Abstract

Kesulitan tutor pada semua jenis pembelajaran (tatap muka dan online) adalah ketika mereka mengajarkan konsep abstrak pada perkuliahan fisika modern, terutama untuk meningkatkan keterampilan penalaran mahasiswa. Kami melihat peluang pada kemajuan teknologi digital dapat membantu mengatasi masalah ini. Studi saat ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kinerja keterampilan penalaran mahasiswa pada mata kuliah fisika modern menggunakan simulasi virtual PhET yang terintegrasi di dalam platform LMS. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain ekperimen, dimana dua kelompok sampel disiapkan (kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol), dan diintervensi dengan dua proses belajar. Kelompok eksperimen dibelajarkan dengan simulasi virtual PhET yang terintegrasi di dalam platform LMS, sementara kelompok kontrol dengan pembelajaran tatap muka dengan metode ekspositori. Kedua kelompok sampel adalah mahasiswa yang menempuh matakuliah fisika modern di FKIP Universitas Mataram. Instrumen yang telah valid dipekerjakan untuk mengukur kinerja keterampilan penalaran mahasiswa sebagai pretest dan posttest. Hasil analisis pretest dan posttest menunjukkan bahwa kinerja keterampilan penalaran mahasiswa pada perkuliahan fisika modern meningkat dengan intervensi pembelajaran menggunakan simulasi virtual PhET terintegrasi dengan platform LMS. Hasil analisis statistik juga menunjukkan keunggulan intervensi pembelajaran menggunakan simulasi virtual PhET terintegrasi dengan platform LMS jika dibandingkan dengan metode ekpositori. The Experience of Teaching Modern Physics Using PhET Virtual Simulations: An Analysis of Student Reasoning Skill Performance Abstract The difficulty for tutors in all types of learning (face-to-face and online) is when they teach abstract concepts in modern physics courses, especially to improve students' reasoning skills. We see an opportunity in advances in digital technology that can help overcome this problem. The current study aims to analyze the performance of students' reasoning skills in modern physics courses using PhET virtual simulations that are integrated into the LMS platform. This study used an experimental design, in which two sample groups were prepared (experimental and control groups), and intervened with two learning processes. The experimental group was taught by PhET virtual simulation integrated into the LMS platform, while the control group was taught by face-to-face learning using the expository method. The two sample groups are students taking modern physics courses at FKIP, University of Mataram. Instruments that have been declared valid are employed to measure the performance of students' reasoning skills as a pretest and posttest. The results of the pretest and posttest analysis show that the performance of students' reasoning skills in modern physics courses increases with learning interventions using PhET virtual simulations integrated with the LMS platform. The results of the statistical analysis shows the advantages of learning interventions using PhET virtual simulations integrated with the LMS platform when compared to the expository method.

