Abstract

Seagrass ecosystem is one of the shallow marine ecosystems that plays an important role in supporting the life and development of organisms in shallow seas, namely as a primary producer, habitat for biota, capturing sediment and nutrients in the waters. This study aims to determine the diversity and density of seagrass species in the waters of Tontayuo Village. This research was conducted in April-August 2022. Observation of the diversity and density of seagrass species used the 1 x 1 meter sample plot method. The research location is divided into three stations based on the presence of seagrass. Data analysis includes density and diversity index. The observation results show that the area of seagrass is 1.2 Ha. Eight species of seagrass found in this area consist of Thalassia hemprichii, Cymodocea serrulata, Syringrodium isoetifolium, Halodule pinifolia, Halodule uninervis, Halophila minor, Halophila ovalis and Cymodocea rotundata. All of these seagrass species have a very dense density. However, the diversity of seagrass species in this area is low.

Abstract

Abstract

Waste, particularly plastic, poses a serious threat to coastal ecosystems in the Anambas Islands, Riau Islands Province. This community service program collaborated with LKKPN Pekabaru and Yayasan Jaga Mangkai aimed to enhance environmental literacy, raise awareness on waste management, and introduce the potential of mangrove waste (Bruguiera gymnorhiza) as raw material for environmentally friendly bioplastic. The methods included educational sessions, interactive discussions, coastal clean-up activities, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The results revealed that from 407.1 kg, 69% of the collected waste consisted of non-plastic categories. Laboratory tests on mangrove waste indicated the presence of active compounds with potential for bioplastic production. Questionnaire evaluation showed a significant improvement in community understanding, with average scores exceeding 50% in aspects of waste knowledge, bioplastic innovation, and attitudes toward environmental management. In conclusion, the program effectively increased ecological awareness and highlighted the potential for local innovation based on coastal resources. Nevertheless, follow-up programs are necessary to ensure that improved knowledge is transformed into sustainable daily practices in waste management.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance knowledge, foster a sense of patriotism, and strengthen the national identity of Indonesian children living abroad through an educational program introducing Indonesian islands and culture. Children living in foreign environments tend to interact more frequently with foreign cultures, potentially leading to a lack of familiarity with their own national culture. Therefore, this activity was designed as a fun and easily understandable learning experience to ensure children remain connected to their roots. The method used was qualitative descriptive research employing direct observation of 30–40 participants over a two-week period. The program was implemented in several stages: orientation, presentation of materials, video screenings, drawing and coloring activities, and traditional games. The results showed that participants demonstrated increased knowledge of the names of major islands in Indonesia as well as various regional cultures, such as traditional attire, dances, and folk songs. Additionally, the program successfully fostered a sense of pride, boosted self-confidence, and strengthened camaraderie among participants. The children appeared enthusiastic and active in every activity provided. Thus, this educational program proved effective as a means to introduce Indonesian culture while strengthening the national identity of Indonesian children abroad through engaging and enjoyable learning methods.
