Abstract

The independent curriculum demands that teachers accommodate students' diverse learning characteristics. Differentiated learning provides a framework for meeting these varied needs, with the effective use of instructional media playing a crucial role. PowerPoint presentations and videos are frequently chosen by teachers to support differentiated learning due to their adaptability and broad accessibility. This qualitative descriptive study explores teachers’ preferences in selecting PowerPoint and video as instructional media for differentiated learning. Data were collected through interviews, observations, questionnaires, and documentation. The data analysis process involved four stages: data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Findings indicate that teachers prefer PowerPoint and video media based on several key factors: alignment with learning objectives, compatibility with student characteristics, ease of use, interactivity, effectiveness in content delivery, accessibility, flexibility, cost-efficiency, and compatibility with available technology and infrastructure. The study reveals that both media types are valued for their ability to enhance differentiated instruction by addressing diverse student needs. However, the choice of media is significantly influenced by contextual factors such as school infrastructure and teacher familiarity with technology. This study concludes that teachers consider a range of practical and pedagogical factors when selecting PowerPoint and video media to support differentiated learning. Future research should explore the impact of these media on student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the obstacles to the application of mathematics teaching media in grade V of SDN 02 Ngepeh, particularly in the topics of multiplication and division. The background is the low mastery of basic arithmetic concepts, so that students often have difficulty answering questions, especially story problems. The method used was a case study with data collection through classroom observation, interviews with teachers and students, and document analysis. The findings show that even though teachers have used approaches such as material reinforcement, gradual practice, and personal guidance, the use of teaching media has not been maximized. The main challenges include teachers' limited skills in designing appropriate media, a lack of diverse, engaging teaching tools, and inadequate classroom facilities. Students appear very enthusiastic when using concrete media, visuals, and educational games that facilitate understanding of abstract concepts. This study emphasizes the need to improve teachers' abilities to create innovative media and select more effective interactive methods. The main recommendation is for teachers and schools to collaborate to develop creative teaching media to improve the quality of mathematics learning at the elementary level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of learning loss among students at SDN Gerbo VI and to examine the strategies implemented by teachers to restore basic learning skills after the period of online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with teachers and the school principal, classroom observations during remedial learning sessions, and document analysis of teaching modules, assessment results, and student progress records. The findings indicate that learning loss remains evident in several areas, particularly decreased learning motivation, weakened focus and concentration, and declining basic literacy and numeracy skills. Increased dependence on gadgets following prolonged online learning has also negatively affected students’ attention span and study habits during face-to-face instruction. To address these challenges, teachers applied various recovery strategies, including active learning through group discussions, educational games, and the use of projector-based media, all of which helped enhance student engagement and classroom participation. However, recovery efforts are still constrained by limited parental involvement due to time constraints and low educational backgrounds, resulting in minimal learning support at home. Additionally, the surrounding social environment significantly influences students’ learning behavior and consistency. This study concludes that overcoming learning loss requires sustained collaboration among teachers, parents, and the community, as well as the implementation of adaptive and varied instructional strategies to ensure more effective and continuous improvement of students’ basic learning competencies.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of Smart TVs in improving listening skills among third-grade students at Riyadul Arkham Elementary School. The background of this study stems from the low level of attention and concentration among students when participating in listening activities and the suboptimal use of Smart TVs in the classroom. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach with a descriptive method involving observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The data analysis process used the Miles and Huberman model, which includes the steps of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings from the study indicate that the use of Smart TV can effectively increase students' attention, motivation, and involvement in the listening learning process with audiovisual displays that are clearer, more interesting, and easier to understand. The visual elements, sounds, and animations displayed help students stay focused and better understand the verbal information. In addition, the success of the learning process is also influenced by the way teachers introduce the material and conduct question and answer sessions after the video is played. The suitability of audiovisual material to the cognitive development stage of students is also a major factor that supports the effectiveness of learning. Overall, the use of Smart TV has the potential to improve the quality of listening learning at the elementary school level. The results of this study recommend that training be provided for teachers and that appropriate audiovisual material be selected to maximize its implementation.

Abstract

Abstract

The 15-minute morning literacy program in elementary schools often runs as an administrative routine that has little impact on improving students' in-depth learning comprehension. This study aims to analyze and map the most effective literacy habit-forming strategies to optimize students' cognitive abilities through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. Using the PRISMA guidelines with the Scopus database (2020–2025), this study examined articles that met the inclusion criteria. The results of the analysis show that the effectiveness of morning literacy can be improved through three main strategies: integrating gamification and technology to trigger intrinsic motivation, utilizing Open Education Resources (OER) in the pre-reading phase to activate prior knowledge, and strengthening the home literacy environment through active parental involvement. The synergy of these three elements has been proven to transform passive reading activities into meaningful interactive learning experiences. This study concludes that the transformation of school literacy strategies is absolutely necessary to support students' transition from learning to read to reading to learn in a sustainable manner.
