using ethanol, then was filtered using Whatman filter paper. A series of tests has been done to determine the secondary metabolites in the ozonated oil using several chemistry tests and reagents in the ethanol extract of S. platensis. The tests found that S. platensis microalgae harvested from Karimun Jawa sea contains alkaloid, saponin, flavonoid, and quinone. As S. platensis from different region contains different substances, this research shows the substances contained in S. platensis from Karimun Jawa sea. With this research, we knew that S. platensis from Karimun Jawa islands contains alkaloid, saponin, flavonoid, and quinone which can be used as a medicinal ingredient.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the copepod daily feeding to Dunaliella salina and Chlorella sp because the research of copepod daily consumption to the phytoplankton in the sea was a part of discovering the water productivity. The determination was needed in the laboratory experimental method, in order to qualifying the biomass and energy transfer of sea food web / chain. The observation based on the laboratory experimental method and conducted in the Hatcehery and Laboratory of Alga, Marine Station, Teluk Awur Jepara. Four treatment were applied during the observation, i.e.: A. D.salina 20 litre; B. D.salina  2 litre; C. Chlorella sp 20 litre; D. Chlorella sp 2 liter. The copepod grazing rate was determined base on parameter of cell phytoplankton/ ml/ hour/ copepode. There were 4 series observation. The observations were done for 36 hours with 3 hours interval. The data collected was arranged as copepod daily consumption and analyzed using MAXIMS Analysis Models. The highest copepod daily grazing rate was 88.02 ± 44.18 cell phytoplankton/ ml/ hour/ copepod for D.salina on 20 liter volume of media. While the lowest one 50.16 ± 43.99 cell phytoplankton/ ml/ hour / copepod for Chlorella sp on 2 liters volume media. The Copepod daily grazing model tends to form a constant model for D.salina on 20 liters of media and proportional model for 2 liters volume of media. The Chlorella sp on 2 liters volume of media graze by the copepod showed the same model for constant and proportional model. The water quality of the media remained in tolerance range to support the grazing rate of copepod to the phytoplankton during the research.

Abstract

The event of Borneo Vortex is a disruption of the synoptic scale that occurs when the Asian monsoon is active. Borneo Vortex occurs because of the interaction of the Asian monsoon winds with the wind from the southeast in the northwest region of Borneo so that the vortex is formed which can increase rainfall. Related with rainfall, Sea Surface Temperature (SST) becomes one of the factors that influence it. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of Borneo Vortex on the dynamics of Sea Surface Temperatures in the Java Sea. The impact of Borneo Vortex, SST parameter becomes dynamic and very important to influence the condition of waters in Java Sea. Data used in this research is ERA Interim ECMWF (European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecast) Reanalysis data in the form of wind component u and v, vortisitas relative, divergence, and specific humidity. Rainfall analysis is done using daily rainfall data of 3B42RT TRMM (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission), while SST data uses the data of Visualize NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) High Resolution Blended Analysis Data. The Sea Surface Temperature analysis was performed using Remote Sensing data from the period of December until February (DJF) 2004/05 to 2014/15. The method used is to find the composite value of each parameter at the time of Borneo Vortex event during the time of research. The results identify that the largest event of Borneo Vortex was in December. With the presence of Borneo Vortex, there is a significant change in vorticity, divergence, moisture transport, rainfall, and SST. The impact of Borneo Vortex can increase rainfall and increase SST in the Java Sea. Borneo Vortex occurred in December January February at the time of an active Asian monsoon in northwest Borneo where there is a synoptic scale disorder in the form of a massive air vortex causing an increase in rainfall and the dynamics of SST tend to rise as well. Keywords: Borneo Vortex,  Java Sea,  Sea Surface Temperature.