Abstract

Writing skills dalam mengikuti ajang OPSI sangat penting karena kompetisi ini melibatkan berbagai tahapan yang memerlukan kemampuan menulis yang baik. Mulai dari penyusunan proposal penelitian, laporan penelitian, hingga presentasi hasil penelitian, semua tahap tersebut memerlukan kemampuan menyampaikan informasi secara jelas, terstruktur, dan persuasif. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk  membantu siswa dalam meningkatkan skil menulis melalui program Writing Clinic. Metode yang digunakan yakni pelatihan yang terdiri dari tahapan penyampaian materi offline terkait dengan tips dan trik yang efektif penulisan karya ilmiah, diskusi offline, konsultasi online, dan evaluasi. Program ini di ikuti oleh 42 siswa pilihan yang berasal dari sekolah mitra yakni SMPN 1 Skara, Lombok Timur. Hasil kegiatan ini secara keseluruhan menunjukkan bahwa siswa merespon positip (65% siswa sangat puas dan 35% puas) dan menjadi lebih termotivasi untuk mencoba menulis karya ilmiah. Satu kelompok karya ilmiah yang telah lulus tingkat provinsi semakin optimis menjadi juara di tingkat nasional. Implikasi kegiatan ini menghasilkan adanya MoA sebagai dukungan tertulis dari sekolah dalam hal pembimbingan karya tulis ilmiah. Kedepannya, teknis pelaksanaan kerjasama ini dapat menjadi acuan dalam mengintensifkan ajang lomba olimpiade lainnya yang sejenis. Writing Clinic Program to Improve Students' Writing Skills in the Indonesian Student Research Olympiad (OPSI) Writing skills in participating in OPSI are crucial because this competition involves various stages that require good writing abilities. Starting from the preparation of research proposals, research reports, and research presentations, all of these stages demand the ability to convey information clearly, coherently, and persuasively. This community service aims to assist students in enhancing their writing skills through the Writing Clinic program. The method used includes training consisting of offline material delivery on effective tips and tricks for academic writing, offline discussions, online consultations, and evaluations. This program was attended by 42 selected students from partner schools, namely SMPN 1 Skara, East Lombok. The results of this activity show that students responded positively (95% of students were very satisfied, and 5% were satisfied) and became more motivated to attempt writing academic papers. One academic paper group that has advanced to the provincial level is now more optimistic about becoming champions at the national level. The implication of this activity is the establishment of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) as written support from the school regarding the guidance of academic writing. In the future, the technical implementation of this collaboration can serve as a reference for intensifying similar Olympiad competitions.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan praktis mahasiswa Program Studi Fisika di Universitas Pendidikan Mandalika melalui Program Pelatihan Alat Peraga Laboratorium IPA. Mitra yang terlibat dalam program ini adalah mahasiswa semester 2 dan 4 dari Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi Terapan, dengan total peserta sebanyak 15 mahasiswa. Metode pelaksanaan yang digunakan adalah In-Service Training (IST) dan On-Service Training (OST), yang mencakup sesi teori, demonstrasi, dan praktik langsung di laboratorium. Hasil dari program ini menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman dan keterampilan praktis mahasiswa. Nilai pretest berkisar antara 40 hingga 65, sedangkan nilai posttest berkisar antara 85 hingga 100. Peningkatan nilai terbesar adalah 57 poin, dan yang terkecil adalah 25 poin. N-Gain untuk semua responden berada di atas 0.7, menunjukkan efektivitas tinggi dari program pelatihan ini. Partisipasi aktif mahasiswa juga meningkat, dengan 75 respons menyatakan bahwa kontribusi mereka dihargai selama sesi praktek, dan masing-masing 70 respons untuk lingkungan belajar yang kondusif dan dukungan dari instruktur. Rekomendasi dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memperluas program pelatihan ini ke skala yang lebih besar dan mengimplementasikannya pada bidang studi lain yang memerlukan keterampilan laboratorium. Selain itu, penelitian lebih lanjut diperlukan untuk mengevaluasi dampak jangka panjang dari program ini terhadap kinerja akademik dan karir profesional mahasiswa. Program ini diharapkan dapat menjadi model bagi institusi pendidikan lain dalam mengembangkan keterampilan praktis mahasiswa. Developing Student Practical Skills through the Science Laboratory Teaching Equipment Training Program This study aims to enhance the practical skills of Physics Study Program students at Universitas Pendidikan Mandalika through the Science Laboratory Teaching Equipment Training Program. The partners involved in this program are second and fourth-semester students from the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, with a total of 15 students participating. The implementation methods used are In-Service Training (IST) and On-Service Training (OST), which include theoretical sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice in the laboratory. The results of this program show a significant improvement in students' understanding and practical skills. The pretest scores ranged from 40 to 65, while the posttest scores ranged from 85 to 100. The highest increase in scores was 57 points, and the lowest was 25 points. The N-Gain for all respondents was above 0.7, indicating high effectiveness of the training program. Students' active participation also increased, with 75 responses indicating that their contributions were valued during practice sessions, and 70 responses each for a conducive learning environment and instructor support. The recommendations from this study are to expand this training program to a larger scale and implement it in other fields of study that require laboratory skills. Additionally, further research is needed to evaluate the long-term impact of this program on students' academic performance and professional careers. This program is expected to serve as a model for other educational institutions in developing students' practical skills.

