Abstract

This paper studies the variants of hijrah movements among Muslim youths in Bandung, Indonesia, in responding music. Hijrah (to migrate spiritually) was first interpreted as abandoning the past sinful life into the path of Islam. In its development, it is defined as leaving behind “un-Islamic” activities, including music. The latter meaning of hijrah conveys to ex-musicians performing hijrah to completely abandon music and even destroys their musical instruments. Among hijrah groups, Gerakan Pemuda Hijrah conveys the detrimental effects of music for Islamic morality and faith. For them, music will drive Muslims to the jāhilīyah (ignorance), shirk (polytheism) and bid‘ah (innovation/heresy). Amidst this situation, Komunitas Musisi Mengaji (KOMUJI) emerges to practicing hijrah by performing musical activities and even employing “musicking” as a way to attain the true path of Islam. This paper reveals the different views of those groups concerning music and hijrah, as well as shows an alternative path amid Islamism and globalization.

Abstract

In the beginning of the 20th century, West Kalimantan had a number of social issues, especially in the context of religious moderation. Both individuals and groups claim one another as being the most proper ones. Fom that condition, a negative impact occurred on social order in society. Observing to this situation, Muhammad Basiuni Imran, the Maharaja Imam to the Kingdom of Sambas, initiated a meeting of Islamic religious leaders and priests for the Western part of Borneo. This work is based on research conducted on manuscripts that recorded the speeches of West Kalimantan religious leaders and priests (ʻâlim ulamâ) in the meeting. Considering that this study is aimed at exploring the manuscripts, to approach the issue the authors employ philology that includes the inventory of manuscripts, identification of origins, compiling descriptions, making text summaries, and finally presenting messages of religious moderation education in the related texts. This study successfully concludes that those Islamic manuscripts of Sambas in West Kalimantan, including the manuscript by Maharaja Imam Sambas are on the end of extinction due to ages of century. The text is full of messages of religious moderation education as seen in the principle of flexibility and renewal (tajdîd), the principle of ease (taysîr), and the principle of tolerance (tasâmuh). Finally, the madrasa founded by Maharaja Imam Sambas is as among the oldest Islamic education institution that promotes religious moderation in West Kalimantan.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the concept of Islamic philanthropy from the perspective of Max Scheler's axiology and how the National Zakat Agency can practice Islamic philanthropic values in Indonesia. The research process uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach. The results and discussion show that the concept of Islamic philanthropy in the context of Baznas through its programs, axiologically falls into the category of spiritual and religious value hierarchies from Max Scheler's perspective. The conclusion drawn from the research is that the spirit of Islamic philanthropy has a spiritual and religious basis axiologically, especially through the implementation of Baznas programs in the distribution of zakat, infaq, and shadaqah funds. Recommendations for further research are that a more elaborate method is needed to conduct more detailed research on the strategies applied by Baznas in promoting Islamic philanthropy. This is necessary because this research is limited to only one qualitative approach.

Abstract

This study explores the influence of integrating religious values and the use of religious symbols in marketing Sharia-compliant properties on consumer purchase decisions. Employing a netnographic method, this analysis observes consumer interactions on the Instagram account @shariagreenland, revealing how spiritual resonance and the commodification of religious symbols affect consumer preferences and behavior in the property sector. The findings reveal that religious symbols are strategically used in the marketing of Sharia-compliant properties, not only to support religious identity but also as a tool to create added value in consumer perception. These symbols are integrated into various marketing aspects, from property branding using the term “Islamic Housing”, to payment systems and facilities that comply with Islamic law, indicating the occurrence of religious commodification. Furthermore, this research identifies marketing strategies that commodify religious symbols as a major differentiating factor influencing consumer interest. The results of this study provide important insights for property developers in formulating effective marketing strategies, emphasizing the need for an authentic and transparent approach in integrating religious values into their product offerings. These findings contribute to the literature on consumer behavior in the context of Sharia-compliant properties and highlight broader social and cultural dynamics surrounding the commodification of religion in contemporary marketing.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how the relationship between Islam and local culture in the Kawin Cai tradition of the Sundanese people. This research method  is a  field research by collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that there is a mutually supportive correlation between Islam and local culture. The pattern of correlation between Islam and local culture can be seen from the implementation of the Kawin Cai tradition in the Jalaksana District community which contains Islamic values. Activities based on religious values in the Kawin Cai tradition include praying together, eating together and sharing among human beings. These activities have proven the correlation between Islam and local culture in Tatar Sunda, especially in Jalaksana District, Kuningan Regency. This study contributes to realizing harmony in society. It is hoped that the community will understand more and more that the implementation of local traditions is not always associated with shirk, but there is religious value in it. Such comprehension makes a significant contribution to the pluralistic society of Indonesia.
