Abstract

Religious moderation is an important principle in building a harmonious and inclusive religious life. In the context of Nusantara Islam, moderate values ​​are not only manifested in worship practices and social interactions, but are also reflected through art and architecture. The Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Surakarta is a concrete example of cultural acculturation that is full of spiritual and aesthetic meaning. This article aims to examine how batik motifs applied to mosque ornaments reflect messages of religious moderation. With a hermeneutic approach and symbolic analysis, this study examines three main motifs: Lung-lungan, Buket Ukel Tanahan and Kawung—as representations of the values ​​of balance, openness, and tolerance in Islamic teachings. The results of the study show that batik motifs are not merely visual decorations, but also an effective medium of cultural da’wah in strengthening the narrative of Islam rahmatan lil ‘alamin in public spaces. a visual narrative of Islam that is friendly to culture, open to diversity, and strong in principle. These symbols reinforce the message that religious moderation is not only a verbal teaching, but is also embedded in the cultural and aesthetic expressions of Islam Nusantara.

Abstract

This article explores the transformation of Islamic education in South Sulawesi from the traditional langgar system to the more structured form of madrasah during the period 1900– 1942. The study aims to identify the social, political, and religious dynamics that underpinned the shift in Islamic education amidst Dutch colonial pressures and Christian missionary expansion. Utilizing a historical approach and descriptive-analytical method, this article provides a historical account of the emergence of madrasahs as both an adaptive response to modern challenges and a form of resistance to the hegemony of colonial education. The findings reveal that madrasahs were not merely a continuation of traditional langgar, but also institutional innovations that integrated elements of modernity, such as graded systems, structured curricula, and academic evaluations, while maintaining the core values of Islamic teachings. Madrasahs became ideological and cultural arenas of contestation between Islamic and secular colonial educational systems. Local scholars such as Anregurutta Sulaiman and H. Muhammad As’ad played crucial roles in establishing and developing madrasahs in regions like Sengkang, Bone, and Luwu. This article concludes that the transformation of Islamic educational institutions reflects the Muslim community’s endeavor to preserve religious identity and create a competitive educational foundation within the colonial structure.

Abstract

This research examines how Muslim minority communities in Pattani and Southern Thailand construct and maintain their identity through the Ashura porridge tradition within a complex socio-political context. Through an interdisciplinary approach combining historical and anthropological analysis with Gramscian hegemony theory, this study reveals how a religio-culinary tradition serves as both a medium for identity construction and an arena for cultural negotiation. Using qualitative methods that combine Hadith literature studies, literature review, and online interviews with informants from various regions of Southern Thailand, this research identifies three main findings. First, the construction of minority Muslim identity through the Ashura tradition demonstrates how cultural practices can transcend theological divisions, creating unique forms of local expression. Second, the practice of making and distributing Ashura porridge functions as a mechanism for reinforcing collective identity and cultural resistance against assimilation policies. Third, while this tradition strengthens internal group identity, it simultaneously serves as a potential bridge for inter-group dialogue, though it can also become a catalyst for political tensions.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the impact of the implementation of Augmented Reality (AR) technology-based learning media for teachers and students at Al Ma'arif Andong Junior High School. This study includes field research with a qualitative case study approach. Data collection techniques use observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis uses data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions (data triangulation). The results of this study indicate that the implementation of augmented reality media in Arabic language learning at Al Ma'arif Andong Islamic High School has had a significant impact on teachers and students. Among them: School partners have given a positive response to AR learning media and will disseminate it on a wider scale. Teachers find it easier to teach and have an overview of the use of AR media in classroom learning, students become more enthusiastic in participating in class learning and can increase student learning motivation, especially in Arabic lessons. The limitations of this study are the lack of infrastructure that supports learning using AR media, many teachers who are less competent in using AR media-based technology. This research contributes to the development of Arabic language education by strengthening IT-based learning media innovation for teachers at Al Ma'arif Islamic High School in Andong through Augmented Reality-based learning. It also fosters students' enthusiasm for learning at Al Ma'arif Islamic High School in Andong Boyolali.

Abstract

This article explores the implementation of religious moderation education through extracurricular activities in vocational high schools. This research uses a qualitative approach that is analytically descriptive. The research location is at SMK 17 August Bangsri Jepara. Data collection in this study used interview techniques, observation, documentation studies, literature studies, and field notes. The data analysis is like Miles and Huberman, namely: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. In this study obtained the results that religious moderation education at SMK 17 August Bangsri Jepara can be carried out through several strategies, among others: First, extracurricular activities of scouts. To produce moderate scout members, of course, they must be accompanied by moderate mentors to teach the value of religious moderation; Second, camp activities: Ambalam Guest Reception Camp. In this activity, scouts are taught to respect various religious beliefs, teach moral values, and develop positive religious attitudes. One of the activities taught is the appreciation of the Dasa Darma Scout is very important and can be applied to extracurricular scouting activities to shape the character of participants for the better, in this case the attitude of religious moderation; Third, camp activities: Bantara Camp. In this case, participants are taught some education, including: character building, life skills, and social care. One of them is the Scout Oath, this activity has a positive impact in encouraging moderate attitudes for participants and also for participants at school. Manifestations of moderate education for participants include: universal values; openness; tolerance; and cooperation.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to describe the use of digital media in EFL Students’ online assessment and to find out the students’ perception in use of digital media in online assessment. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative and the techniques of collecting the data used observation and interview. The results showed that the online assessment in English lesson was implemented through the use of six digital media, namely Google Form, Google Classroom, Kahoot, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, and YouTube. Google form and Google Classroom were used for arranging, creating, submitting, and correcting the assessment. Instagram and WhatsApp were used for giving and submitting the assessment while YouTube was used for giving example to students. The students had a positive attitude as well about the use of digital media in online assessment. They agreed that introducing technology into the way to do evaluations is a positive innovation since it allowed them to receive immediate feedback and result. The findings revealed that the students think Google Form is simple to use during the implementation, which is supported by respondents when interviewed about it. Students' perspectives on the implementation of Google Forms are valuable for making it easier for users to create and collect data they want. It also demonstrated that numerous types of social media, such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok while WhatsApp are quite interesting because they are frequently utilized in daily life.

