Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of understanding song lyrics as a form of linguistic and cultural expression rich in meaning, particularly within the context of contemporary Arabic music. The song “Kalam Einih” by Sherine Abdul Wahab was selected for its deep emotional and symbolic content, as well as its combination of fusha and amiyah Arabic. This research aims to identify and analyze the denotative and connotative meanings found in the lyrics, using the semantic theory of Chaer. The method applied is descriptive qualitative with note-taking and content analysis techniques, supported by expert judgment validation. The findings reveal that the lyrics contain literal meanings that express love explicitly, and connotative meanings that imply emotional depth through the symbolism of eye contact. This study confirms that song lyrics can represent cultural and psychological realities in an implicit manner. The results contribute to the development of semantic studies in musical contexts and enrich the linguistic scholarship on modern Arabic expression.

Abstract

Abstracts : The phenomenon of globalization presents a significant challenge to a nation's cultural resilience. Indonesia, a country rich in local cultural diversity, faces the risk of losing its cultural wealth if there are no adaptive conservation efforts. In this context, social media, particularly TikTok, presents a strategic opportunity to counter the trend of cultural homogenization. The platform offers creators the opportunity to represent local culture in an engaging and accessible way to a diverse community, packaged in digital content. This study aims to identify the form of Indonesian cultural representation on TikTok creator accounts, analyze the cultural values that appear in the content produced by @sabda.bumi creators, and explore how the contribution of cultural content on TikTok can help implement cultural resilience efforts and improve people's digital literacy. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach that identifies patterns, themes, and relationships within content from TikTok creators, specifically Kiki Nasution, through content analysis. The study's results show that Kiki Nasution's account content has a distinctive focus and approach in representing Indonesian culture through social media. This research also demonstrates that the presence of cultural content on TikTok serves not only as entertainment but also as a form of culture-based digital literacy, directly contributing to cultural resilience. This creator has proven to be able to make TikTok an alternative media for cultural preservation that adapts to digital dynamics, while building cultural awareness among the younger generation.

Abstract

The digital era has transformed language education, demanding not only linguistic proficiency but also the integration of digital literacy and intercultural communicative competence (ICC). This study addresses the fragmented nature of previous research by conducting a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to analyze innovations in technology-enhanced language learning. The research aims to synthesize existing insights to propose a holistic pedagogical model. The study is grounded in three key frameworks: Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), digital literacy, and Byram's model of ICC, with an emphasis on the catalytic role of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The methodology involved a thematic analysis of international journals, conference proceedings, academic books, and official reports. The data collection and selection process adhered to a rigorous SLR protocol to ensure consistency and reproducibility. The findings reveal three main themes: (1) Pedagogical innovations often lack cohesive integration of digital practices and ICC; (2) Digital tools are widely used in higher education, yet ICC development remains underdeveloped; and (3) AI significantly enhances digital literacy and intercultural collaboration, but teacher intervention is crucial to overcome its dialogical limitations. Based on these findings, the study proposes a digital collaborative storytelling model that integrates CLT, digital literacy, ICC, and AI. This model offers an innovative approach to foster interactive, reflective, and culturally meaningful language learning. The research contributes to developing a more holistic, adaptive, and sustainable 21st-century language pedagogy.

Abstract

Songs as modern literary works not only function as entertainment, but also as a means of character education, one of which can be found in the soundtrack of the movie Jumbo. This research aims to reveal the morality values in Jumbo movie soundtrack and its relevance to Indonesian language learning in Madrasah Aliyah. This research uses descriptive qualitative approach with literature study method which is analyzed through Miles & Huberman interactive model. The data is in the form of lyrics of three main songs part of the soundtrack of this movie, namely Selalu Ada di Nadimu sung by Bunga Citra Lestari, Prince Poetiray & Quinn Salman, Dengar Hatimu by Prince Poetiray & Quinn Salman, and Kumpul Bocah by MALIQ & D'Essentials. The research found seven prominent morality values, namely gratitude, compassion, caring, resilience and courage, optimism, self-awareness, and cultural preservation. These values are in line with Lickona's character education framework that emphasizes the integration of moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action. The conclusion of this study confirms that the soundtrack song can be an effective medium for Phase F Learning Outcomes (CP) for grades XI-XII, namely evaluating song texts as literary texts, appreciating the aesthetic quality of lyrics, and writing reflections or literary creations inspired by songs. This also strengthens the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, supports the achievement of the Pancasila Student Profile, and reflects the vision of Islamic education Rahmatan lil 'Alamin. Thus, this research confirms the position of songs as a bridge between literary appreciation, character strengthening, and contextual learning in the digital era.

