Abstract

This paper is a monograph of an academic research paper entitled The Implementation of Classroom-Based Assessment within the English Secondary School Teachers in Riau Province-Indonesia (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, 2012). Chronologically, it discloses such aspects as the changes of curriculum, the ignorance of productive skills, the functions of English in ASEAN economic community, the authentic teaching & learning, the authentic teaching materials, the authentic assessment, the related study, and the implications & recommendations.

Abstract

This research aimed at evaluating the profile of teachers after the implementation of the certification program within the periods of 2006– 2015. The sample of this research was 367 teachers in Riau Province-Indonesia. Since this research evaluated input, process, and inhibiting factors in conducting pedagogy, professional, and the combination of pedagogy & professional competencies; the Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP) evaluation model was used. The research findings revealed that in the input factor, the aspects of knowledge on technology, information & communication (2.8856) and materials, structure, concept, & professional mindset (2.9319) were at a moderate level. Meanwhile, in the process factor, the aspects of reflective action for the improvement of learning quality (2.7036); and use of technology, information, communication dealing with self improvement (2.8283) were also in moderate level; but in low level for the aspect of creativity in material development  In case of inhibiting factors, teachers have problems with copying facilities of learning materials, test, & quiz (65.7%); compulsory teaching load per week (73.0%); activities of classroom and subject teachers working group (67.6%); the utilization of school operation fund (76.3%); the process of promotion (65.4%); appointed to have additional jobs (95.6%); certification fund (50.1%); school library (22.9%); workshop, training, upgrading for teachers (43.6%); and reduction of certification fund (31.6%). However, there was no significant difference in the factors of input and process viewed from the aspects of types of teachers, academic qualification, teaching experience, and gender.

Abstract

This paper aimed at evaluating such aspects as self-efficacy, research methodology, types of supervisor, and academic writing ability in accelerating students accomplishing final papers. 214 students of bachelor and master programs at Universitas Riau - Indonesia were selected through purposive sampling technique as the participants. This research used Context, Input, Process, and Product Evaluation Model to evaluate those variables. The research findings revealed that (a) there was no significant difference in self-efficacy on the aspects of gender and learning support facilities; (b) in research methodology on the aspect of gender; (c) in academic writing ability on the aspects of gender; and (d) in types of supervisors on the aspects of gender, sources of educational cost, and learning support facilities. However, (a) there was a significant difference in self efficacy on the aspects of the profession, and sources of educational cost; (b) in research methodology on the aspects of the profession, sources of educational cost, and learning support facilities (c) in academic writing ability on the aspects of the profession, sources of educational support, and learning support facilities; and (d) in types of supervisors on the aspect of the profession. In conclusion, self efficacy contributed 59.7%; research methodology 10.4% and types of supervisor 0.1% ---- which is a totally of 70.2% towards the students’ academic writing ability in accelerating students accomplishing final papers.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate students’ ability to comprehend narrative text. This study was conducted at one school in Riau Island province. The name of the school is deliberately anonymous considering the research ethics. Eighty students were recruited and participated in this study while 28 of them were selected as the sample using purposive sampling. To attain data, five sets of narrative text questions were employed. Each set comprises eight questions that indicate reading components; factual information, main ideas, meaning of certain words, references, generic structure, language features, and social functions. Data were calculated by using Microsoft Excel 2016. The findings show that the mean score of their ability in comprehending components of reading was 47% while comprehending narrative texts at 53% so their total at 50% and categorized into medium level. The finding of research also showed that the lowest ability for students was in answering questions about finding the meaning of certain words at 43%. It is suggested that students must do more practice in reading, then they should learn more about the eight components of reading comprehension of narrative texts such as factual information, main ideas, vocabulary, references, inferences, generic structure, language features, and social functions. Then learn reading strategies such as schema, skimming and scanning.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi tantangan dan peluang dalam pelaksanaan supervisi pendidikan di SMAN 3 Siak Hulu serta merumuskan strategi supervisi yang adaptif dan kontekstual. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus, data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi, lalu dianalisis menggunakan model interaktif Miles dan Huberman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tantangan supervisi mencakup ketiadaan pelatihan formal bagi supervisor, karakter guru yang sulit berubah dan resistensi terhadap evaluasi. Sementara itu, peluang muncul melalui dukungan kebijakan nasional, pemanfaatan teknologi, dan penguatan supervisi reflektif berbasis data. Penelitian ini berkontribusi dalam memperluas pemahaman mengenai supervisi sebagai proses pembinaan profesional yang partisipatif, bukan sekadar kontrol administratif. Kesimpulan menekankan pentingnya supervisi kolaboratif sebagai katalisator perubahan budaya belajar dan profesionalisme guru. Penelitian lanjutan disarankan untuk memperluas cakupan konteks dan menguji efektivitas model supervisi berbasis refleksi dalam berbagai jenjang pendidikan.

