Abstract

Outing Class learning is a contextual learning strategy that allows students to gain hands-on learning experiences in a real-world environment. This type of learning is highly relevant within the Independent Curriculum (Curriculum Merdeka), emphasizing flexibility, hands-on experience, and the development of the Pancasila Student Profile. This study aims to describe how Outing Class is implemented as a contextual learning strategy in third-grade elementary school science (IPAS) content and to identify the benefits, challenges, and strategies used by teachers. The study used descriptive qualitative methods using observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that Outing Class increases student motivation, participation, and conceptual understanding, but faces challenges such as safety risks and managing student behavior. Teachers address these challenges through briefings, group division, intensive supervision, and parental involvement. Outing Class learning is effectively implemented within the Independent Curriculum when supported by thorough planning and sound risk management.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to develop a valid, reliable, and culturally relevant evaluation instrument for assessing the pedagogical competencies of teacher candidates in the Professional Teacher Education Program (PPG) at the elementary school level, based on the Condition of Learning theory. Methodology: The study employed a quantitative approach with validation by six experts and field testing involving 100 teacher candidates. Data analysis included Cronbach's Alpha for reliability measurement. The instrument design adhered to Condition of Learning principles, integrating cultural relevance and pedagogical evaluation. Main Findings: Validation scores ranged from 4.3 to 5.0 across aspects, with a reliability score of 0.72 (Cronbach's Alpha). Evaluation results showed mean scores of 85.05 for cognitive, 80.07 for affective, and 81.14 for psychomotor competencies, indicating strong preparedness among teacher candidates. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study integrates Condition of Learning principles with cultural elements, creating a comprehensive evaluation instrument that reflects Indonesia's educational context. It provides a significant tool for improving pedagogical assessments and aligns evaluation with local values and national education standards. This research has an impact on the creation of more effective and relevant evaluation instruments, so that it can improve the quality of professional education of elementary school teachers through the application of learning conditions theory.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to analyze the influence of the Science Technology Society (STS) approach on improving students’ science process skills in science learning. The focus is to evaluate the impact of STS in improving skills such as observation, classification, interpretation, and communication of scientific findings. Methodology: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design. This study involved quantitative data analysis using t-test and N-Gain Score. Participants were students from selected junior high schools. The tools used included pretest and posttest instruments, along with an observation checklist. Main Findings: The study found a significant increase in science process skills in the experimental group using the STS approach. The experimental group had a higher mean posttest score (18.00) compared to the control group (17.00). The N-Gain score for the experimental group (0.53) was also significantly higher than the control group (0.25). Novelty/Originality of this study: This study introduces the systematic application of the STS approach to improve students’ science process skills. It offers new insights into how STS integration can create more engaging, relevant, and effective learning experiences. It contributes to the ongoing development of innovative context-based science education strategies.

Abstract

The quality of learning in elementary education increasingly demands instructional approaches that strengthen students’ conceptual understanding and critical thinking. Preliminary observations at SD Negeri 79/IV Kota Jambi showed low performance, with conceptual understanding at 43.45% and critical thinking at 40.18%. This study implemented Deep Learning as a pedagogical approach (not an artificial intelligence/machine learning technique) through staged activities of interpretation, analysis, synthesis, and reflection in the Grade 5 IPAS ecosystem unit. Using a two-cycle Classroom Action Research design (planning, action, observation, and reflection), the intervention was conducted in regular lessons (70 minutes per meeting) with 28 students. Data were collected using concept understanding tests, critical thinking assessments, and structured observation sheets of teacher and student activities. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively, while observation data were coded to capture engagement and implementation patterns. Results showed substantial gains across cycles: conceptual understanding increased from 43.45% (pre-action) to 68.20% (Cycle I) and 86.50% (Cycle II), and critical thinking improved from 40.18% to 65.10% and 84.75%. Teacher activity rose from 78% to 92% and student activity from 74% to 90%, indicating improved implementation and participation. These findings suggest that staged Deep Learning routines refined through CAR can enhance meaning construction and higher-order thinking in primary science learning.

Abstract

Urgensi penelitian ini terletak pada kebutuhan untuk menghadirkan media pembelajaran digital interaktif yang mampu meningkatkan pemahaman siswa terhadap keberagaman budaya di lingkungan sekitar secara lebih menarik dan kontekstual. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran digital berbasis Augmented Reality menggunakan Assemblr Edu pada materi keberagaman budaya di kelas IV sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dan pengembangan (Research and Development) dengan menggunakan model ADDIE yang meliputi tahap Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, dan Evaluation. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas tiga validator ahli dan 24 peserta didik kelas IV. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa lembar validasi ahli dan angket respon siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media yang dikembangkan memperoleh rata-rata validasi sebesar 82,25% dengan kategori sangat layak, yang terdiri atas validasi ahli materi sebesar 87,6%, ahli media sebesar 86,1%, dan ahli bahasa sebesar 65%. Hasil uji coba kelompok kecil memperoleh persentase 89% dan meningkat menjadi 92% pada uji coba kelompok besar dengan kategori sangat praktis. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran digital berbasis Augmented Reality menggunakan Assemblr Edu dinyatakan valid dan praktis serta berpotensi meningkatkan keterlibatan dan pemahaman siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS pada materi keberagaman budaya

