Abstract

Squat is a fundamental exercise for improving lower body strength; however, improper execution may increase the risk of musculoskeletal injury. Conventional motion analysis systems, such as marker-based technologies, provide high accuracy but require expensive equipment and controlled environments, while monocular camera-based approaches often suffer from limited three-dimensional representation. Therefore, this study proposes a low-cost squat analysis system, gui_mocap, which integrates monocular computer vision with vector-based mathematical modeling for real-time motion analysis. The system employs pose estimation to detect body landmarks and reconstructs joint kinematics in three-dimensional space using geometric vector operations. Knee joint angles are computed using the dot product formulation, and an Exponential Moving Average (EMA) filter is applied to improve measurement stability. Experimental evaluation was conducted using multiple squat repetitions to analyze motion patterns and consistency. The results demonstrate that the system can accurately identify key movement phases, including standing, deep flexion, and return to standing, while producing smooth and stable joint angle trajectories. Furthermore, the system is capable of analyzing repeated movements and generating descriptive statistics, such as average joint angles and range of motion, indicating consistent performance across repetitions. This study contributes a practical and affordable solution for real-time motion analysis using a monocular webcam, with potential applications in home-based exercise monitoring and basic rehabilitation.

Abstract

This study examined the effect of Progressive and Game-Like training methods on the shooting ability of Padang State University basketball players, considering motor skill levels (high vs low). A quasi-experimental 2x2 factorial design was used with 20 purposively selected players. Shooting ability was measured using the Basketball Jump Shooting Accuracy Test, and motor skills were assessed with the Barrow Motor Ability Test. Data analysis using two-way ANOVA revealed a significant effect of training methods on shooting ability (F = 31.296; p < 0.05) and a significant interaction between training methods and motor skill levels (F = 76.406; p < 0.05). The Game-Like Method was more effective for players with high motor skills, while the Progressive Method benefited players with low motor skills. These results highlight the importance of tailoring training methods to individual motor characteristics and suggest careful consideration of sample limitations and context in interpreting effectiveness.

Abstract

Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) learning in elementary schools is influenced by students’ learning motivation, learning environment, and motor ability. This study employed a systematic review design following PRISMA 2020 guidelines to synthesize 10 national and international studies published between 2018 and 2025, with inclusion criteria: elementary school participants, PJOK-focused outcomes, and quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-method designs. Findings indicate that intrinsic motivation enhances student participation, persistence, and readiness; supportive learning environments improve engagement, comfort, and opportunities for meaningful practice; and motor ability serves as a fundamental prerequisite for mastering movement skills. The integration of these factors highlights the need for a comprehensive approach addressing psychological, environmental, and motor-development aspects. These findings provide an evidence-based foundation for developing more effective, developmentally appropriate PJOK instructional strategies.

Abstract

Backward roll ability remains a major obstacle in gymnastics learning for children aged 11-12 years. Difficulty performing this movement stems from limited coordination, physical strength, and fear. This situation highlights the need for learning innovations that can increase children's engagement and motivation. One potential solution is the use of a Game-Based Learning approach, a learning model that integrates game elements into the movement learning process. This study aims to analyze the effect of game-based learning on backward roll ability in children aged 11-12 years. This study used a quasi-experimental research design with a posttest-only control design. Participants consisted of elementary school children divided into an experimental group and a control group. Data were collected using a gymnastics ability assessment instrument and analyzed using descriptive statistics and an independent sample t-test. The results showed that children in the experimental group performed better than those in the control group. These findings suggest that game-based learning can increase children's engagement and provide a more effective and enjoyable movement learning experience. This approach has the potential to be an innovative strategy to improve the quality of gymnastics learning in elementary schools.
