Abstract

Abstract

Lobsters are carnivorous (meat-eating) animals, one of the main types of feed used in lobster cultivation is trash fish. Trash fish has a protein content of 84.67% on dry weight and 18.78 on wet weight. The purpose of this study was to determine the growth of sand lobsters (Panulirus homarus) by providing moist feed and adding different doses of probiotics. This study used the RAL method (completely randomized design) with 6 treatments and 3 replications. The study was conducted for 60 days using sand lobsters measuring 3 cm in length and weighing 2 grams/head, then reared in KJA. The results showed that the use of wet feed with the addition of probiotics in this study had a significant effect on the growth of sand lobsters. The best probiotic dose obtained was 3% in the P2 treatment (wet feed + 3% probiotics). The absolute weight and length are 91.23 grams and 4.19 cm; Specific gravity and length 1.74 grams and 1.46 cm; SR of 81.33%; FCR of 7.60 ; Feed efficiency 91.30%; and protein retention of 28.86%. The growth of sand lobsters continued to decline along with the high doses of probiotics given. Giving probiotics with different doses is thought to affect the value of protein in feed. Laboratory test results showed that the protein value continued to decrease along with the high doses of probiotics given. The author suggests using different types of probiotics to determine the type and effective dosage for the growth of sand lobsters.

Abstract

Vannamei shrimp production is a popular activity in the field of inland aquaculture. North Lombok Regency has a land area of 809.53 square kilometers, consisting of special areas (protected forests, wildlife areas, and others) covering 361.86 square kilometers (44.30%), while the remaining land is mainly used for agricultural purposes, covering an area of 447.67 square kilometers (55.30%). The water area of North Lombok is 594.71 square kilometers with a coastline length of 127 kilometers. Considering the vast land area, it is expected to contribute to the production of vannamei shrimp, which has so far relied solely on coastal cultivation. This community service aims to provide understanding and enhance the community's ability to manage vannamei shrimp cultivation, particularly in limited spaces far from the coastal areas, and optimize the existing freshwater sources. The method used in this community service is Focus Group Discussion (FGD), which involves providing information and insights to farmers regarding the development of low salinity shrimp cultivation technology in circular ponds using the biofloc method, accompanied by mentoring and practical application. The dissemination of information on the development of low salinity shrimp cultivation technology in circular ponds using the biofloc system has helped farmers in cultivating shrimp in low salinity water using modern technology, namely the biofloc system. This technology has improved and increased the quality and quantity of production in the cultivation partnership with Muda Mandiri in Tanjung Village, Tanjung Subdistrict, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The dissemination of information on the development of low salinity shrimp cultivation technology in circular ponds using the biofloc system can also assist farmers in improving the quality of the products in the cultivation partnership with Muda Mandiri in Tanjung Village, Tanjung Subdistrict, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

Abstract

The availability of cheap and high nutritional value artificial feed is a prerequisite for the sustainability of lobster cultivation. In this study, the lobster feed formula was made based on chicken egg hatching waste and maggot flour. The purpose of this study was to determine the performance of scalloped spiny lobsters with artificial feed treatment P1 (70% fish meal + 0% hatching waste), P2 treatment (50% fishmeal + 20% hatching waste), P3 treatment (30% fishmeal + 40% hatching waste), and P4 treatment (10% fishmeal + 60% hatchery waste). This study used lobster seedlings with a size of 1.5 - 3.5 cm which were kept for 60 days. Lobster performance is measured based on body weight, body length, growth rate, feed conversion, molting and lobster dilution rate. The data were analyzed descriptively by presenting mean, standard deviation, and statistical analysis using Duncan's advanced test. The results of the lobster performance study based on absolute length and weight in the P1 treatment were obtained 1.22±0.05 and 1.03±0.21; on P2 treatment obtained 1.31±0.16 and 1.16±0.09; P3 treatment obtained 1.37±0.37 and 1.47±0.13; and P4 treatment obtained 0.82±0.18 and 0.9±0.22. The calculation of the specific growth rate in the P1 treatment was obtained 0.56±0.09, the P2 treatment was obtained 0.69±0.21, the P3 treatment was obtained 0.73±0.16, and the P4 treatment was obtained 0.56±0.24. The ratio of feed conversion and lobster dilution shows a tendency to decrease as the concentration of chicken hatching waste increases. The growth performance of scalloped spiny lobsters fed with chicken egg hatching waste-based feed is quite good up to a concentration of 40% and if more than that will reduce the growth performance of lobsters.

