Abstract

This study contributes to the study of religion and media, especially the internet, an area of study that is becoming increasingly popular in religious studies. Its purpose is to discuss the relationship between religion and the internet and how it relates to traditional religious authority. This research applies qualitative research through literature study. This study's result is that the increasing number of religious content on the internet has both negative and positive effects. Another important finding is that the internet and religion follow the logic of discontinuity to religious authority, namely, seeing the internet as a destroyer of traditional religious authority. Besides, at the same time, the internet and religion can also follow the logic of continuity and complement. The internet is seen as an extension of and complementing and strengthening traditional religious authority.

Abstract

Religious education in Indonesia has an important role in shaping students' character and tolerance. However, there are still challenges in integrating tolerance values in religious textbooks. The purpose of this study is to analyze the elements of tolerance in Hinduism textbooks for elementary school students. This research used a content analysis approach to analyze the elements of tolerance in the stories and illustration pictures of Hindu religious textbooks for elementary school students. The results showed that the elements of tolerance in the textbooks could be grouped into an appreciation for differences, understanding of diversity, cooperation and brotherhood, and justice. These findings indicate that Hindu religious textbooks can be an effective means to promote values of tolerance among elementary school students. The scientific contribution of this study is that content analysis can be used to identify the elements of tolerance in Hindu religious textbooks for elementary school. The significance of this research lies in its implications for educators and curriculum developers. By highlighting the elements of tolerance, this study underscores the importance of incorporating these values into religious education curricula. It emphasizes the need for educators and textbook authors to pay attention to and reinforce tolerance elements in the content and design of religious textbooks. In doing so, religious education can effectively contribute to the development of diverse and understanding communities among elementary school students in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze and determine the role of social media in influencing religious doctrinal, ritual experiences, and socio-religious interactions among students at SMA Negeri 1 Cibitung. Qualitative with a phenomenological approach is the type researchers apply and use for this research, the data sources used are primary and secondary data. The data techniques collection used are depth interviews, and FGD (Focus Group Discussion). The research results show that social media helps students think about religion, increase their level of religiosity, obey religious commandments, and remember God more often. In addition, online communities on social media play an important role in supporting religiosity through interaction, discussion, and moral and emotional support. Although there is a small percentage of students who feel confused about certain religious concepts, the majority feel helped by the content they consume on social media. This research provides new contributions in understanding how social media can be used as an effective tool to support religious education and practice among the zillennial generation.

Abstract

A few studies have identified patience as an important part of facing problems in the learning process among Muslim students. This research aims to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the position of patience as part of a person's religious coping mechanism in promoting the academic resilience of Muslim students during the learning process in higher education in Indonesia. This study employs a systematic literature study method used in this research involving a set of reference databases such as Google Scholar, Science Direct, Sage Publications, and Research Gate, using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) as a tool of analysis. It finds that patience is identified as part of a positive religious coping mechanism. Some factors influencing such coping mechanisms include religious rules, a person's spiritual level, a positive external environment and existing religious education. This study underscores the critical role of patience in empowering students to withstand various academic pressures in higher education.

Abstract

This study examined the phenomenon of socio-religious interaction between the Hindu and Islamic communities of Wetu Telu in Taman Kemaliq Pura Lingsar, Lombok. Using a qualitative approach, this study aimed to understand how Taman Kemaliq becomes an acculturation space that facilitates and reflects interfaith harmony. The research uncovered shared histories and religious practices that affirmed communal identity and religious tolerance through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis. The results showed that Taman Kemaliq is a place for religious rituals and a symbol of harmony and collective identity. Simultaneous religious practices, such as rarak kembang waru ceremonies for Muslims and odalan ceremonies for Hindus, provide a platform for both communities to express their own beliefs and traditions while strengthening social relations between communities. This research found that Taman Kemaliq was a sacred place that united differences through ritual practices and strengthened tolerance and harmonious interaction between religious communities in daily life. The study offered new perspectives on religious and cultural practices as tools of inclusive social development and their potential to inspire interfaith harmony. These findings are important for anthropological, theological, and cultural studies, and they show that Taman Kemaliq can be a real example of multicultural societies managing diversity and creating harmony.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze netizen responses on Instagram to Rina Nose's decision to remove her hijab. Drawing on the secularism theory developed by Jose Casanova, which highlights three different connotations of secularism, the research seeks to explore netizen response patterns, identify key themes that emerge from the comments, and examine how social media platforms, particularly Instagram, have become a significant arena for public discussion and debate on religious issues. Employing a qualitative approach, data were collected from comments posted on Rina Nose's Instagram account (@rinanose16) using the ExportComment application and analyzed with Microsoft Excel. The comments were categorized into five main groups: praise, criticism, support, rejection, and rebuttal. The findings reveal a diverse range of responses, with a relatively even distribution across the categories of support, criticism, rejection, praise, and rebuttal. These results reflect the complexity of Indonesian society’s views on religious issues and personal identity in the digital era. The study provides valuable insights into how social media, especially Instagram, serves as an essential space for public debate on socio-religious matters. Furthermore, the study can serve as a foundation for future research on the role of social media in shaping public opinion and expressing religious perspectives. As one of the first studies to specifically analyze netizen reactions on Instagram to a public figure's decision to remove the hijab, this research makes an important contribution to the literature on religion and social media in Indonesia. Keywords: Hijab; Instagram; Social Media; Netizen; Sosio-Religius

Abstract

Jemaat Ahmadiyah Indonesia (JAI) in Parakansalak, Sukabumi District, has faced various forms of discrimination and violence since the issuance of the Joint Ministerial Decree and MUI fatwa that reinforced the negative stigma against this group. This research aims to understand the discrimination experienced by the Parakansalak Ahmadiyah Congregation. A qualitative approach with descriptive method was used in this research, with data obtained through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and literature review. The results showed that the Parakansalak Ahmadiyah congregation experienced discrimination through social structures and policies that created systemic injustice. This research shows that discrimination against the Parakansalak Ahmadiyya Congregation occurs in the form of physical, administrative, and educational access barriers. This discrimination is driven by a combination of MUI fatwa, administrative policies such as SKB 3 Minister, and social pressure from the majority community. The implications of this research include the importance of interfaith dialogue and inclusive protection policies for religious minorities to ensure their rights remain protected without compromising their identity.