Abstract

This article conducts a comprehensive content review of 20 scholarly articles published in the International Journal of Essential Competencies in Education (IJECE) between June 2022 and December 2023, focusing on the evolving landscape of essential competencies in education. Grounded in the context of Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goal 4, emphasizing inclusive and equitable quality education, the study investigates the temporal evolution, emerging themes, key findings, and global perspectives within the realm of essential competencies. The content analysis reveals a dynamic shift in research themes, marked by transitioning from traditional pedagogies to innovative, technology-integrated teaching models. Authors from diverse geographical backgrounds collaborate to contribute to the discourse, emphasizing the universal relevance of essential competencies in diverse educational contexts. The emergent themes from article titles showcase a multidimensional understanding of competencies, with a particular focus on STEM disciplines and the integration of advanced teaching methodologies. Study highlights consistently underscore the positive impact of technology integration on competency development, emphasizing the transformative potential of active, student-centered approaches. The findings and implications presented contribute to the ongoing dialogue on preparing individuals for success in the 21st century, providing educators, policymakers, and researchers with valuable insights into the multifaceted nature of essential competencies in education. Abstract

This study delves into the design thinking characteristics among students in the field of information technology innovation, examining their competencies within the context of the Information Technology Education program at Mandalika University of Education - Indonesia. Employing an exploratory descriptive research design, the research focuses on 30 students, utilizing the Design Thinking Scale to assess six crucial dimensions: comfort with uncertainty and risks, human-centeredness, mindfulness of the process and impacts on others, collaborative work with diversity, orientation to learning by making and testing, and confidence and optimism to use creativity. The findings reveal a comprehensive understanding of the nuanced aspects of students' design thinking capabilities, indicating areas for improvement. Notably, students exhibit discomfort with uncertainty and risks, signaling a need for interventions to enhance resilience and adaptability. Human-centeredness, collaborative work with diversity, and mindfulness to the process receive "Poor" and "Fair" ratings, emphasizing the importance of fostering user-centric approaches and enhancing collaborative competencies. While students demonstrate a moderate level of competency in practical learning and creative application, there is room for improvement in orientation to learning by making and testing and confidence and optimism to use creativity. The overall "Poor" rating for the average design thinking score suggests a collective need for targeted interventions and educational strategies. This study contributes to the ongoing discourse on design thinking in IT education. It offers insights that can inform tailored pedagogical approaches and interventions to enhance students' design thinking capabilities in preparation for the dynamic challenges of the evolving information technology landscape.

Abstract

The students' mastery of the subject matter has been identified to not reach the attainment indicator. The low learning outcomes of the students are suspected to be a result of the predominantly lecture-based teaching method, leading to passive engagement in the learning process. This research aims to describe the improvement in students' physics learning outcomes on the topic of quantities and units using the quantum learning model. The study employed a classroom action research conducted in two cycles, including planning, implementation, observation, evaluation, and reflection stages. Twenty-seven students were involved as subjects in this research. The data on students' learning outcomes were collected using a 20-item multiple-choice test, and the evaluation of the learning process was conducted by two observers using observation sheets. The research results indicate that the students' classical mastery in the first cycle was 63.16% and increased to 85% in the second cycle. This study concludes that the implementation of the quantum learning model can enhance the physics learning outcomes of the students at MTs Nahdlatul Mujahidin NW Jempong on the topic of quantities and units.

Abstract

The primary objective of this study is to investigate the optical properties of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) based polymer films, incorporating methylene blue (MB) dye and trichloroacetic acid (TCA), for their potential application in gamma radiation dosimetry. Specifically, this research aims to explore the effects of gamma radiation on the color change characteristics, optical absorption spectra, activation energy, and optical band gap energy of the PVA-MB-TCA polymer films. Additionally, the study seeks to assess the stability of these polymer films under varying doses of gamma radiation, ranging up to 14 kGy. The PVA-MB-TCA polymer films were prepared using a solvent-casting method. The polymer film samples were then exposed to gamma radiation from a 60Co source, with doses up to 14 kGy. The study observed significant color changes in the polymer films, transitioning from blue at 0 kGy to light blue-near transparent at 14 kGy. Spectrophotometric analysis identified three distinct wavelengths of maximum absorption at 360 nm, 440 nm, and 560 nm. As the radiation dose increased, absorption values decreased at 360 nm and 440 nm, while an opposite trend was noted at 560 nm. Furthermore, the activation energy of the polymer films was found to decrease with increasing radiation doses, indicating a reduction in the energy barriers for internal reactions. Similarly, the optical band gap energy also showed a decreasing trend with higher radiation doses across all types of transitions. These results demonstrate that the PVA-MB-TCA polymer films undergo significant optical and structural changes when exposed to gamma radiation, highlighting their potential utility as reliable high-dose radiation dosimeters. The stability of these films under radiation further supports their applicability in various fields requiring precise radiation dose monitoring, such as medical sterilization, food processing, and environmental safety.

