Abstract

Latar Belakang: Konsumsi makronutrien secara berlebihan dapat menyebabkan obesitas yang secara tidak langsung dapat mengakibatkan resistensi insulin sehingga terjadinya hiperglikemia yang dapat memicu penyakit degeneratif seperti diabetes melitus. Objektif: Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui korelasi antara konsumsi makronutrien dengan gula darah puasa pada penderita obesitas. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian analitik dengan pendekatan cross-sectional menggunakan data sekunder berupa data indeks massa tubuh, gula darah, dan makronutrien yang dinilai menggunakan food recall 2 x24 jam. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 40 orang. Analisis data menggunakan analisis data univariat dan bivariat dengan korelasi Spearman. Hasil: Rerata total energi 1.707,9 gram/hari, karbohidrat 219,93 gram/hari, protein 62,56 gram/har, lemak 64,30 gram/hari. Tidak terdapat korelasi yang bermakna antara konsumsi karbohidrat (p=0,645), protein (p=0,776), dan lemak (0,876) terhadap kadar gula darah puasa. Kesimpulan: Tidak terdapat korelasi yang bermakna antara konsumsi makronutrien dengan kadar glukosa darah puasa pada penderita obesitas. Hal ini disebabkan karena faktor lain seperti usia, jenis kelamin, keturunan, dan lain-lain.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Miastenia gravis adalah penyakit neurologi autoimun yang jarang terjadi, namun sangat mempengaruhi kualitas hidup pasien dikarenakan tingkat keparahan yang cukup tinggi. Plasmaferesis digunakan sebagai salah satu pilihan terapi pada kondisi ini. Objektif: Tinjauan Naratif ini bertujuan untuk menilai penelitian terkait efektivitas terapi plasmaferesis terhadap miastenia gravis. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan tinjauan literatur terhadap 7 artikel penelitian yang dipublikasi pada rentang tahun 2019-2023. Sumber pangkalan data yang digunakan adalah Pubmed, Science Direct, dan ProQuest. Artikel dilakukan penyeleksian berdasarkan kriteria eligibilitas yang telah ditentukan. Hasil: Menurut artikel yang dilakukan tinjauan, diketahui bahwa plasmaferesis dapat memberikan luaran klinis yang baik pada pasien. Plasmaferesis juga mampu meningkatkan kualitas hidup pasien secara signifikan. Kesimpulan: Semua literatur sepakat menyatakan bahwa plasmaferesis efektif digunakan sebagai terapi pada miastenia gravis.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Proses degeneratif akan terjadi seiring bertambahnya usia yang kemudian akan menyebabkan terjadinya penurunan pada fungsi immediate memory. Untuk menigkatkan fungsi memori seseorang maka perlu peningkatan aktivitas fisik dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Objektif: Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui hubungan aktivitas fisik dengan immediate memory pada lansia. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian analitik dengan metode cross sectional. Teknik pengambilan sampel dengan menggunakan metode consecutive sampling dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 79 responden. Pengumpulan data responden didapat melalui pengisian kuesioner dan dianalisis menggunakan Fisher’s Exact Test. Hasil: Hasil penelitian ini menggambarkan bahwa kelompok usia terbanyak adalah usia 55-65 tahun (39,2%). Lebih dari setengah lansia merupakan perempuan (82,3%). Sebagian besar responden memiliki riwayat pendidikan rendah (89,9%) dan sebagian besar lansia tidak bekerja (74,7%). Mayoritas lansia melakukan tingkat aktivitas fisik sedang (64,6%). Kesimpulan: Tidak terdapat hubungan antara aktivitas fisik dengan immediate memory pada lansia di Puskesmas Sikapak Kecamatan Pariaman Utara Kota Pariaman (p> 0,05).

