Abstract

Background: Cholesterol imbalance occurs in Diabetes Mellitus, where high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels are low and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) increases, where this imbalance results in the appearance of atherosclerosis. HDL has antiarterosclerotic potential so it needs to be targeted for therapy. One of the bioactive compounds that have this effect is found in chayote (Sechium edule (Jacq.) Swartz). This study aimed to examine the effects of ethanol extract, Chayote (Sechium Edule (Jacq.) Swartz) fraction and juice on the hdl level in male white miceSubjects and Method: A randomized controlled trial study was conducted to test HDL level in 54 male white rats of the Wistar strain (Rattus novergius sp.) after received ethanol extract, Chayote (Sechium Edule (Jacq.) Swartz) fraction and juice. The dependent variable was the HDL level. The independent variable was the variation in the dose of ethanol extract, fraction and Sechium edule (Jacq.) Swartz Juice. The data were analyzed using Anova test. Results: The treatment group induced by Streptozotocin 50 mg / kgBW + nicotinamide (120 mg/kgBW) + HFD and obtained ethanol extract of chayote fruit 150 mg / kgBW, orally had the highest average HDL levels compared to other groups (Mean = 17.31; SD = 3.14).Conclusion: The ethanol solvent found in the ethanol extract is better because it attracts biaoctive compounds so that it has a better effect than the ethyl acetate fraction and the n-hexane fraction. Conclusion: The ethanol solvent found in the ethanol extract is better because it attracts biaoctive compounds so that it has a better effect than the ethyl acetate fraction and the n-hexane fraction. Keywords: HDL, Flavonoid, Sechium edule (Jacq.) Abstract

Community Service (PkM) is carried out by the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Methodist Indonesia by providing counselling how to prepare the Gold Generation. PkM was held on 8-11 June 2022 at Lumban Pea Timur, Balige,Toba District, North Sumatera. The method used is to provide counselling/lectures and provide motivation, then followed by question and answer to obtain results and solutions as a form of solving problems and obstacles faced. The results of PkM with counselling are very effective considering that there are still many people who do not get information about the meaning of Gold Generation. With this counselling, the public becomes aware of the Gold Generation. Thus, it is hoped that the people of Lumban Pea Timur will aware and know how to prepare the Gold Generation for their community

Abstract

The p53 protein functions as a biological molecule that breaks the cycle of damage to DNA damage, even the important function of this molecule is to check whether the organ cells are complete or damaged. However, p53 can undergo mutations that will instead be an oncogene. One way to deal with this is gene therapy, namely PRIMA-1 (p53 Reactivation and Induction of Massive Apoptosis). Until now, further studies are still needed on the effectiveness of this therapy

Abstract

Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) is mainly secreted by the heart ventricles and acts as an antagonist to Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone. BNP is secreted as pre-proBNP which is broken down into BNP and proBNP in circulation. The BNP examination is done by measuring the levels of BNP or N-Terminal-proBNP depending on the method and the manufacturer. Increased levels of BNP and NT-proBNP indicate heart failure so that BNP and NT-proBNP are considered markers of heart failure. This examination is also indicated to help establish the diagnosis, monitoring, and prognosis of heart failure. Natriuretic peptide examination can be done by several methods such as radioimmunoassay (RIA), Enzyme immunoassay (EIA), Fluorescence immunoassay (FIA), and Sandwich Electro Chemiluminescence Immuno Assay (Sandwich ECLIA).

Abstract

The clinical manifestations of Covid -19 are not only in the airway but are also found in eyes with conjunctival epithelium and ACE-2 receptors as their entry points. The most common clinical manifestation is conjunctivitis, therefore it is not easy to make a diagnosis if it relies on clinical findings because it is similar to a common viral infection. This infection has clinical manifestations in the airway that triggers the immune response leading to a cytokine storm with fatal consequences. There is no specific treatment up to this time. The most important thing is to prevent infection.

Abstract

Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare sarcoma, this sarcoma accours around 0,2 – 0,9% of all soft tissue sarcomas. This tumour can occur at any age, but the peak incidence is in the age range of 15 – 35 years, rarely under the age of 5 years and after the age of 50 years. In adults, ASPS most often occur in deep soft tissues in the lower extremites, especially the anterior part of the thighs and buttocks. But in children and infants these tumours often occur in the area of the head and neck, especially the tongue and eyes. Tumours that occur in the head and neck are usually smaller in size may be due to earlier detection. Diagnostic of ASPS can be through CT – Scan/MRI examination, Fnab Citology, Histopathology, and Immunophenotype.

Abstract

NSAIDs are first line therapy for arthritis and widely used in cases of trauma, postoperative pain and other aches. But in the use of NSAID drugs whether it is needed as an analgesic or as an anti-inflammatory all have more or less side effects on the gastrointestinal. The occurrence of side effects of NSAIDs on the gastrointestinal tract can be caused by the direct toxic effects of NSAIDs on the gastric mucosa so the mucosa becomes damaged. While the systemic effect is due to the ability of NSAIDs to inhibit the work of COX-1 which catalyzes the formation of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins in the gastrointestinal mucosa function to maintain mucosal integrity, regulate blood flow, mucous secretion, bicarbonate, epithelial proliferation, and mucosal resistance to damage. The clinical spectrum of NSAID gastropathy includes a wide range of clinical conditions, ranging from the mildest form of gastrointestinal discontrol. Endoscopically mucous congestion will occur, small erosions sometimes accompanied by bleeding

Abstract

Candida species is an important cause of nosocomial infection that lead to death and prolonged hospital stay. The number of immunocompromised patients, at greater risk of fungal infection, treated in intensive care units (ICUs) has increased considerably. The widespread use of invasive monitoring , therapeutic equipment and treatment with broad spectrum antibiotic increases the risk of fungal colonization and infection. An acute awareness of the increasing incidence of Candida as a pathogen and of the associated morbidity and mortality is necessary. Guidelines management of candidiasis by Infectious Disesase Society of America(IDSA) in 2009 previously, was revised. There have been new data pertaining to diagnosis, prevention, and treatment for proven or suspected invasive candidiasis, leading to significant modification in treatment recommendations, which released in 2016. This article provides a summary of the most recent guideline for the management of candidiasis.

Abstract

Pain is an unpleasant emotional sensation. Pain can begin after inflammation and/or after tissue damage. The use of analgesic or anti-pain drugs so far has undesirable side effects, so people have begun to look for alternative traditional medicines as a substitute. One of the plants that can be used as an alternative medicine for analgesics is chayote (S. edule). The purpose of this review is to provide information about chayote as an analgesic. This study focused on reviewing articles on experimental studies conducted in vivo and its bioactive components.