Abstract

This study investigates grammar, mechanics, and register errors in dialogue writing produced by Communication Science students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Karanganyar during the 2024–2025 academic year. Applying a descriptive qualitative design, the writing of ten student groups was analyzed to identify common error patterns and classify them into three categories: grammar, mechanics, and register. Data analysis revealed that grammar common errors included sentence fragments, awkward word choices, and incorrect verb forms. In addition, mechanical errors involved capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and inconsistent time notation. Furthermore, register issues were also frequent such as students relying on informal and social media expressions that were inappropriate for academic writing. The findings indicate that their written accuracy was often limited by weaknesses in grammar and mechanics. Many of the errors reflected direct transfer from spoken Indonesian or the influence of online communication styles. The results show that teaching writing in English as a Foreign Language should combine grammar, mechanics, and register, not treat them as separate areas. The study recommends classroom activities that combine error analysis, peer editing, and register transformation tasks to foster both accuracy and appropriacy in student writing. Those approaches may help English as a Foreign Language learners produce clearer, more professional written communication in academic settings.

Abstract

The concept of Wahdat al-Wujud or the unity of being between humans and God is one of the central teachings in Sufism, which was systematically formulated by Ibn 'Arabi but has roots in earlier Sufi thought, such as Abu Yazid al-Busthami and al-Hallaj. Although widely accepted among Sufis, this concept has drawn theological criticism from figures such as Ibn Taymiyyah. In Java, this teaching entered through the scholarly channels from Andalusia–Middle East–Gujarat–Indonesian archipelago in the 15th/16th century, then adapted to local traditions influenced by the Kapitayan and Hinduism-Buddhism, forming a syncretic “Javanese Islam.” This study aimed to analyze the representation of Wahdat al-Wujud in the Serat Wedhatama by KGPAA Mangkunegara IV, focusing on symbolism, worship practices, and ontological perspectives. The method used was descriptive-analytical with a socio-linguistic approach, utilizing Ibn 'Arabi's Sufism theory and the framework of categorizing existence in mantiq. This study hypothesized that Serat Wedhatama not only adopted the concept of Wahdat al-Wujud theoretically, but also integrated it into the local wisdom of the palace through language, symbols, and spiritual practices typical of Javanese culture, thus creating a unique and contextual form of understanding.

Abstract

BIPA learning provided to foreign students is carried out to provide knowledge and language proficiency. Not only language proficiency but also fulfilling cultural understanding as a means of survival. This study aims to explain the needs of foreign students to understand the local culture of Pekalongan as a region with rich local cultural wisdom. This descriptive qualitative research method analyzes based on questionnaire and interview data collection techniques with data sources of seven foreign students from Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. The questionnaire is elaborated with questions about the experience of learning Indonesian and opinions on local Pekalongan culture. BIPA students who have no previous experience learning Indonesian (85%) need an understanding of Pekalongan culture integrated into learning through teaching materials and learning media. Problems that arise as obstacles in carrying out academic activities show a figure of 71.4%. One of the difficulties in adapting to local culture is food and traditions that are not familiar and the meaning of each tradition is not understood. This proves the importance of BIPA learning by incorporating local Pekalongan cultural content to provide insight as an effort to adapt to the environment.

Abstract

Abstract

The development of digital technology has brought significant changes to language learning strategies, including the integration of creative media such as digital storytelling and podcasts. The Islamic Studies Project is an initiative that utilizes both media to teach language while introducing Islamic history and culture in a contextual manner. This study aims to examine how the Islamic Studies Project developed an innovative language learning model based on Islamic history content packaged through digital and audiovisual narratives. This research approach used a qualitative case study method with data collection techniques such as video and podcast content analysis, in-depth interviews with the creative team, and observation of audience interactions on social media platforms. The results showed that the integration of digital storytelling and podcasts can increase participants' vocabulary, deepen their understanding of the cultural context, and encourage active audience engagement in the learning process. The success of this model lies in its ability to combine communicative language, engaging visuals and audio, and historical narratives relevant to the needs of the digital generation. Furthermore, the Islamic Studies Project serves as a medium for preserving cultural heritage through the documentation of local narratives and Islamic history presented in a creative format. These findings suggest that the combination of digital storytelling and podcasts has the potential to be an effective alternative approach to language education in the digital era and can be replicated in other language learning contexts with content tailored to local cultural characteristics.