Abstract

The research examines how implicatures in the dialogues of the TV series Preman Pensiun function to promote the values of Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16). This study identifies types of implicature based on violation of the maxim, analyses their implied meanings, and examines how these implicatures support SDG 16. The research employs a qualitative pragmatic approach, focusing on the analysis of conversational implicatures found in selected episodes of Preman Pensiun. Data collection involves transcribing dialogues which are included to implicature by using Grice’s Cooperative Principle and conversational maxims, examining how speakers imply meanings beyond their explicit statements, and categorizing implicatures based on their contribution to SDG 16’s themes. The study finds 25 conversational implicature from episode 1-3 of Preman Pensiun Season 10 that consistently convey messages supporting SDG 16 indicators, namely anti-corruption, peace and security, justice in institution, and inclusiveness and respect. Overall, implicature in Preman Pensiun functions as a pragmatic tool to subtly promote SDG 16 values. By connecting these pragmatic elements to SDG 16, the study shows that television dialogues can do more than entertain. They can also raise awareness about peace, justice, and fair institutions. This research offers a fresh perspective on how language use in everyday media reflects important social values and reveals the potential of popular culture to play a role in supporting global development goals.

Abstract

Indonesia, a country rich in diverse religions, ethnicities, and cultures, has always prioritised interfaith harmony as one of the key aspects necessary to maintain national unity and cohesion. Harmony is defined as a state of calmness, harmony, and mutual respect. In this context, local wisdom plays a crucial role in preserving diversity, serving as a guiding principle that encourages mutual respect, appreciation, and the cultivation of tolerance within a diverse society. Local traditions, known as "Syukuran Agustusan," are cultural expressions that embody significant religious and social values. This tradition is often carried out as an expression of gratitude for independence and as a way to strengthen relationships between communities. This study uses a qualitative approach to understand the phenomenon of interfaith harmony in depth, comprehensively, and in its natural context. This approach provides an opportunity to describe, interpret, and understand the subjective meaning of the participants' experiences. The research location is Segaran Village, located in Wates Subdistrict, Kediri Regency. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews with community leaders, religious figures, youth, and residents of various religions to explore their opinions and perspectives; participatory observation to observe social interactions and the atmosphere of togetherness. The research findings indicate that the Agustusan Thanksgiving Tradition in Segaran Village is a communal celebration held every night on 17 August, focusing on expressing gratitude for independence and collective prayers for safety. This tradition effectively promotes interfaith harmony through various means, such as serving as an open platform for interaction among all people, regardless of religious background, enabling them to gather and interact, and ensuring there is no discrimination.

Abstract

Throughout its history, the Ponorogo Reyog art form has often been plagued by problems stemming from factors such as politics, ideology, and other factors. These challenges have helped mature and further develop the art form. One such issue is the ideological differences between religious beliefs and Islam, particularly between Reyog old, which adheres to traditions identified with animism and dynamism, and Reyog Santri, which uses Reyog art as a medium for Islamic propagation. To prevent conflict, moderation education is necessary. as an effort to unite various The view that unites the same pole, namely the mutual preservation of Reyog art, continues to develop with its respective variations. As a result, differences are inevitable, but respect and appreciation of each style must be prioritized over individual claims of truth, so that strong synergy is established among Reyog art preservers for further progress and development both in Indonesia and internationally .

Abstract

Cindaga Village, Banyumas Regency, is characterized by rich cultural traditions and religious diversity, which simultaneously serve as opportunities and challenges in maintaining social harmony. To address this, an educational program was developed that integrates da'wah, language, and arts through the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) method. This study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative techniques. Quantitative data were collected through surveys measuring community participation and perceptions of religious moderation, while qualitative data were obtained through interviews, participant observation, and documentation of cultural activities. The findings show that the integration of karawitan (traditional Javanese gamelan music) with da'wah-based education not only preserves cultural heritage but also serves as a medium for cultural da'wah that promotes tolerance, justice, and balance. Furthermore, the ABCD method effectively mobilized local assets and community engagement across generations, strengthening cultural identity, enhancing social cohesion, and fostering collective awareness of the importance of peaceful coexistence in diversity.