Abstract

Kelainan metabolik seperti diabetes mellitus dan obesitas sering dihubungkan dengan peningkatan kadar asam urat, yang dapat digunakan sebagai penanda inflamasi ataupun juga untuk memprediksi komplikasi metabolik dan kardiovaskuler pada penderita dengan obesitas dan diabetes mellitus. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara kadar asam urat dengan kadar gula darah puasa penderita diabetes mellitus tipe 2 yang mengalami obesitas. Jenis penelitian adalah analitik dengan desain potong lintang, dilakukan di Poliklinik Penyakit Dalam dan Laboratorium Patologi Klinik RS. Dr. M. Djamil Padang pada bulan Mei – September 2013. Sampel adalah penderita DM tipe 2 yang mengalami obesitas, memenuhi kriteria, datang berobat jalan, diambil secara random sampling, sebanyak 30 orang, merupakan darah vena dari pasien puasa selama 10-12 jam dan menghindari makanan yang mengandung purin. Pemeriksaan asam urat dengan metode kolorimetrik enzimatik, panjang gelombang 552 nm. Data dianalisis secara korelasi dan bermakna jika p<0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukan rerata umur yaitu 57,22±6,27 tahun, sebahagian besar berjenis kelamin perempuan dan nilai rerata indeks massa tubuh adalah 28,86±2,92. Terlihat kadar asam urat 6,36±1,32 mg/dL dan gula darah puasa 153,69±47,04 mg/dL. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat korelasi yang sangat lemah dan tidak berhubungan secara statistik antara kadar asam urat dengan gula darah puasa penderita DM tipe 2 dengan obesitas.

Abstract

The majority of people of Nagari Carocok Anau Kec. Tarusan Kab. Pesisir Selatan worked as a fisherman, farmer, a small number of civil servants and market traders, as well as a housewife. Pregnant women in Nagari Carocok Anau, most of whom are housewives, still do not receive health checks such as haemoglobin (Hb) checks. This activity aims to increase knowledge among the public and health cadres regarding anaemia and Hb examination in pregnant women, as well as treatment. The health of pregnant women is checked by checking blood pressure, Hb and medication. This Hb examination is an effort to minimize abnormalities that can occur in pregnant women and fetuses due to low Hb when the mother is pregnant. The examination results showed that more than half of the pregnant women (71.43%) who attended were in the age range 18 – 35 years. Nearly half (42.86%) of pregnant women had Hb levels below the normal limit (11 mg/dl). For a more valid diagnosis, it is necessary to carry out quantitative analysis from the hospital laboratory so that follow-up can be carried out. Education about anaemia and Hb examinations in pregnant women can increase people's knowledge so that preventive measures can be carried out early. Health checks on the general public (blood pressure, Hb) and treatment were also carried out, it was found that the Hb results were within normal limits.

Abstract

Background Hyperglycemia is a medical condition that increases blood glucose levels beyond normal limits because the body lacks enough insulin or insulin does not work properly and is known to trigger oxidative stress. In cells sensitive to Hyperglycemia, such as endothelial cells, excessive glucose loads trigger the formation of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) in mitochondria, impairing mitochondrial function. ROS are essential mediators for activating pro-inflammatory signaling pathways; obesity and hyperglycemia-induced ROS production may support the induction of proinflammatory macrophages such as M1 during the onset and development of diabetes. Consumption of olive oil can increase plasma antioxidant capacity and reduce oxidative stress markers. Methods This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of olive oil antioxidants against Malondialdehyde (MDA) in hyperglycemic rats. This is an experimental design with a post-test-only group design. Adult male Wistar rats were divided into three groups (n = 8): negative control (K-), positive control (K+), and treatment (P). The normality test was conducted using the Shapiro-Wilk test, followed by Kruskal Wallis. Results The olive oil was proven to reduce levels of Malondialdehyde in the P group, with an average of 2.29 nmol/mL lower than the K+ group. Although the olive oil reduced the average MDA level in hyperglycemic rats, the post-hoc test showed no difference in MDA between the K+ and P groups (p-value = 0.226). Conclusions Antioxidants in olive oil may effectively lower blood glucose levels, reducing levels of Malondialdehyde in hyperglycemic rats.

Abstract

Neonatal sepsis is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in neonates. Bacteria are the most common cause of neonatal sepsis. The appropriate empirical therapy is given based on the bacterial pattern and sensitivity at the site. The appropriate use of empirical antibiotics can help reduce the neonatal mortality rate. This study aimed to evaluate bacterial patterns and antibiotic sensitivity in neonatal sepsis patients at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang period 2018-2021. This study is a descriptive study that used a total sampling method with 63 samples that met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that neonatal sepsis was most commonly found in neonates aged 4-28 days, which were mostly male, had a birth weight < 2500 grams, had a mortality rate of 25.4%, and neonatal pneumonia was the most comorbid disease. The most common causative bacteria were Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus haemolyticus. Klebsiella pneumoniae is sensitive to amikacin, tigecycline, meropenem, and ertapenem. Staphylococcus haemolyticus was sensitive to tigecycline, nitrofurantoin, vancomycin, linezolid, and quinupristin / dalfopristin. This study concluded that the most common bacteria causing neonatal sepsis were Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus haemolyticus. Klebsiella pneumoniae was sensitive to amikacin, tigecycline, meropenem, and ertapenem. Staphylococcus haemolyticus was sensitive to tigecycline, nitrofurantoin, vancomycin, linezolid, and quinupristin / dalfopristin. Clinicians are expected to review the clinical practice guidelines for neonatal sepsis to suit bacterial patterns and their sensitivity to antibiotics.