Abstract

In the contemporary educational landscape, cultivating critical thinking skills is imperative for students to thrive in the 21st century. Recognizing that critical thinking is not an instantaneous process, it is essential to employ didactic mechanisms specifically designed to hone this skill. Traditional expository teaching methods have been deemed insufficient in fostering critical thinking among students. Therefore, effective pedagogical intervention models are warranted, allowing students to engage authentically in everyday contexts. This study assesses the impact of an ethnoscience-integrated problem-based learning model on students' critical thinking skills. Employing a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group, the research unfolded in a secondary school in Mataram City, with a sample of 66 students divided into experimental and control classes. The experimental class experienced instruction through an ethnoscience-integrated problem-based learning model, while the control class adhered to traditional (expository) teaching methods. Critical thinking skills were assessed using a validated test instrument encompassing analysis, inference, evaluation, and decision-making indicators. Descriptive and statistical analyses were applied to scrutinize the data. The results revealed that students in the experimental class exhibited higher levels of critical thinking skills than their counterparts in the control class, which was statistically significant. In conclusion, this research establishes a significant positive influence of the ethnoscience-integrated problem-based learning model on students' critical thinking skills. Furthermore, it reaffirms the inadequacy of traditional (expository) teaching in enhancing students' critical thinking abilities.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model Problem Based Learning (PBL) terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah fisika siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian quasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian non equivalent control group design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas X yang terdiri dari kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini diantaranya tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah, lembar obervasi keterlaksanaan pembelajaran dan aktivitas siswa. Analisis hasil tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah pada kelas eksperimen mendapatakan skor rata-rata 69.07, sedangkan kelas kontrol mendapatkan skor rata-rata 61.50. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis deskriptif dan analisis statistik. Hasil uji hipotesis menggunakan paired sampel t-test diperoleh nilai sig. 2-tailed < 0.05 dengan demikian Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh model Problem Based Learning (PBL) terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah fisika siswa.The Effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Model on Students' Physics Problem-Solving AbilitiesAbstractThis study aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on students' physics problem solving abilities. The instruments in this study included tests of problem-solving abilities, observation sheets on the implementation of learning and student activities. Analysis of the results of the problem-solving ability test in the experimental class got an average score of 69.07, while the control class got an average score of 61.50. The data analysis technique used in this research is descriptive analysis and statistical analysis. The results of hypothesis testing using paired sample t-test obtained sig. 2-tailed < 0.05 thus Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. This shows that there is an influence of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on students' physics problem solving abilities.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji dampak penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Student Teams-Achievement Divisions (STAD) terhadap keterampilan kolaborasi dan hasil belajar siswa dalam mata pelajaran fisika di tingkat sekolah menengah. Penelitian dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus, yang melibatkan 21 siswa kelas X MAN 3 Lombok Tengah. Pada Siklus I, hasil belajar kognitif menunjukkan bahwa hanya 38% siswa yang mencapai ketuntasan dengan nilai rata-rata 57,43. Namun, setelah penerapan model STAD pada Siklus II, terjadi peningkatan signifikan dengan 86% siswa mencapai ketuntasan dan nilai rata-rata meningkat menjadi 89,62. Selain itu, keterampilan kolaborasi siswa meningkat dari 56% pada Siklus I menjadi 74% pada Siklus II. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa model STAD efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan kolaborasi dan pemahaman konsep fisika yang kompleks. Penelitian ini menegaskan pentingnya pembelajaran kooperatif dalam pendidikan fisika, serta peran guru sebagai fasilitator dalam menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang kolaboratif dan mendukung. The Impact of the STAD Cooperative Learning Model on Students' Collaboration Skills and Academic Achievement in Physics Abstract This study examines the impact of implementing the Student Teams-Achievement Divisions (STAD) cooperative learning model on students' collaboration skills and learning outcomes in high school physics. The research was conducted over two cycles, involving 21 tenth-grade science students at MAN 3 Center Lombok. In Cycle I, cognitive learning outcomes showed that only 38% of students achieved mastery with an average score of 57.43. However, after applying the STAD model in Cycle II, there was a significant improvement, with 86% of students achieving mastery and the average score increasing to 89.62. Additionally, students' collaboration skills improved from 56% in Cycle I to 74% in Cycle II. These results indicate that the STAD model is effective in enhancing both collaboration skills and the understanding of complex physics concepts. This study underscores the importance of cooperative learning in physics education and the role of teachers as facilitators in creating a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