Abstract

This study examines how Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK), digital literacy, and instructional design skills synergistically influence perceived impactful learning among elementary teacher education students. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was employed: quantitative data from 222 students via surveys, followed by qualitative data from 15 students through focus group interviews. Quantitative results show PCK and instructional design skills collectively explain 70% of variance in impactful learning, with balanced and strong effects, while digital literacy functions as a supporting enabler rather than primary determinant. Qualitative findings identify six facilitating factors, eight barriers, and seven moderators that contextualize competency integration patterns. The study proposes three conceptual frameworks Synergistic Competency Framework, Grade Responsive Pedagogy Framework, and Pedagogy Primacy Framework integrated within the Subject-Specific Deep Learning Pedagogy (SSDLP) model, which positions PCK as the foundational layer for technology-enhanced instruction. Conclusions emphasize that impactful learning emerges when pedagogical foundations precede technological integration, with field experience and intrinsic motivation as critical catalysts. Teacher education programs should prioritize systematic PCK development, positioning digital literacy as complementary infrastructure.

Abstract

This research aims to improve teacher activities, critical thinking skills, character of responsibility, and student learning outcomes through the application of the Discovery Learning model in the learning of science in grade IV of SD Negeri 165/IV Jambi City. The research using the Kemmis and McTaggart model methods (PTK) includes the stages of planning, implementation of actions, observation, and reflection. The subjects consisted of 18 students in grade IV. Data collection techniques use observation, tests, interviews, and documentation. The research instruments include teacher activity observation sheets, critical thinking ability observation sheets, responsibility character observation sheets, interview guidelines, and learning outcome tests that have been validated by experts. Data were analyzed using quantitative and qualitative descriptive techniques. The results of his research are that the Discovery Learning model is able to improve teacher activities, critical thinking skills, responsible character, and student learning outcomes. The increase in teacher activity can be seen in the percentage, which was originally 56% in the pre-cycle, increased by 74% in the first cycle, 88% in the second cycle, and 95% in the third cycle in the very high category. The improvement describes if the teacher gets better when carrying out the stages and managing the student-centered process. The students' critical thinking skills increased by 34% in the pre-cycle, 68% in the first cycle, 86% in the second cycle, and 94% in the third cycle. In addition, the character of student responsibility experienced a significant increase, namely 47% in the pre-cycle stage, 72% in cycle I, increased again 89% in cycle II, and reached 96% in cycle III. Not only that, the acquisition of student learning outcomes continues to increase, as reflected in the increase in the number of students who achieve learning completeness in each cycle to meet the indicators of research success. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan aktivitas guru, kemampuan critical thinking, karakter tanggung jawab, dan hasil belajar peserta didik melalui penerapan model Discovery Learning pada pembelajaran IPAS kelas IV SD Negeri 165/IV Kota Jambi. Penelitian menggunakan metode (PTK) model Kemmis dan McTaggart meliputi tahap perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Subjeknya terdiri atas 18 peserta didik kelas IV. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, tes, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Instrumen penelitian meliputi lembar observasi aktivitas guru, lembar observasi kemampuan critical thinking, lembar observasi karakter tanggung jawab, pedoman wawancara, dan tes hasil belajar yang telah divalidasi oleh ahli. Data dianalisis menggunakan teknik deskriptif kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitiannya model Discovery Learning mampu meningkatkan aktivitas guru, kemampuan critical thinking, karakter tanggung jawab, serta hasil belajar siswanya. Peningkatan aktivitas guru terlihat persentasenya yang semula 56% di pra siklus meningkat 74% di siklus I, 88% di siklus II, 95% di siklus III berkategori sangat tinggi. Peningkatan tersebut mendeskripsikan jika pengajar semakin baik ketika melaksanakan tahapannya dan mengelola prosesnya yang berpusat pada siswanya. Kemampuan critical thinking siswanya terjadi kenaikan 34% di pra siklus 68% di siklus I, 86% di siklus II, dan 94% di siklus III. Selain itu, karakter tanggung jawab siswanya alami kenaikan yang signifikan, yakni 47% ditahap prasiklus 72% di siklus I, meningkat lagi 89% di siklus II, dan mencapai 96% di siklus III. Tidak hanya itu, perolehan hasil belajar siswanya terus mengalami kenaikan, sebagaimana tercermin dari kenaikan jumlah siswanya yang mencapai ketuntasan belajar pada setiap siklus hingga memenuhi indikator keberhasilan penelitian.