Abstract

Blastocystis sp. are the most common intestinal protists in human and animal faeces. Blastocystis sp infection associated with inhibition of celluler immunity due to an increase in cytokines resulting in an increase in the number of leukocytes. This study was conducted to determine the correlation between Blastocystis sp infection and leukocyte count. This experimental study with a post test only control group design, used male Wistar white rats (Rattus norvegicus). Blastocystis sp infection in rats assessed by performing microscopic examination of rat faeces and culture. Leukocytes count examination was carried out using a counting chamber. Data analysis was carried out using the One Way Anova Test. The final results obtained were the mean number of leukocytes in treatment group 1 (P1), treatment 2 (P2) negative control (K-) respectively, 6171.43 cells/mm3, 6866.67 cells/mm3 , and 7742.86 cells/mm3 mm3. The p value of One Way Anova p = 0.7 (p > 0.05). The conclusion is the administration of Blastocystis sp. did not significantly influence the number of rat leukocytes.Keywords: blastocystis sp; leukocyte count; rattus norvegicus

Abstract

Lead (Pb), a heavy metal recognized as a hazardous environmental toxin, triggers oxidative stress by catalyzing oxidation reactions that produce free radicals, ultimately leading to cell death. Liver cell damage due to lead can decrease serum albumin levels, while kidney damage can increase serum uric acid levels. To counteract this oxidative stress, the intake of exogenous antioxidants is necessary. Java plum (Syzygium cumini) leaves are abundant in natural antioxidants, including flavonoids and phenolic compounds. The compounds possess antioxidant potential by scavenging free radicals. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of an extract of S. cumini on serum albumin and uric acid in rats induced with lead acetate. All treatments lasted 30 days. Testing for serum albumin and uric acid was performed using the DiaSys method. One-way ANOVA followed by the Bonferroni post hoc test revealed significant differences (p < 0.05) in serum albumin levels among the groups: the normal group (4.13 g/dL), the positive control (2.86 g/dL), and the treatment group (3.93 g/dL). Similarly, significant differences were observed in serum uric acid levels: the normal group (1.47 mg/dL), the positive control (3.14 mg/dL), and the treatment group (1.64 mg/dL). These results indicate that S. cumini extract helps mitigate the adverse effects of lead exposure on serum albumin and uric acid levels in rats. A p-value of less than 0.05 indicates that the observed differences are statistically significant and unlikely due to chance.

Abstract

Lead (Pb) is a toxic metal that is used to trigger oxidative stress. Oxidative stress causes damage to organs, especially the liver increasing aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT). This study aims to determine the synergistic effect of antioxidant as Java plum leaf extract and vitamin C together on lead-induced levels of AST and ALT in rats.This type of research is true experimental research with a randomized posttest-only-control group design. The study used 20 male white rats which were divided into 4 groups. The treatment was carried out for 30 days. The examination for AST and ALT levels using the Micro Lab 300 with the Sample Star method. Data analysis was performed by using One-way Anova and Post Hoc-Turkey HSD.In this study, The results were obtained in the form of a decrease in AST and ALT levels in rats that had been induced lead acetate 40 mg/KgBW by administration of Java plum leaf extract dose 75 mg/KgBW and vitamin C dose 35 mg/KgBW as well as the administration of Java plum leaf extract at a dose of 150 mg / KgBB and vitamin C dose of 75 mg / KgBB with significant influence at the lower dose (p=0,01).It can be concluded that administrating of Java plum leaf extract dose 75 mg/KgBB and vitamin C dose 35 mg/KgBB was effective to protect the liver based on the decrease of AST and ALT levels in rats that had been induced lead acetate dose 40 mg/KgBB
