Abstract

Abstract

Background: Leprosy remains a public health problem, with various factors contributingo the transmission and progression of the disease. Stigma and discrimination towards leprosy patients have hindered the treatment and eradication of the disease.  Purpose: To identify the related factors and strategies to overcome stigmas towards leprosy patients. Review: Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease that affects skin and nerve, and causes visible permanent impairment if the patients do not get adequate treatment. Therefore, visible clinicalnifestations and cultural beliefs have createdigma towards leprosy patients, which negatively impacts their quality of life and their awareness of seeking health care. These factors may lead to patients avoiding diagnosis and treatment, which in turn increases number of G2D cases and transmission rate. Cultural and religious beliefs, low education level, and minimal information about leprosy have been known to contribute to the stigma. Several strategies can be considered to use to overcome stigma and discrimination towards leprosy patients. Conclusions: nderstanding factors related to leprosy stigma and its effects on the progression of the disease will help determine the strategies to overcome stigma and discrimination.

Abstract

Nasopharyngeal cancer is a squamous cell carcinoma with a high frequency in East and Southeast Asia. Radiotherapy is the main treatment method often used in the management of nasopharyngeal cancer. Although effective in destroying cancer cells, radiotherapy often causes significant skin reactions, including radiation dermatitis, which can appear as erythema, desquamation, and even ulceration. These reactions can affect the sufferers' quality of life and interfere with the continuity of therapy. This study aims to explore factors that affect the intensity of radiation dermatitis, including location of radiotherapy and concurrent chemotherapy. In addition, radiation dermatitis management strategies, such as the use of moisturizers, topical steroid therapy, and sun protection, are packaged to accelerate the healing process and reduce symptoms. Assessment criteria such as CTCAE and RTOG are used to assess The intensity of dermal responses. It is expected that a thorough understanding of the causes and management of radiation dermatitis would improve the prognosis for patients with nasopharyngeal cancer and increase the effectiveness of therapy. More research is needed to develop more effective preventative and therapeutic measures for radiation-induced dermatitis.

Abstract

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) and generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) are two rare dermatologic conditions that have similar clinical presentations. This case report discusses the challenges in differentiating AGEP and GPP in a 27-year-old man with a history of psoriasis. The patient presented with complaints of red patches and purulent pustules all over the body since 3 days after taking Cefadroxil. Physical examination showed papules and pustules with erythema base. Eosinophilia was found on laboratory examination. Skin biopsy results supported the diagnosis of AGEP with hyperkeratosis, mild spongiosis, and inflammation in the dermis. Based on the history, clinical presentation, laboratory and biopsy results, the patient was diagnosed with AGEP suspected as an allergic reaction to Cefadroxil. The patient was hospitalized with systemic and supportive therapy. This case emphasizes the importance of thorough evaluation including history, clinical findings, and supporting examinations in differentiating AGEP and GPP.

Abstract

Background: Immunodermatology is a medical specialty specializing in detecting and treating skin conditions induced by a compromised immune system response. Each cellular element of the skin undergoes a unique developmental process and serves a specific function within the skin. Many disorders affecting epithelial organs, including the skin, mucous membranes, digestive tract, and respiratory tracts, require immunodermatological testing for diagnosis and treatment. Immunodermatology, a field at the intersection of dermatology and immunology, continues to evolve, with new research being published annually. Purpose: This review aims to summarize the foundational principles of immunodermatology, current diagnostic approaches, and selected immune-mediated skin disorders. Review: There are numerous dermatological conditions related to immunodermatology. Advances in immunology and dermatology have enhanced our understanding of the skin as an active immune organ. Immunodermatology encompasses a wide range of diseases involving both innate and adaptive immunity. Despite growing research, many aspects remain under investigation. Conclusion: The skin’s immunological function could be viewed as a complex and multifaceted interplay between signal processing and defense reactions. Immunodermatology continues to expand with ongoing innovations in diagnostics and therapeutics, highlighting its importance in future clinical and research developments.

Abstract

Scarless wound healing, a hallmark of mid-gestation fetal skin, is characterized by minimal inflammation, balanced transforming growth factor-β isoforms, and a provisional extracellular matrix rich in type III collagen and hyaluronan. Decades of mechanistic studies have mapped how these features collectively enable rapid, regenerative closure without fibrosis. Contemporary adult-tissue strategies therefore focus on recapitulating the fetal milieu through targeted cytokine modulation, notably down-regulating TGF-β1/β2 while supplementing antifibrotic TGF-β3. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their secretome have emerged as potent immunomodulators and angiogenic stimulants that steer wounds toward regeneration rather than scarring. Genetic engineering, biomaterial scaffolds, and extracellular-vesicle delivery platforms further enhance MSC persistence, homing, and paracrine potency. Parallel advances in bio-inspired hydrogels, microneedle arrays, and nanofiber dressings provide spatiotemporal release of growth factors, antimicrobial agents, and oxygen to orchestrate orderly repair. Such combinatorial nanotechnologies not only accelerate re-epithelialization but also limit hypertrophic collagen deposition, leading to flatter, more elastic neodermis.

Abstract

Interprofessional education (IPE) involves collaboration among various fields within the healthcare system to achieve optimal health outcomes. IPE reduces gaps between health professionals from diverse backgrounds, fostering teamwork and effective collaboration. Early integration of IPE into medical curricula is essential to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for collaborative healthcare practices, ultimately improving patient care, reducing medical errors, and enhancing healthcare service quality. This review investigates the impact of early exposure to IPE on the skills, attitudes, and collaborative abilities of medical students in Asia. The goal is to assess whether early introduction fosters professionalism and effective interprofessional collaboration. Literature searches were conducted using Google Scholar and PubMed with appropriate keywords (interprofessional education, collaboration, medicine, and education). Articles were assessed for evidence-based relevance to the global health system, and those with cultural, racial, or religious biases were excluded. Review writing review based on 40 sources (journals, books, or WHO guidelines) that meet the criteria and keywords. Findings suggest that early engagement with IPE promotes positive attitudes, teamwork, and leadership skills among medical students. However, concerns remain regarding insufficient genuine interprofessional collaboration and potential declines in student attitudes without proper implementation. The early introduction of IPE has the potential to cultivate professionalism and collaborative skills among medical students in Asia. This review provides a foundation for encouraging the inclusion of IPE in medical curricula to improve interprofessional collaboration and healthcare outcomes.