Abstract

Silkworms, as natural food, have an essential role because they can stimulate fish growth. However, silkworms in nature are not always available all year round, so it is necessary to cultivate silkworms. Silkworms need a medium containing organic matter and inorganic matter for their growth. Catfish farming wastewater contains a lot of organic matter. This study aims to evaluate the effect of catfish farming waste (Clarias sp.) on the growth of silkworms (Tubifex sp.) in different initial biomasses. This research method uses the experimental method Complete Randomized Design with four treatments and three repeats. The treatment used is P1 = 15 grams of silkworms; P2 = 20 grams of silkworms; P3 = 25 grams of silkworms; and P4 = 30 grams of silkworms. For analyzing data use ANOVA with a 95% confidence level and the Lower Significance Difference test on SPSS. The results showed that the provision of catfish farming waste had a real influence on the growth of silkworms. Silkworms' absolute weight and biomass were highest in treatment four, which were 195.33 g and 0.112 g. Therefore, catfish farming waste has the potential to be used as raw material for silkworm feed.

Abstract

Stunting is a health issue that impacts children on a local, national, and international scale. High rates of early marriage are directly associated to the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia. Children in early childhood who marry and become pregnant without the knowledge, mental and financial readiness to become good mothers pose a grave threat to the quality of the future human resources. The problem of stunting is influenced not only by a single element, but also by multiple factors, the most significant of which is the fulfillment of nutrient needs, particularly protein, in this case through fish consumption. This community service project aims to provide counseling or instruction on the significance of fish nutrition in preventing stunting, as well as teach participants how to make cookies from wet anchovies. This method of community service is counseling, which consists of multiple stages, including preparation, distribution of materials, pre- and post-testing, explanation of method to make anchovy cookies, and tasting fish-based processed foods together. From the findings of the pretest given by the speaker to the respondents, 50% of the respondents consumed around 200 g of fish on the day of counseling, and 100% of the respondents were motivated to consume fish following the counseling. In addition to emphasizing the significance of consuming fish on a regular basis for proper nutrition, the presenters demonstrated how to make anchovy cookies as an alternative snack for children. The outcome of this service activity is that the respondents are enthusiastic and inspired by the knowledge offered by the presenters, and are interested in preparing anchovy-based cookies at home.

Abstract

Cupang fish (Betta sp.) are included in the variety of freshwater ornamental fish with attractive and beautiful colors and bodies. However, male betta fish are more desirable. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of immersing betta fish (Betta sp) broodstock using three different types of honey on the percentage of male fish through broodstock immersion. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications, namely P0 (control), P1 (forest honey), P2 (livestock honey), and P3 (mangrove honey), so there were 12 experimental units. Analysis of the percentage of male sex was carried out using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Duncan's test. The calculation results show that the percentage of male fish in forest honey, livestock honey, and mangrove honey are 76%, 74%, and 92%, respectively. The results of the calculation of the survival rate ranged from 50 – 53%, the fecundity value ranged from 160 – 245, the hatching rate ranged from 53 – 58%, the absolute weight growth showed a relatively similar value, namely 0.61 – 0.70g, and the weight growth specifically shows a value of 2.84 - 2.90%. The water quality parameter values of temperature, pH and DO obtained during the study were still in optimal conditions for betta fish maintenance. Thus it can be concluded that the treatment using mangrove honey is the treatment with the highest effectiveness value for directing the sex of betta fish (Betta sp.) to male. Key words: fighting fish, honey, sex reversal
