Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant learning loss among Indonesian students, particularly at the junior secondary level. This disruption highlights the urgent need for effective strategies to restore educational quality. The Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework offers a promising approach for integrating technology into teaching to mitigate such losses. This study involved 719 junior high school teachers from Riau Province, selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire measuring teachers’ TPACK competence, technology utilization, and efforts to mitigate learning loss. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS, including path and correlation analyses. The findings reveal that both the construction and utilization of TPACK-based ICT significantly contributed to reducing learning loss, with a combined influence of 88.7%. Teachers with strong TPACK competencies demonstrated greater effectiveness in implementing technology-enhanced learning. However, challenges such as low digital literacy and unequal access to infrastructure remain significant barriers. These results underscore the strategic role of teacher competence and infrastructure readiness in addressing post-pandemic learning gaps. The strong correlation between TPACK use and learning loss mitigation suggests that targeted professional development and digital transformation policies are essential. Improving TPACK competence among educators and enhancing digital infrastructure are critical to mitigating learning loss. The study advocates for national policies that institutionalize TPACK-based training and equitable technology access to promote pedagogical innovation and reduce educational disparities.

Abstract

The lack of local content-based material in Reading and Writing (RW) courses has contributed to tertiary students' low cultural awareness ability in Indonesia. Technology has increased the use of hypermedia text in RW in learning. This study aimed to develop a local-content-based e-module to improve students' cultural awareness in the RW course. The Research and Development (RD) method was applied through the need analysis, product development, field trial, and dissemination steps. Two media experts and two content experts participated in this study. Thirty-three students were selected purposively as the research sample. Questionnaires using a Likert scale of 1-4 and interviews were used to collect the data. Descriptive statistics and one-to-one analysis were applied in this study.   The research found that the media expert validity score was 95%, the content expert validity score was 95%, and the students' validity score was 90%. It means that the e-module was very valid. It was also interpreted that 89% of students were motivated to learn  RW course using a local wisdom-based e-module, and  90% agreed that the local wisdom-based e-module improved their cultural awareness. Tertiary students in Indonesia could use an e-module based on local wisdom, especially in RW courses.

Abstract

Teacher pedagogical competence remains a critical concern in Indonesia's educational landscape, particularly during the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum. While transformational leadership and professional learning communities have been identified as influential factors, limited research has examined their combined effects in rural contexts. This study investigated the individual and simultaneous influence of school principals' transformational leadership and Ruang GTK learning community engagement on teachers' pedagogical competence in junior high schools. Employing an explanatory quantitative design, this study utilized census sampling involving all 75 teachers from four junior high schools in Koto Gasib District, Riau Province. Data were collected using validated Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed through multiple linear regression. Both transformational leadership (β = 0.212, p = 0.002) and learning community engagement (β = 0.489, p = 0.000) significantly influenced pedagogical competence. Simultaneously, these variables explained 61.3% of the variance in pedagogical competence (R² = 0.613, F = 57.146, p = 0.000). A strong correlation between transformational leadership and learning communities (r = 0.763) revealed a synergistic relationship. Learning communities demonstrated stronger direct effects than transformational leadership on pedagogical competence. The synergistic relationship between both factors suggests that integrated interventions targeting leadership development and collaborative learning platforms yield optimal outcomes for enhancing teacher quality during curriculum reform implementation in resource-constrained settings.

Abstract

This article focuses on the study that aims to find out the levels and the major causes of speaking anxiety experienced by the third-year students at SMPN 2 Bayat of Anambas Island. Total sampling was used in this research since the pool of participants was relatively small consisting of 13 students overall. In collecting the data, students were asked to fill out a set based on a modified version of the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) questionnaire developed by Horwitz et al (1986). After analyzing the data, it was found that most students experienced speaking anxiety on a moderate level. The results suggested that 4 students with a percentage of 30.77% were classified as a high level, 9 students with a percentage of 69.23% were classified as a moderate level and none of the students or 0% was classified to have a low level of anxiety. Additionally, “lack of preparation”, “afraid of being laughed at” and “afraid of being called in English classes” were the major causes of speaking anxiety that most participants agreed with. Thus, some suggestions were provided with the expectation of reducing students’ anxiety while speaking English.

Abstract

This paper discusses an experimental research study regarding the effect of PQRST (Preview, Question, Read, Summary, and Test) strategy on reading comprehension of the first-year students at SMAN 1 of Sabak Auh Siak. The study shows that 65% of the students have difficulties in comprehending the reading passage about a descriptive text. Based on the students’ reading indicators, it can be identified that they have difficulties in determining the main idea, locating references, understanding vocabulary, making inferences, and finding detailed information. This study uses a quantitative method on a true experimental design of two groups of first-year students using pre-test and post-test. The study involves 44 students, divided into two classes: the control class with 21 students and the experimental class with 23 students. The instrument is a test that consists of questions with multiple choices and four options (A/B/C/D). In order to analyze the data formula, statistical software namely SPSS version 23 is used to analyze the results of the study. The significant effect of PQRST (Preview, Question, Read, Summary, and Test) strategy on reading comprehension at the first-year students of SMAN 1 Sabak Auh in Kabupaten Siak (2-tailed) is. 000 ˂ .005, which means that the H0 is rejected, while Ha is accepted. Thus, there is a significant effect on first-year students' reading comprehension in descriptive text between the students who are taught by applying the PQRST strategy and those who are not.

Abstract

This article examines the effect of job burnout and managerial competency on the performance of private junior high school principals in Pekanbaru, Riau Province. The study used a quantitative correlational research design involving 83 school principals. Data were analyzed using simple and multiple linear regression techniques. The results showed that job burnout significantly affected principals’ performance (Fcount = 21.484 > Ftable = 3.96, p < 0.05), and managerial competency also had a significant effect (Fcount = 93.401 > Ftable = 3.96, p < 0.05). Furthermore, job burnout and managerial competency simultaneously influenced principals’ performance (Fcount = 60.177 > Ftable = 3.11, p < 0.05), accounting for 60.1% of the variation, with the remaining 39.9% attributed to other factors.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to bridge this gap by systematically synthesizing empirical findings from a diverse set of studies to construct a comprehensive and integrative model for building educational leadership capacity. Methods: Employing a systematic literature synthesis approach, this research critically analyzed 10 empirical studies (3 from Indonesian national journals, 7 from international publications) using a comparative thematic analysis framework to identify core constructs, effective practices, and contextual variables. Results: The synthesis culminated in the development of an integrative model composed of four interconnected pillars: (1) Foundational Values and Ethical Character, (2) Collaborative and Relational Competencies, (3) Enabling Organizational Systems and Structures, and (4) Continuous, Job-Embedded Learning Processes. The model positions leadership as a dynamic, developmental capacity that is cultivated at the intersection of individual growth and systemic support. Implications: The proposed model provides an actionable framework for policymakers, educational leaders, and teacher training institutions in Indonesia to design targeted leadership development initiatives, revise existing policies, and foster a sustainable culture of collective leadership.
