Abstract

This study aims to analyze the preferences of the Medan City community in choosing sharia insurance by considering various factors, such as the level of religiosity, financial literacy, service quality, and socio-economic aspects. This study uses a qualitative approach with an in-depth interview method with five respondents from various professional and social backgrounds. The results of the study show that the community's understanding of sharia insurance is still diverse. Some people understand the concept of mutual cooperation (ta'awun), but many still have doubts regarding the transparency of fund management and the real benefits provided. The religiosity factor plays an important role in community decisions, but the low level of financial literacy is the main obstacle in understanding the benefits of sharia insurance. In addition, the affordability of premiums, ease of the claim process, and innovation in marketing also influence community preferences. The main challenges in increasing community participation include lack of education and socialization, negative stigma towards insurance, and the assumption that sharia insurance claims are more complicated than conventional insurance. To overcome these challenges, sharia insurance companies need to improve digital-based education, involve religious figures in socialization, and develop products that are more flexible and in accordance with the needs of various segments of society. With the right strategy, sharia insurance can be a more inclusive financial protection solution that is in accordance with sharia principles.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are vital to Indonesia’s economy but continue to face barriers in financing, mentorship, and managerial capacity. Islamic Social Finance (ISF), implemented through Micro Waqf Banks (BWM), offers an inclusive solution by integrating joint liability schemes, mentoring, and capital assistance. While prior research affirms the role of ISF in enhancing access to finance and entrepreneurial growth, comparative evidence across regions with differing socio-cultural contexts remains limited. This study examines the differential effects of mentoring, joint liability, and capital provision on micro-entrepreneurial success in Aceh and North Sumatera. Using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) and Multi-Group Analysis (MGA) on responses from 350 micro-entrepreneurs, the results reveal that joint liability consistently supports enterprise performance, mentoring is more effective in Aceh, and capital provision is most beneficial in less developed areas. The findings indicate that local culture and institutional strength moderate ISF outcomes. Therefore, ISF programs should integrate standardized financial instruments with context-sensitive non-financial interventions to maximize their empowerment potential. This study contributes to the ISF literature and offers practical insights for designing regionally adaptive MSME empowerment policies.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of hedonic consumption tendency, fashion involvement, and visual merchandising on impulsive buying among Gen Z at Oh Some! Carefour Medan. The growing trend of unplanned purchases among Gen Z highlights the need to examine the emotional and visual factors that influence their purchasing behavior. A quantitative survey method was used, involving 96 respondents aged 18–24. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression in SPSS. The results show that hedonic consumption tendency and fashion involvement have a positive and significant effect on impulsive buying, while visual merchandising shows no significant effect. Simultaneously, all three variables significantly influence impulsive buying, contributing 42.5%. These findings suggest that emotional aspects and fashion involvement play a key role in shaping impulsive buying behavior among Gen Z.

Abstract

IntroductionWaqf, an Islamic endowment intended for perpetual public benefit, remains one of the least-leveraged instruments of regional development in Indonesia. In North Sumatra a large share of endowed land is legally uncertified and economically idle, reflecting weak managerial capacity and fragmented multi-stakeholder coordination.ObjectivesThis study investigates whether an institutionalized Pentahelix governance framework, uniting academia, business, community, government, and media, can transform dormant waqf assets into productive ventures that advance sustainable socio-economic goals.MethodA sequential-exploratory case-study design combined forty semi-structured interviews, extended participatory observation in five waqf institutions, and systematic document analysis of legal records, financial reports, and policy papers. Data were coded thematically using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, displayed in cross-stakeholder matrices, and triangulated to strengthen analytic credibility.ResultsFive mutually reinforcing bottlenecks emerged: limited public literacy, low professional competence among nazhir (waqf managers), protracted land-title certification, the absence of an integrated digital registry, and ad-hoc stakeholder collaboration. Universities and government agencies show relative engagement, whereas businesses and media remain peripheral, leaving community actors to operate in isolation. A five-lever blueprint, regional synergy forum, professional certification pathways, province-wide digital ledger, targeted fiscal incentives for corporate waqf, and sustained media literacy campaigns, offers an actionable route to align legal certainty, data transparency, and participatory governance.ImplicationsImplementing the proposed blueprint would unlock latent economic value, strengthen public trust, and align North Sumatra’s waqf sector with national Islamic-finance reforms and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The model balances religious legitimacy with market discipline, demonstrating how social-justice mandates can coexist with competitive financial performance.Originality/NoveltyBy integrating “hard” infrastructural prerequisites, secure certification and digital systems, with “soft” relational capital generated through Pentahelix collaboration, the research extends existing theory and supplies a replicable governance template for Islamic social finance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the monitoring system on the smoothness of People's Business Credit (KUR) payments at BSI KCP Setia Budi. Using a quantitative approach with regression analysis using SPSS version 26, the results show a positive relationship and significant influence between the monitoring system and smoothness of KUR payments, with a regression coefficient of 0.518. This finding indicates that an improved monitoring system contributes to smooth debtor payments. A structured monitoring system, supported by digital technology and employee training, allows for regular monitoring of debtor performance, reminders of due dates, and mitigation of the risk of late payments. This study recommends strengthening digitalization and regular evaluation of the monitoring system, as well as further research to explore specific indicators such as evaluation frequency and digital application usage.
