Abstract

The integration of local potential and wisdom into science learning makes learning more meaningful and can instil local wisdom values. However, the fact is that there are still many teachers who experience difficulties in integrating local potential and wisdom, so it is necessary to carry out community service activities which aim to increase teacher understanding in implementing local potential and wisdom into science learning. The method in this community service activity is a workshop held online via Zoom meeting on 12 16 July 2022. 78 science teachers throughout Indonesia attended the activity. Teacher understanding data was obtained through questionnaires which were distributed before and after the workshop was held. In general, workshop participants' understanding increased between before and after the workshop was held. In addition, the participants' evaluation of the community service implementation was generally in the good and very good categories. Thus it was concluded that this workshop activity could increase science teachers' understanding in making teaching materials based on local potential and wisdom.

Abstract

In recent years, 21st-century skills have been described as a necessary skill that a person must possess to succeed in today's era. Therefore, this study aims to enhance students' communication and collaboration skills through STEM learning with a Simple Hydraulic Pump project at junior high school level. Quantitative research with a quasi-experimental with pre-post-test control group research design was used as the method for this study. The participants are 38 students out of 228 8th-grade students in two separate Junior Secondary School located in Bandung, Indonesia. The data is obtained through results from the pretest-post-test. A statistical test is applied using Wilcoxon Signed Test. The result shows that there is a non-significant gain compared from control group in communication skill indicated by its significance value being 0.67, or sig. >0.05. Meanwhile, there is a significant increase in collaboration skill gain compared to control group, indicated by its significance value being 0.03, or sig. <0.05. This means that there is a non-significant difference between pre-test and post-test result for student’s communication skill while there is a significant difference between pre-test and post-test result for student’s collaboration skills when compared to control group. Using Cohen d effect size, it is evident that the effect size for collaboration skill is (r=.22) which is considered as medium increase. Students’ communication and collaboration skills are measured using Performance Assessment Rubric. Based on the result, STEM learning using simple hydraulic pump project could enhance student collaboration skills but not communication skills. This implies that STEM learning can be used in improving collaboration skill, but other methods might be needed in order to help improve communication skills in students.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of question box- assited tgt model on class v science learning outcomes of sdn 19 palembang. This type of research is quantitative research with experimental methods in the form of Quasi Experimental with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design research design. The population in this study was all class V consisting of 2 classes and totaling 56 people. Determining the sample in this research uses a purposive sampling technique, so there are 2 classes, namely V.A as the experimental class and V.B as the control class. The form of data collection technique is using observation, test and documentation techniques. In observations, the average student score was 87.05% with good criteria and the average teacher score was 90% with very good criteria. The data analysis technique uses parametric statistical tests through the N-Gain hypothesis test and the N-Gain test. The N-Gain hypothesis test used the Independent Sample T-Test which obtained t_count = 2.924 and t_table = 2.004 and a 2 tailed significant value of 0.005. Thus, the T test results show that 2,924 > 2,004 and the significant value is 0.005 (<0.05), so it can be concluded that H_0 is rejected and H_a is accepted. Meanwhile, looking at N-Gain value for the experimental class, it was found to be 0.6573 or 66%, which is included in the medium category. Meanwhile, the average N-Gain value for the control class was 0.4181 or 42%. Based on the research results obtained, the application of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model assisted by Question Box media to student learning outcomes in Class V science subjects at SD Negeri 19 Palembang is quite effective.

Abstract

Education is a key driver in cultivating a skilled generation, providing innovative STEM learning to enhance future prospects. This research analysed the effect of STEM project-based Learning in optical instrument topics on students' attitudes and perception towards STEM. Conducted through a quasi-experimental method, the research drew its sample from 8th-grade students in a junior high school in Bandung, Indonesia, evenly split between control (n=30) and experimental (n=30) classes. The control class is taught by project-based learning, while STEM PJBL taught to the experimental class. The result of this study was an N-Gain of students' attitudes towards STEM in experimental class showed a 0.11, which is still categorized as low enhancement. The T-test result (asymp. sig. (2-tailed) = 0.54) also shows no significant difference between the control and experimental classes. Furthermore, engineering and technology are favored STEM subscale, seen as fostering creativity subscale, followed by science, which students' enjoy most of science with no counting lesson, However, most students hold a negative view of mathematics subscale due to the complexity of formulas provided in the lesson. Based on this research, STEM-PJBL should be applied in creative, innovative, and consistent ways within the science class to get a higher shift in students' attitudes.
