Abstract

This study aimed to discover the EFL students' viewpoints on the difficulties they encountered when writing in English, as well as their strategies for overcoming these hurdles. This study was conducted on EFL students in a senior high school in Medan. This research involved the involvement of twenty-nine eleventh-graders. The researchers utilized a questionnaire and an interview to collect data following their research themes. The questionnaire aims to identify the barriers students face when writing in English. The questionnaire was sent using a Google form with closed-ended questions based on Bryne's (1988) categories and a five-point Likert scale (strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, and strongly disagree). Subsequently, an interview was conducted with a subset of participants (n = 5) specifically chosen to elicit further information about their strategies for overcoming writing difficulties. The interview was recorded using a cell phone by the researchers. Before data processing, the audio cassette was transcribed word-for-word. Thus, data collected with three instruments were analyzed using three approaches: frequency count for questionnaire data and content analysis for interview data. According to the findings, students encountered linguistic (grammar, vocabulary, language use, sentence construction) and psychological issues when composing English texts (lack of teacher instruction and feedback). There are no cognitive appearance issues. The students use mind mapping, translating materials from Indonesian to English, maintaining practice, and peer evaluation to overcome their writing difficulties. This research was expected to contribute to minimizing the difficulties experienced by students in writing English through the strategy revealed in this study

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of tolerance behavior through animated films at RA Kartini Sei Rampah, addressing various problems and solutions. To collect data, the author used classroom action research methods. The research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of four stages: planning, action/implementation, observation, and analysis/action. The sample consisted of 20 students. Using animated films as a medium can improve tolerance behavior in children aged 5-6 years at RA Kartini Sei Rampah during the 2023/2024 academic year. This is shown by the results of pre-action observations, which revealed that 2 children, or 25%, were beginning to develop tolerance behavior, while 15 children, or 75%, had not yet developed. In the first cycle, the number increased to 10 children, or 50%, who developed as expected, 8 children, or 40%, who were beginning to develop, and 2 children, or 10%, who had not yet developed. In the second cycle, the results improved further, with 7 children, or 35%, developing very well, 11 children, or 55%, developing as expected, and 2 children, or 10%, who were beginning to develop. The results of this study show that animated films can enhance children's tolerance behavior.

Abstract

This research was conducted at RA.Al-Barkah Medan Helvetia, Medan City, where initially during the pre-cycle phase, researchers observed a lack of religious knowledge among 5-6 year-old children at RA. Al-Barkah. This was attributed to the limited use of media in learning. Therefore, the researchers initiated a study titled "The Implementation of Animated Film Media in Enhancing the Religious Knowledge of 5-6 Year-Old Children at RA. Al-Barkah Medan Helvetia." The research questions were summarized into three points: assessing the children's religious knowledge before watching animated films, examining the implementation process of animated films in enhancing the religious knowledge of children aged 5-6 years at RA. Al-Barkah, and evaluating whether the children's religious knowledge improved after watching these animated films. The research design adopted was Classroom Action Research, consisting of four cyclic stages: (1) Planning, (2) Implementation, (3) Observation, and (4) Reflection. The researcher prepared instruments to facilitate the observation of the children's religious knowledge. The results of the study, involving 20 participants, showed that 2 children (10%) were categorized as Developing Very Well (DVW), 14 children (70%) as Developing As Expected (DAE), 4 children (20%) as Starting to Develop (STD), and none were categorized as Not Developing Yet (NDY). The steps taken to increase a child's religious abilities are: Opening activities, core activities, and closing activities. Active guidance is provided during the core activities, and recognition is given during the closing activities.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the types of written feedback given by teachers on the writing of eleventh-grade senior high school students at SMA Tarbiyah Islamiyah. The instrument used was document analysis to examine the type of written feedback given by the English teacher on the writing results of tenth-grade students majoring in Social Sciences (IPS) and Natural Sciences (IPA). The findings revealed that the two teachers used different written feedback on students' writing. Teachers who teach in the Science major tend to use direct written feedback and teachers who teach in the Social Sciences department use indirect feedback. It can be concluded that the reason for the different types of written feedback used is that teachers who teach in science majors think that direct feedback is more detailed and understood more quickly by students. Meanwhile, teachers who teach in the Social Sciences major argue that providing written feedback indirectly it can encourage students to think and make students more curious about the mistakes they write and students can ask questions to the teacher.

Abstract

This writing aims to determine the function of Linguistics in English Language Teaching. It will discuss how important linguistics in English language teaching is. It uses the literature review method or called library research. In collecting the data, it uses the descriptive method and comparison method. From the finding, it can be concluded that linguistics pays attention to its function in teaching. Linguistics and language teaching are closely related to each other. This is because language teaching goes hand in hand with language growth. How is it possible that a language teacher can practice language skills if he does not master linguistics itself, how can he train writing skills if he does not master spelling, morphology, syntax, semantics, and lexicology? In addition, as a language teacher, he not only has to practice language skills but also has to explain the rules of the language correctly.

The purpose of this study is to look at the capacity of slow learners in elementary school to improve their memory using cognitive therapy. The study was carried out at SDLB Gunung Louser Gayo Lues, the key organizer of inclusion. This study's sample consisted of pupils who are classified as slow learners among children with special needs (slow learners). This study's sample size was 20 students. In qualitative research, data is collected in natural settings and from original sources. More participatory observation (participatory observation), in-depth interviews (in-depth interviews), and recording are used in data collecting procedures. In addition, data collection techniques in qualitative research can also be done by recording data in intensive field notes. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that there were differences in children's memory abilities before being given therapy with after being given therapy to slow learner children in elementary school. So the hypothesis proposed is that there is a difference in children's memory abilities before being given therapy with after being given therapy to slow learner children in elementary school children.

The majority of this opinion was criticized by teachers regarding a course of action, requiring books, outreach from the government, and teachers' need to understand the Merdeka Belajar Instructive modules. The conceivable course of action was for the teacher to reflect and survey and, after that, ask for advice from teachers, companions, and the deputy head of the instructive programs so that they were better orchestrated to go up against the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum. Schools must complete a package book included in the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum, and the government must increase the socialization of the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum.

In this study, the sampling technician chose three interns as informants who informed the challenges phenomena, and insights that identified cases. This study found that pre-working teachers faced many challenges during the teaching practice in creating an effective classroom, where the influential factors were lack of facilities and insufficient resources. However, this study showed the three challenges that faced the pre-service teacher: lack of respect, and lack of education resources.
