Abstract

Purpose: The transformation that has occurred in coffee consumption behavior is inseparable from the development of globalization which makes people behave consumptively. This will result in various changes to coffee consumption behavior in the people of Batam City. This study aims to discover coffee consumption behavior, trends, lifestyles, and preferences, where people have the habit of consuming coffee in dine-in coffee shops. But as it evolved, it turned into a coffee takeaway. Methodology/approach: This research uses a quantitative approach that aims to explore the causes related to changes in coffee consumption behavior. Data collection was carried out by purposive sampling with a total of 100 samples. Results/findings: Based on the analysis, five hypotheses were accepted, and two hypotheses were rejected, namely trends, lifestyles, and preferences that had a positive effect on consumption behavior. Preferences can mediate trends in coffee consumption behaviour, while preferences are not able to mediate the influence between lifestyle and consumption behaviour and there is no influence between lifestyle and coffee consumer preferences. Limitations: This study has limitations in that the transformation of coffee consumer behavior was only conducted in Batam City, so there may be differences of opinion if conducted in other cities due to different demographics, cultures, and lifestyles of the people in those cities. Contribution: The results of this study contribute to a deeper understanding of the dynamics of consumer behavior in consuming coffee, providing practical implications in the retail field of coffee business and valuable insights for academics.

Abstract

Widespread boycott campaigns have been developed in Muslim-majority countries, heavily catalyzed in Indonesia by institutional decrees such as the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Fatwa No. 83 of 2023 and driven by geopolitical tensions from the Israel–Gaza conflict. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the structural influence of Religious Animosity and core constructs within the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), namely attitude toward the boycott, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control, on Muslim consumers' boycott intentions toward Israel-affiliated products. Contextually, the empirical inquiry shifts focused on the unique trade-exposed landscape of Batam City, an active Free Trade Zone characteristically marked by high global commercial exposure alongside a deeply rooted Islamic cultural identity. A quantitative survey-based approach was implemented, collecting online questionnaire responses from 241 valid Muslim respondents in Batam, which were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling – Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The empirical results showed that religious enmity played a substantial role in triggering boycott intentions, a mechanism mediated by consumer attitudes and reinforced by perceived behavioral control. Meanwhile, subjective norms and established brand loyalty reported a negligible direct influence in a trade-exposed urban environment. Crucial theoretical contributions were offered by integrating ideological triggers as direct TPB antecedents and providing pragmatic, cautionary implications for global brand management regarding the absolute necessity of conducting socio-political and religious due diligence within culturally sensitive marketplaces.

Abstract

In the increasingly competitive eco-friendly cosmetics market, building sustainability‐based consumer loyalty presents an important challenge. This study aims to analyse the effects of brand popularity (BP), brand authenticity (BAUNT) and green brand trust (GBT) on green brand love (GBL), as well as their direct and indirect effects on green brand loyalty (GBLOY). A quantitative design was adopted, involving 412 female consumers of green cosmetic products in Batam, Indonesia, selected using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using SmartPLS 4 to evaluate the measurement and structural models, while SPSS was used for descriptive statistics. Results indicate that BP, BAUNT and GBT have significant positive effects on GBL and GBLOY. Furthermore, GBL partially mediates the relationships between BP, BAUNT and GBT with GBLOY. These findings demonstrate that both cognitive (brand popularity, authenticity, and trust) and affective (green brand love) processes jointly shape consumer loyalty in sustainability‐oriented markets. The study contributes theoretically by extending Commitment–Trust Theory in the context of green cosmetics branding and offers practical insights for persuading environmentally conscious consumers through authentic, trustworthy, and emotionally engaging brand strategies.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of the cosmetics industry has heightened consumer concern for environmental issues, giving rise to green purchase behavior as a response to sustainability challenges. However, green communication instruments such as eco-label, green advertising, and social media content have not fully overcome the attitude-behavior gap, the main obstacle to translating positive attitudes into actual purchases. This study examines the influence of these instruments on green purchase behavior toward environmentally friendly cosmetics, with environmental awareness and attitude as mediating variables, grounded in the Theory of Planned Behavior and Stimulus-Organism-Response framework. A quantitative approach was applied through a questionnaire distributed to 332 respondents in Batam City via judgmental sampling, analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling with SmartPLS 4. Testing of fifteen hypotheses showed twelve were supported. All instruments significantly influenced awareness and purchase behavior, whereas only social media content and eco-label shaped attitude, with eco-label showing the strongest influence.