Abstract

Supervisi akademik merupakan komponen penting dalam peningkatan mutu pendidikan, namun pendekatan konvensional yang masih dominan kerap menemui hambatan seperti minimnya pelibatan guru dan absennya penggunaan data objektif. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis strategi implementasi supervisi berbasis data sebagai pendekatan alternatif yang lebih efektif dan kontekstual. Dengan menggunakan metode literature review, sumber-sumber akademik dikumpulkan dari database seperti Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, dan DOAJ, dengan rentang tahun 2015–2024. Seleksi dilakukan secara ketat berdasarkan relevansi tema, keterkinian, dan validitas ilmiah. Analisis data dilakukan melalui coding tematik dan sintesis naratif, serta validasi dilakukan dengan triangulasi sumber. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa supervisi berbasis data memiliki karakteristik sistematis, berkelanjutan, dan berbasis teknologi, serta berdampak positif terhadap peningkatan kinerja guru dan capaian belajar siswa. Pendekatan ini memungkinkan kepala sekolah merancang intervensi yang tepat guna dan menyusun program pelatihan berbasis kebutuhan nyata. Namun, implementasinya menghadapi tantangan berupa rendahnya literasi data, keterbatasan infrastruktur digital, serta resistensi guru terhadap supervisi yang bersifat evaluatif. Strategi kolaboratif, forum reflektif, dan penguatan kapasitas supervisor menjadi kunci keberhasilan pelaksanaan supervisi berbasis data. Kajian ini merekomendasikan pengembangan instrumen supervisi berbasis bukti serta riset lanjutan di wilayah 3T untuk memperluas model implementasi yang adaptif dan inklusif

Abstract

This study aims to describe the influence of Spiritual Intelligence and Social Competence partially and jointly on the performance of junior high school teachers in Sinaboi District, Rokan Hilir Regency. There are still teachers who are less responsible in carrying out their duties and often leave teaching hours to complete personal interests and are indifferent to their duties, and there are teachers who are not able to complete the tasks given to them properly such as not being picket and other additional tasks. This type of research is descriptive quantitative research. The data collection technique used a questionnaire from 55 teachers. The research method was carried out, namely the respondents gave responses to the questionnaire in the form of a Likert scale. Analysis of the data used descriptive and inferential statistics. The magnitude of the influence generated by spiritual intelligence on teacher performance is 62.7%. The result shows that spiritual intelligence has a significant effect on teacher performance, which is accepTable. The magnitude of the effect produced by social competence on teacher performance is 65.1%. The magnitude of the effect produced by spiritual intelligence and social competence together on teacher performance is 69%. It can be stated that spiritual intelligence and social competence have a significant effect on accepTable teacher performance.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the perceptions of the third-year students of the English Department Universitas Riau in using the Webtoon application to enrich English vocabulary. This research used a quantitative descriptive method approach and involved 30 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were gathered via a Likert-scale-based questionnaire distributed via WhatsApp. The findings showed a generally positive perception among students concerning the Webtoon application's usefulness, ease of use, and attitude toward using. This can be seen from the questionnaire's mean score, which reached 4.04, involving perceived usefulness (3.87), perceived ease of use (4.15), and attitude towards using (4.10). This research also found that most Webtoon application users are females, who tend to have more positive perceptions than males. In addition, students who used the free version and those who spent more time using the application showed better perceptions of vocabulary enrichment than those who used the paid version. In conclusion, third-year students of the English Department Universitas Riau positively perceive using the Webtoon application for vocabulary enrichment. They find it accessible, easy to use, and effective in enhancing their vocabulary and confidence in English through its engaging visual and narrative features.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the Influence of Principal's Academic Supervision and Work Commitment on Teachers' Teaching Performance at SMK N 1 Barumun, Padang Lawas Regency. This type of research is quantitative with the method used in this study is a survey method with a sampling technique, namely Random sampling, namely random sampling. The data collection technique used in this study is a questionnaire using a Likert scale. The results of this study indicate that there is an Influence of Principal Academic Supervision and Work Commitment on Teacher Teaching Performance with an F count of 68.091 and a significance of 0.000. Using the level of ???? (Alpha) = 0.05 or 5% shows that the calculation of f count 68.091> ftable 3.11 and the Sig. value. (0.000) <0.05, it can be concluded that the variables of academic supervision (X1) and work commitment (X2) simultaneously have a significant influence on teacher teaching performance at SMKN 1 Barumun, Padang Lawas Regency. and its significance is less than 0.05 (0.000 <0.05) meaning that ????a is accepted and ????0 is rejected. This means that partially there is a significant influence of Principal Academic Supervision and Work Commitment on Teacher Teaching Performance at SMK N 1 Barumun, Padang Lawas Regency. R2 value of 0.636, this means that the variables of academic supervision and work commitment contribute to the teacher performance variable by 63.6%, while the remaining 36.4% is influenced by other variables not examined in this study. This shows a significant influence of the Principal's Academic Supervision and Work Commitment on Teacher Teaching Performance at SMK N 1 Barumun, Padang Lawas Regency.

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to provide a detailed and in-depth description of the results obtained after the implementation of the character education program in the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project at SMK Negeri 2 Pekanbaru. The study uses the CIPP model, which considers the aspects of Context, Input, Process and Product to comprehensively evaluate the program in question. This evaluation is a qualitative approach through a descriptive case study. The data needed for this assessment were collected through various methods such as interviews, field observations and analysis of related documents. The data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. Data sources come from the principal, vice principal in charge of curriculum, vice principal in charge of student affairs, school treasurer, head of administrative staff, the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project coordination team, teachers of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project, parents of students and students. The results of the study indicate that the character education program in the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project has been implemented well by SMK Negeri 2 Pekanbaru. At the context stage, the average achievement level is 93% with a good category; at the input stage, it is 82.18% with a good category; at the process stage, it is 85% with a good category; and at the results stage, it is 75% in the pretty good category. The characteristics that are strengthened in the implementation of the character education program in the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project, in general, are strengthening respect between fellow students and teachers and being able to take responsibility for their role as students at SMK Negeri 2 Pekanbaru.
